Why not take this kid early if he is ready to do the deal?

One less thing to worry about. Our current tight ends shouldn't look at a fifth year as a way to go. They should either prepare themselves for the draft or look at a transfer, because I don't think you can keep Brock or Cole off of the field. IF, and if, that assessment is correct, you are going to need to fill after them.

In other words, a younger tight end has more value that a fifth-year journeyman, with the talent just coming aboard.

I haven't seen any indication we wouldn't. I take the late offer from ND to be a tacit admission that they won't be able to pull one of the PSU commits. I think of the remaining TEs on the board, George is easily the best fit.

I think you're right. I think the staff was waiting to see if Kyle Pitts was going to jump on at PSU and cause a problem with Freiermuth who they offered WAY late. He was another ND pre-lean that fell out of love. Kuntz was never coming to SB, all his brother's played there and his P's are alums if i remember correctly. Anyways, Pitts CB's have swung around to VT now so looks like PSU will get their 2 QB haul. I'm sure the Opening invite didn't hurt either.

Why wait? Good question. It your "dream school" just offered you and they have a visit lined up with some folks #1 TE in a few weeks... it's probably a good time to pull the trigger. This is the same scenario that happened last year when Phil committed. Artur Sitkowski was announcing a Midwest swing of schools and Artur never got to visit because Phil committed. At the time, I didn't thin that much of it but that was a good move if rumors of Sitkowski's fondness of ND were true.

Starting to work his way up the R&R's: Scout gave him a 4th star today.

I think he'll end up Top 10 easy, probably Comp #7 or #8 and I wouldn't trade him for anyone in the class for what ND needs this cycle.
