He defiantly had crap QBs. And whether his line was great is hard to say. It’s like calling all those Pats WRs great.
Says who, you? At the time, Peete, Kramer, and Mitchell all had serviceable to good seasons in there.
Who is calling all those pat WR's great? Moss, Welker, and Gronk were/are considered great WR's because...they were great. The other's? I think people might consider them great WR's...for the patriots. Those first 3 all had/have multiple Pro Bowl and All Pro seasons. It's not hard to say the Lions line was not crap when they had 2 of the best OL in football for the decade of the 90's. That isn't subjective. It would be similar to me opining,"Brady, Moss, and Welker being great is hard to say."
How many RB's can say they had a 4,000 yard passer, a WR who set the single season reception record, 2 other 1,000 yard WR's, a future Pro Bowl TE, and 2 Pro Bowl/All Pro OL, all on the same field with them? I'll wait for that answer.
And this was all also done in an era when 4,000 yard passers were almost unheard of, multiple 1,000 yard WR's on the same team were almost unheard of (the Lions had 3), QB's didn't regularly complete more than 61 or 62% of their passes, and rule changes were in effect to protect QB's, WR's, and Offenses in general.
