Hopefully as an SC fan we close him this weekend. He is on an official visit to SC with Amon Ra JT Daniels and Palaie Gaoteote this weekend. So I’m praying they close the deal on this one. Clay Helton still has his in home if I’m not mistaken as well. On a side not Amon Ra and Julius Irvin are friends from when they went to Servite together. He will be on another unofficial visit this weekend too. His family will be on campus talking to coaches and I guess he is there hanging out with Amon Ra. So yeah hoping we can just lock them down. Palaie Gaoteote Canceled his official visit to SC a few weeks ago to visit the same weekend as Solo. They hung out together at the army bowl quite a bit and Solo sai he was recruiting him the hardest of any players.

Didn't know any of that.

Well that's disgusting then.

how will you use him, who's coming back, who leaves, what are the chances he starts as a freshman.

Lets say this is accurate (which I agree, it is), what does USC offer in regard to those same questions?

Kind of depends.

Cam Smith and John Houston are starters next year. So solo competes with Levi Jones (#93 overall in 17') and the others in this incoming class for 2 deep snaps.

For the following year, Cam Smith will be gone and Houston could be too, if he has a big year. He'll have a 5th year option at that point. So as a sophomore Solo would be competing against Levi Jones, Jordan Iosefa (currently behind Smith at ILB but lowly ranked) and this years classmates. PG and Raymond Scott, both top 150 LB's for PT.

Certainly a more difficult path to PT, though not impossible. Probably very little PT, as a freshman. Will have a chance to compete with 3 other top 150's in 19' (sophomore) for 1 or 2 spots. If it's only one spot, then he might not be starting until he's a Junior. Difference is, I think we can all but assure him he's a starter by his sophomore year, provided he does his thing.

With all this said, I have no idea how good Levi Jones or Jordan Iosefa have looked so far, the chances of John Houston staying for a 5th year, and how good Raymond Scott is. Those will all factor in to playing time his sophomore year.

Great answer... Thank you!

So if he's looking for a larger path to PT, that column goes to the Irish yes? It'll be equally hard to get PT as a freshman at either school but our 2 projected starting linebackers will be gone after this coming season, so we'll have 2 spots open at minimum.

He's competing with less competition since it's been suggested the defensive staff wasn't as high on some "prior signees".

I'm not actually getting my hopes up but it would be so nice to add another wrecker to this defense.

This was from one of the Polynesian Bowl practices. Solo doesn't say much, but it gives you a better understanding of how much pressure he is getting from his fellow Polynesian brothers to go to USC. Maybe he will be able to forge his own path or maybe he wants to be part of the brotherhood.

Not necessarily. So as a freshman, at USC, he'll be behind Cam Smith and John Houston, this is similar to Tranquill and Coney. However, he'll have a top 100 Levi Jones ,1 year ahead of him, and he'll be coming in with a top 10 P. Gaetote, and a top 150 ILB Raymond Scott. So he'd have to battle Levi Jones and PG for snaps as a freshman, based solely on age and rankings, playing time would look to go to PG and Jones.

I'd say that would probably be more difficult than competing with the two Jones's. At this point White and Adams aren't a part of this planning, just like a couple of USC's LB's are not.

Before Juju Smith syndrome some of you may remember Byron Moore. Moore was the original Juju Smith syndrome. I honestly was floored on signing day when he signed with SC...sigh

That is cold.
No one remember Byron Moore?

Reminds me of an Xfile episode I saw the other night.

Didn't see this article from 1/11/18 posted anywhere. It's a Barton Simmons article right after Lea was promoted.
https://247sports.com/Article/College-football-recruiting-2018-Final-thoughts-from-the-US-Army-All-American-Bowl-113558333

Lea shouldn’t hurt on the recruiting trail, either. One of Notre Dame’s top remaining targets is four-star linebacker Solomon Tuliaupupu out of California. Lea has been the primary recruiter for Tuliaupupu and I asked him on Saturday what his promotion would mean for his decision. His face lit up and he said that “it would actually help Notre Dame."

Are we planning an in-home visit with him this week? I know that BK will be in the area to see Patterson, so I was wondering if he was planning on visiting Pupu too?

I still think he does have his in-home. Lea and Polian were the only two that visited him last week Tuesday.

I think NDMIA was saying BK went in-home on 11/28 though....Unless they get another in the new year or something?

Oops nevermind... 11/28 BK, Polian, and Lea went in home

Anaheim (Calif.) Mater Dei four-star linebacker Solomon Tuliaupupu, arguably the top linebacker in the country, is another top target for the Fighting Irish. Per his father, Turnbull Tuliaupupu, Kelly and Polian will be by for an in-home visit on Tuesday.

Recruiting 101 - HC's only get 1 in-home visit during the entire process?

You can have an ND staff member in his home once a calendar week according to recruiting rules. So...

2017-2018
11/26-12/2 Brian Kelly & Brian Polian 11/28
12/3-12/9
12/10-12/16 Brian Polian & Clark Lea 12/13
1/12-1/13
1/14-1/20
1/21-1/27 Brian Polian & Clark Lea 1/23
1/28-2/3

This is only what i could confirm via 247 (no subscription) & Twitter

- Allowed 6 visits per student athlete w/ 1 visit per calendar week from 11/26-2/3
