If that is indeed the case, piss poor recruiting job by Kelly and co.

Nah, I agree with what lucci said. I'm not sure what Kelly and co could have done that they didn't already, and as a result we led for awhile.
Maybe-- and this is crazy-- different kids just have different priorities, and ND will never be able to cater to the ones who just want to coast for four years and end up with a serviceable degree.
This, they've literally been recruiting that kid in some fashion, for what, 2-3 years, not sure what else needs to be done. We've got him on campus several times and clearly have went all in. And to this point, Wiltfong just posted that he thinks he likes the bigger schools and not everyone likes a smaller, "quiet" campus.
Not going 4-8 would've helped.
Sometimes ND is going to lose out on a player simply because they're not on the level of the schools they're recruiting against on the field.

I think Driskell kind of hinted that the staff really liked him early on at corner but he just kept growing and the staff never really turned up the heat again. Pretty much said ND would take him but they aren't going to lose sleep over it. I think he's gonna be a baller and would take him right now but I get it
Once he started visiting other schools other than Ohio State and ND this seemed like it was gonna happen
The following is from Jamie at ISD that he wrote in a freebie article. I'll take his scouting over pretty much anyone else's. They had a lot of great coverage of The Opening in free articles for anyone interested.
Here's a link to the article:

I think the talk of Houston Griffith as more of a safety than a corner needs to die down. Maybe there are a few more impressive athletes at the position here, but the drop off is not very big from them to him. And he makes up for any edge by being incredibly efficient with his feet.
Notre Dame losing recruiting battle to OSU or FSU is understandable, but there's no reason we should lose them to Nebraska. I honestly struggle to name a single quality in which they consistently outperform us.
The drastic and mercurial swings in leans is honestly a turn-off. A kid wildly changing his mind three times in the span of a month makes me question if he's even a fit for ND.
He's not a fit for ND. When the perceived leader for a recruit changes 4-5 times, I normally don't want to be a part of that game. ND has found themselves in these situations before and it never ends in their favor. I'd rather them turn their focus on a kid that actually wants to be at ND.
Also, I might be totally wrong but it seems to me that kids like this who keep changing their top school dont seem to pan out in college. I don't have any statistical proof, but that's just what it seems like to me.
As for Nebra$ka, this makes me further convinced they have a bag man. But do whatever you have to do to stay competitive with OSU and Michigan I guess
This screams Ole Miss to me. A school that only one time in the last six years has finished in the top 20 in recruiting, and that was 16th in 2011, is all of a sudden, looking for a top 5 class. And it just so happens its done by a shady DB and WR coach.......
To add on, Nebraska believes that he could be a silent commit, at the same time he was believed to be a silent to OSU. He told the Nebraska folks that one of their benefits is more people will see him on TV?
I doubt money has anything to do with Griffith & Nebraska. His Dad is a multi-millionaire, he doesn't need some gift that his dad could provide without breaking a sweat.
Is there cheating going on? Yep. Is there cheating going on at 95% of the schools? Yep. But what I think you are seeing at Nebraska is a program that has put together an aggressive recruiting plan, with the right kind of recruiters for today's recruiting game, that is augmented by I feel the best fanbase as far as social media. They are prolific, interactive and something Irish fans won't understand... positive.
Scott Booker. Nebraska Special Teams Coordinator.
The Houston Griffith sweepstakes continues. The recent CBs have been going to FSU.
WOW - Practically everyone now....93% FSU.
You really don't see this much, even with high profile recruits, this early in the process. I mean, he hasn't even taken OV's yet. I wonder how high the bidding goes when he's on campus at these schools.
