LOL. The staff couldn't pick up the phone once a week to keep this kid in the loop. What a idiotic miss this was. BVG was one of the worst hires and fits I can think of. How do you want a guy and pay a guy that much who says I don't want to recruit. Mind blowing...

BVG was certainly terrible but I doubt Kelly went into that endeavor knowing how little effort BVG would put into recruiting. In fact, in the beginning, most people loved the hire.

Another one the wrongest I've ever been was looking at the start to 2014 and being like "awwww yeahhhhh.... attacking defense this is gonna be awesome..."

Dude refused to recruit, was a horrible coach, and wasted Jaylon Smith. The vast majority of the backslide at Notre Dame after the 2012 run to the title game has to do with bad defensive recruiting in Diaco's last years and Van Gorder's entire tenure.

Yea, looking back, the BVG hire is probably the single biggest factor in the lack of progress post 2012. He was/is a stain for the program.

Haha, should’ve specified, while at ND. Also, I don’t remember much of the 80’s/90’s coaching staffs so I’m working with a smaller group.

Willingham was up there but something about BVG’s incredible arrogance to be so bad at his job but not get it, was remarkable.

2017 was a year of misses.

All of those decommits (six). Werner, Adebo (Tree) and Hicks (Cal) are all starters (but none would've started this year at ND). Pouncey will never play at Texas, Beal isn't starting and has guys his age ahead of him. Jeter at MI? Who cares... bullet dodged

Others recruited off the top of my head included AJ Dillon (star), Russ Yeast (starter). Bubba Bolden (starter), Grant Calcaterra (starter). All of those recruitments were botched.

But my favorite is Skinny Scotty Nelson. Everybody made fun of how skinny he was, someone said he was built like a kicker. He's the starting FS at Wiscy and oddly enough, ND doesn't have a safety on the roster from the '17 class. JOK, JGH and Robertson all got moved.

This is gonna seem random but Pete Werner sucks. Looking at the OSU depth chart for the PSU game and he is still ahead of Dante Booker. No way is he better than Booker.

Definitely random and I can't say much on how he looks as I haven't watched him play at all this season. But he certainly hasn't been very productive. Not sure if that's due to minutes played or he's just not making an impact when he does.

Maybe at Buck. But I think ND has some prospects for that spot with higher upside than Werner.

I think White is better. If he was a bit faster he would be really good.

Never got a 3rd LB but turned JGH into one.

I don't know about that. If Lea likes anything, he likes fast LB prospects. Werner had good speed, especially for his size which was like Shayne Simon.
