This came out of nowhere. All the ND analysts just followed him after his tweet, except one.

Kind of odd that they spent so much time on Birdsong without offering and turn around and offer Burton who lives just 15 miles away. Maybe book concerns were an issue that Burton overcame(?)

Great offer list considering his R&R.

Tested well at the Opening Regional.

5-11 172lbs

4.62 - 40

4.19 - Shuttle

35.0 - PB

35.6 - Vert

Total = 98.94

Former UNC commit, decommited a month ago.

Spitballing here, but he got his Wake Forest offer last August when Elko was still there. Perhaps there's a pre-existing relationship/ that sped up the offering process?

Thanks for adding that.

There's obviously a pre-existing relationship but it didn't speed up anything. Elko's been at this for 5 months now.

We went through all of Wake's offer/commits and he was definitely one we liked. the UNC commit made me write him off.

Hopefully he gets up to Invasion for a better look and if they want him as one of the 3 CB's, lock him up.

Really like the way ND seems to be hitting the Metro Atlanta area. So much talent here.

So there's a story on Scout by some new guy that says ND leads for Burton.

Notre Dame leads for Georgia cornerback - Notre Dame - Scout

I'm shocked that Johnson and one of the 3 star CB's like Burton, Plummer, Bracy or Mitchell haven't committed already. It's very possible only one of these 3 star guys gets in if DJ and Houston commit. The Irish can go big game hunting for #4. There will always be a .8850 3 star they can pick up late if they don't get a Christian Tutt for example.

Sorta, kinda thinking he might commit on his visit. He has moved that visit date up.

Whoa whoa. Taking corner commitments puts the plan of having an All Safety defense a la 2014 Stanford in jeopardy.

No prob at all... Go look at the depth chart and count how many current safeties are former CB's.

Our plan is still a go ZV.

Clearly I'm no defensive genius when it comes to safeties. I blame it on da Bears having shit safeties for my football watching existence. No italics necessary

Sucks to be young.

I grew up with:

Doug Plank
Gary Fencik
Todd Bell
Dave Duerson
Shaun Gayle
Mark Carrier

All those guys in 9 season. (82-90)

In fact, from 83-87 the Bears all 4 safeties would be Pro Bowlers in their careers. (Fencik, Bell, Duerson, Gayle)

You never saw Carrier, Marty Carter, Tony Parrish, Mike Brown or Chris Harris play??? There's 5 more Pro Bowlers at some point in their careers.

Dude, how young are you??? lol Sounds like all you've seen is Chris Conte and Brandin Hardin.

Crus, stop triggering me with names like Hardin and Conte

This is the defining safety moment of my time watching da Bears

Watched his film, and I'm usually hard on 3-star players with average/below average offers. I like his film and would be excited for his commitment. He breaks on the ball extremely well and has quickness.

I will say, I'm pretty skeptical of anyone who was once committed to UNC when they're not from NC. Like, he has to know all about their academic scandal, and jumped on board. Now he's a ND kid? Hmmm.

Watched more film. Nick Coleman 2.0. And Nick has the athletic ability to be a starting corner, so this comparison is a positive.

Oh... Steltz and Wright. Even though Wright had a good run for a couple of seasons he was a waste of a draft pick in the end.

He actually made a pretty spectacular play right there if Urlacher didn't also make a HOF play. That's a 6-4, 260 MLB covering Percy Fecking Harvin from the slot. Let that sink in. Played him perfect stride for stride. Read his face and turned, located the ball like a CB and would have had the interception had not Wright did his job. Urlacher was a fuuuuuuuuurreak.

That's why I take Urlacher over EVERY MLB in history. Cuz Ray Lewis makes that play maybe once in his career, Urlacher did it every Sunday.

NDCrusader this is the guy you love right?

I don't looooove him but he's a take for sure. I think his film is good, most importatnly it's against Gwinnett Co competition = Top 5 in the country and he has enough raw athleticism to not be worried about being over his head at big time P5 levels.

Besides his visit this weekend, will be OVing for the UGA game with his Dad... who played for the Bulldogs.

Here's his updated R&R's. ESPN came in strong moving him the unrated bin to a 4 star, 80 rating and the #36 CB overall.

Rankings 7-12-17:

247 Comp ...... :s::s::s: ...... #63 CB ..... #727 CB ...... .8544 rating
247 ................ :s::s::s: ...... #47 CB ..... #464 OA ...... 87
Scout ............. :s::s::s: ....... #76 CB
Rivals ............. :s::s::s: ....... #65 CB
ESPN .............. :s::s::s::s: ... #36 CB .......................... 80

Crusader, help me understand the different ranking systems. How is he a 3-star with an 87 rating with 247 but he is a 4-star at only an 80 with ESPN?

247 uses a common sense, 100 pt scoring system sorta like we grew up with in school. except the breaks aren't every 10.

2 star = Below 79
3 stars are 80-89
4 stars are 90-97
5 stars are 98-100+

ESPN ratings are vague. 3 stars are under 80, 4 stars start at 80 and 5 stars start at 90. Trey Smith was the #1 player in the country on ESPN last year and he was a 93. Weird system.

Rivals uses an even weirder system.

5 stars are 6.1
4 stars are 5.8 to 6.0
3 stars are 5.7 and lower

Scout doesn't rate numerically. They assign just stars and then a ranking.
