FWIW, this commitment would mean very little come Friday. If he commits to ND, he's still going to visit Duke and communicate with that staff. If he commits to Duke, he's still going to visit ND and communicate with our staff. There is zero reason to get overly excited or upset based on this "commitment". He's naming a leader and going to visit other schools as well.

Come on. Let's be positive. Maybe his surprise is that he is committing to ND, only OV to ND and will EE.

ISD guys still confident in ND here. I'll take that over what the other guys are saying.

Sad day to me when we lose good recruits to Duke

You can't read everything as a trend where individuals and relationships are involved. Duke is one of the best schools in the country. If one random kid decides he likes what they offer, it is what it is!

Come writers and critics
Who prophesies with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Yawn. ND's had bad losses to mediocre teams in every era. And almost every team has had streaks of success due to a good head coach or key player.

Duke has a good coaching staff right now, but currently lacks the resources and recruits to truly establish itself.

This is one ND has to get. Whether that's tomorrow or later on.

My theory is, if he's committing to 'hold a spot' while he does his homework and takes visits, it makes a hell of a lot more sense to hold your spot at ND rather than Duke.

Duke is Duke. They'd piss themselves if they got a .95 WR. No need to hold your spot there.

Average attendance at Duke's 6 home football games last year was 30,000. And I don't know if that is based on tickets sold or actual attendance. There really isn't a big time football atmosphere there on game day.

And one kid says nothing about that.

Hmmmm.... It's almost as if really, really smart kids aren't making decisions based primarily on the game day atmosphere.

Also: Any chance Kelly turns this kid down since he wants to take visits after committing?

I think there is a slim chance if they feel the commitment would be disruptive. But my impression, as others have stated, is that ND's approach is more along the lines of "you can verbally 'commit,' but we're not holding that spot and we're going to continue to recruit other WRs until you shut it down."

gotta start somewhere

That's true.

There was a famous death penalty case where some of the justices spoke about a clear emerging trend against the death penalty in States across the country.

The minority opinion noted that the "trend" only involved a few states, but because the death penalty had been legal in all 50 states shortly before, any movement at all, no matter how insignificant, was technically a trend against the death penalty.

Could be a pump fake to build suspense on a commitment that is thought to be a forgone conclusion. Regardless, it sounds like he's a soft verbal no matter who he commits to, and whatever team(s) doesn't get a verbal will have plenty of time to flip him.

If it was really going to be Duke, I'm not sure why he would be telling that to recruiting services and potentially spoiling the surprise.

I'm spinning here obviously, but what if the decision that surprised people was that he was shutting down his recruitment?

Possible he may just be trying to build some suspense since everyone has assumed ND. You just never know when it comes to young kids and recruiting.

Seems like he is trying to build hype for his decision (which isn't even a decision anyway, by his own account).

Diva-like behavior.

Pass.

Did you drop your [I ][/I ]
Kid is a stud, and if he builds suspense and brings more attention to Notre Dame recruiting and he holds his commitment, What is the harm?
