Good news. If you start slow...you will end slow when you put on the weight. He's starting fast!

Irish Getting One of the Best in FLA in White | Irish Sports Daily

Jamie Uyeyama reviewed Drew's senior tape. The kid is way faster than I was expecting; I really hope that he can keep the speed when he puts on the muscle he needs to grow.

That article pointed something out completely foolish and silly: that the guy got a 2 star because he didnt do camps???? Help me understand this....so a guy doesnt do camps that are 100% based towards selling recruiting services and instead of evaluating the guys talent in person, they dump him to MAC level talent? Way to go guys!

Yeah, seems pretty messed up. But, camps = coverage = reporting = money, and they ain't in business for their health.

I've mentioned it before on here, I grew up and played with his HS coach. He says this kid is going to be the real deal.

Based on his highlights, I'd agree that he's our most underrated player. If you showed me the same highlights and told me he was a high 4-star on his way to UF, I'd have no problem believing it.

My question is if he's a real deal player why does he have so few quality regional offers and such a low rating? Because the problem isn't exposure. I have a hard time believing we just "know better" than everyone else on a kid that should be on everyone's recruiting radar. Does anyone know what "professionals" don't like? Size? Speed?

I think it has to be size. Not sure how tall he is but he looks like he could be 5'10ish?

In the interview with BGI, that I linked before, Coach Lea said they like to recruit LB's at 6'1+, as a general rule of thumb. A lot of coaches feel that way. He even elaborated to say, he can teach movement skills, through repetition, but they can't teach size and length.

Definitely not the end all be all, but my assumption is that is where a lot of evals started and ultimately ended.

Just ran into his grandfather in the airport security line. Very nice guy. Wishing Drew the best in his recovery and his ensuing career!

This has to be one of the biggest surprises in the past 5 years for me.

Of all the people I could think of who would replace Drue after he went done, the last person I thought of was Drew White. And he played quite well.

Never in a million years saw that coming.

Returned from injury. Impressed on scout team. Moved up to ST and impressed there as well I guess. Did a solid job in his first ever meaningful snaps in a game and is ascending in the coaches eyes. Not sure if this continues much or how far it goes, but it’s great to see. Interested to see how this plays out. Either way, good for Drew, and good for ND!

Adwequate for a fist game but not a playmaker. Jones, a Simon or Bauer seem to have more upside.

Disagree. He was all over the place on Saturday. BK said as much as well. He’s getting his shot in practice this week to try and prove he can do it against non triple option offense. We’ll see what happens.

I think he was like 4th in tackles (6 total/1 solo). I wouldn't get too hyped though as it was against a single threaded Navy team. It is good that he was able to be effective vs the option and be disciplined.

Another reason to temper things... Bauer for instance had a better performance (6/5) in less minutes vs WF, and Simon had almost as much (3/1+1TFL) in a lot fewer minutes.

Regardless, it's great to see him do well. I can't helped be a little confused/concerned about the guys that were supposed to be ahead of him on the depth chart (JGH, , Simon, Morgan). Simon I believe is splitting back up at both Buck and Rover so not really concerned there..., but JGH was squarely 2 after Drue on every depth chart I've seen.

Maybe it's not that they've haven't improved as expected. It could be White has just come out of nowhere? Maybe it has something to do with the new redshirt rule and saving games?

Did anyone else think he looked short as hell next to Coney? Coney is only 6ft right? I worry about Drew's length in coverage.

Not sure what to think. JGH, Simon, and Bauer have all played in 7+ games this year. White only 3. White used his RS last year. Simon and Bauer are true freshmen. JGH is a true soph. So not about saving games unless I'm missing something (none are in a position to need/want to save games this year). My initial thought during the game, was that he was just simply better vs the run (playing Navy). But maybe he is just taking off the suit and glasses and is becoming superman.

I can't remember who said it, but apparently Drew has had much more experience vs triple option teams than the others. Might as well let him use his experience to help out. I'd still be surprised if he holds off JGH and Simon

I'm not syaing he's the next great linebacker and if I had to guess or bet I'd say he won't see meaningful snaps the rest of the year. Apparently Bauer suffered some kind of chest injury on a hit, at some point in the last week and it scared the shit out of BK. Prister and O'Malley reported that in their instant analysis video from yesterday.

Well if it's not for saving games, I can only think that maybe he did put on that cape. If was strictly for the option I wouldn't expect him to be listed again. I have no clue.

This weekend against NW will be a big tell. Highly doubt Tranquill starts, so who does Lea go with?

I'd be surprised if it were anyone but White, but I'm hopeful it will be Jonathan Jones or one of the 3-name players that back up buck. I think they have the opportunity to be actual play makers.

not saying it can't change, but here's what ND released for NW (link). Also a blurb specific to D..

https://www.onefootdown.com/2018/10...-chart-drue-tranquill-buck-nickel-julian-love

The defensive depth chart also stays intact. The big question is if Drue Tranquill will be able to play this week after suffering a game-ending ankle injury against Navy. Drew White came in for Tranquill in that game instead of Jordan Genmark Heath or Shayne Simon. The reasoning for White was that he was more of an option specialist. Against a pass-happy team like Northwestern, we will probably see less of the BUCK anyways and more NICKEL. How Notre Dame intends on putting that out there is still a bit of a question mark with Houston Griffith, Nick Coleman, or Julian Love with an insertion of Tariq Bracy at corner.

My biggest take from that, why is Dexter not starting?

The RB depth chart has 3 "or"s.... basically 4 RBs starting, or RB by committee. It looks a little misleading as the order is Jones, Dex, Davis, Armstrong.... IMO, touches will rank Dex, Armstrong, Jones, and Davis.

I also read that Bilal is taking reps in that spot this week, so he could move inside temporarily. It's more about passing game responsibilities with RB's getting covered. Tells me the staffs scouting believes this is critical to NU's passing success.

Personally I think Bilal should be the Buck and Simon should be Rover. The other option would be to move Coney to Buck, keep Bilal at Rover, and put Bauer as the Mike.
