Sounds like there is a lot of catching up to do.

Everyone is after Cy-Fair OT Austin Deculus - Today's U

“I have offers right now from Arkansas, LSU, Illinois, Tulsa, USC, Baylor, Boston College, Missouri, Texas A&M, Georgia, Duke, Tennessee, Alabama, Kansas, Northwestern, Michigan, Miami, Texas Tech, Ole Miss and Oklahoma,” Deculus said. “Another one is Notre Dame and UCLA was the most recent.”[

Despite having offers from practically every major school in the nation, Deculus has already named a favorite, but still wants to explore all of his options before he makes a commitment.

“For choosing a school, it will have to really hit me,” Deculus said. “I’ll have to feel at home and feel comfortable. The thing that’s going to draw me the most it has to feel like home. That’s honestly why LSU is number one right now. For me, it’s in my bloodline at I have a lot of family connections with LSU.”

So why hasn’t he already pulled the trigger to become the second member of the Tigers 2017 class?

“It would have to be me wanting to take my visits and just knowing for sure,” Deculus told Today’s U. “Also just making sure that Les Miles is going to stay there for good.”

Although the Bayou Bengals are the frontrunners right now, Deculus is also looking hard at Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Michigan, TCU, and Baylor, he said.

“TCU and Baylor would be the only schools I would go to if I stay in Texas,” Deculus said. “I want to go to a place where the conference is something to compete with like the SEC. I feel like the best offensive linemen, and just linemen on both sides in the trenches, the best people come out of the SEC because they always know how to play aggressive. They are a right-down-your-throat offense. I love run blocking and just being able to manhandle somebody.”

Deculus said he is “for sure” going to upcoming junior days at Baylor, Oklahoma and LSU and also has a solid amount of interest in a national power from the Big Ten.

Big Ten is my second choice, SEC is my first,” Deculus said. “There’s a big chance if Ohio State offers I would take a visit there. I would look into it. I’m considering all schools right now.”

That article was depressing lol. You'd think Brock would talk to him about ND and even peak his interest to where he would have mentioned it in the article - not saying he hasn't though.

Who knows. Still way to early to get really deep in this.

Considering we have done well recently putting lineman in the league, we should have a chance, I would think. Still early but you never know. I took away that he looks at where he can come out of on top (SEC) and I think we can rival that. Maybe someone has numbers of our lineman in the league under BK vs the other guys?

Only Olineman in the league right now are:

Braxston Cave
Ryan Harris
Zach Martin
Kona Schwenke
JJ Jansen (LS)
Trevor Robinson
John Sullivan
Chris Watt
Sam Young

I don't think BK brought any of those guys to ND but he worked with Watt-Martin-Schwenke(D)-Cave

His first true Olineman that he recruited I think will be Stanley.

A) Harry has put a ton in the league. And coached some good ones once they were in the league. So what he has done in three years at ND is a fraction of the story.

In fact, if he in three years, or ND under Kelly in the last half dozen had put many in the league, it may not be a good thing. Isn't conventional wisdom that great offensive linemen are grown? Or at least developed?

No greater example than ZMartin staying all five years, outperforming every other tackle taken in that draft, almost making rookie of the year, and attributing it to Harry.

B) About leaving the south : That is what the next thirteen months are for, aren't they?

Particularly with Harry and ND. Both cases emphasize building a strong interpersonal relationship as a key component of a successful goal for player, coach, and team, at the end of the process.

The best examples I can think of are Hayes (16 EE), Tillery(15), Vanderdoes (??); these are three kids whose commitments were all over the place. There was a point in time where each was a sure thing, and where each was never coming to ND. In other words, rollercoaster recruitments extraordinaire! And what a difference in finished results! We will see.

Reminds me of a guy we used to work with. Always was a wet blanket when it came to grabbing anything but American fast food, or pasteurized processed chain food.

One day we hijacked Dennis, Lanny was at the wheel, another guy at shotgun, and I was in the back keeping Dennis covered. Lanny said, what about stopping at that Thai place. He declined. Lanny rattled off, "Mexican? Cajun? Szechuan?" Dennis replied, "No, way!" I asked, "Why?" Dennis returned, "Because the last time I tried any of that it burned the hair off my balls!" With impeccable timing Lanny addressed him, "Then, Dennis, you are eating it wrong."

I think some people eat up information on recruiting wrong. I know there are people here who get hemorrhoids over this stuff.

You're eating it wrong!

Sit back, enjoy it, and laugh at the fact that 97.25% of everything that makes it to press is bullshit. Oh, and flush the handle every so often!

Does it matter who recruited them when the topic is getting them to NFL?

I believe they played more years under Kelly than Weis.

Does weis get credit for manti, Martin, Harrison, blanton, etc turning into pros because he was their recruiter or does Kelly for coaching them?

I vote the latter.

Braxston Cave - undrafted 2013. Picked up by Lions after moving/being cut often. Kelly
Ryan Harris - 2007 - pre Kelly
Zach Martin - 1st Round with Kelly
Kona Schwenke - played defense under Kelly
JJ Jansen (LS) - 2008 undrafted - pre Kelly
Trevor Robinson - 2012 undrafted
John Sullivan - 2008 6th round - pre Kelly
Chris Watt - 3rd Round - with Kelly
Sam Young - 6th Round - pre Kelly

So currently there are 9 Olineman on active rosters in the NFL. Of those nine, 1 played defense under Kelly and 4 were prior to Kelly showing up to ND.

So under Kelly's regime, 6 seasons, he has 4 Olineman in the league and 2 of them went undrafted and Martin (1st) and Watt (3rd) being the ones drafted.

Not very stellar to me.

Kids want to be drafted in the high rounds, they don't want to go undrafted obviously. If the players go undrafted, IMO, I wouldn't count that to Kelly's credit once they make a team because after that the players could be on practice squads or working outside of the university with other professionals to get them on a team.

Now I know Heistand has the reigns and they are bringing in much better talent and developing them much much better than in the past but when you are looking at who is currently in the NFL - it's not impressive.

I think Harry coaches individual talent really well. I just wish it looked like the unit played together better. So many times we have everything blocked well, but one guy wiffs and we get smacked at the LOS. I know that's football, but it seems to me it happens more often to our running game than other good teams'.

We're so close so many times, but you can't be saying that every other time.

If you're going to count this season, you should probably count the guys who will be leaving this year. 6 drafted in 6 years ain't bad.

Most of the O-Line redshirts and ends up staying for five years. Kelly has been at ND since 2011. So we have the 2011 season (Weis recruits), 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. Kelly's recruits are just beginning to mature. So the bottom line is the jury's still out on how well Kelly's recruits are prepared for the NFL. Most objective observers would say that Hiestand has recruited far better than Warriner. The next few years will tell regarding how well Hiestand's recruits are prepared for the demands of the NFL.

Are you saying Stanley and Martin for this year? If so, then that's 4 DRAFTED in 6 seasons.
