Is expecting a visit from Coach Denbrock during the evaluation period.

Teammate of UCLA commit and Irish offer Hunter Echols. Also of note, his QB is Andrew Tovar who is a prime PWO candidate for ND. He has thrown for 90+ TD's during his So. & Jr seasons.

Had 5 PR for TD's and over 500 yds on PR's. He lists that as #3 in the country. Should put up huge numbers this season with the graduation of Renard Bell to Wash St.

Ratings wise, very similar to recent Irish offer, Kolby Taylor from Chandler, AZ but Calvin's offer list is much more extensive and the best I've seen for someone of his rating. Just picked up a Sparty offer yesterday.

Mentions ND in most interviews and retweets a lot on ND stuff, more than other programs.

Has been named to top performers lists for recent 7v7 and combine events by the various recruiting sites.

Very interesting prospect.

Plan B if Michael Young doesn't commit?

He's well thought of out here in Cali. Offer list outperforms his rankings. Biggins and Huffman can't go a week without interviewing him. Unofficialled to Georgia Tech last year with his QB who I still hear is a possible PWO in '17.

I wish they would have invited him to II with his teammate DE Hunter Echols to put some pressure on Young.

Lastly... he's a definitely a dreaded RKG. Got prerequisite Stanford offer this month to add to Northwestern.

Interesting to me, because his offer list somewhat void of big name programs. Maybe his slight frame is the reason?

I really don't think its an indication of the staff not being confident in Young or any WR for that matter. I just think there are good football players out there that deserve offers. Do I think that if Young committed they might not have sent out these offers, potentially. However, that's different than not being confident. They just want playmakers and if guys aren't committing, then they should be recruiting whoever they think can ball.

And for those that haven't this kids tape, its fun to watch. Definitely a play maker. From the sounds of it, he tore up the Rivals 5 star Challenge. Can't say I've seen the footage, so just taking Rivals word for it.

was 3 receivers today. I can understand the timing with Hippenhammer considering he just was on campus but the other two?

Have to be somewhat related to WR recruiting as a whole.

That can be taken many different ways but if you mean as a negative, I don't agree.

Do I think they get offered if Young commits, probably not. However, that doesn't mean they don't feel good about Young. They probably wanted him to get first shot at committing, he didn't, so they found other players that they like as well. And in Calvin's case, specifically, its a 1a 1b situation. He's really good himself.

Also, they've been talking to Calvin for awhile now and he and Denbrock have become quite close. After Denbrock visited him in the Spring, they were talking almost everyday, his words to Rivals. So, this isn't an out of the blue offer that we are throwing at the wall to see if it sticks.

I think its quite the opposite, these are calculated moves.

I agree with all this but wish they would have calculated the positives that could have happened had he been invited to II

I think they should've brought him in with his teammate Hunter Echols. Jamire has always had nice things to say to Biggins about ND. Not one interview goes by it seems without an ND mention/update. Jamire could have been a positive influence on Hunter during the trip with his enthusiasm. Jamire's a dreaded RKG. Smooth in front of the mic too which I'm a sucker for because it such a positive indicator.

Plus, his presence might have lit a fire under Young's butt. Really want Young. He's like Q Nelson playing slot in CJS's body.

247: Cali. WR in-depth on top eight

Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral three-star wide receiver Jamire Calvin is one of the most talented wide receivers on the West Coast.

An electric playmaker, the 5-9, 175-pounder racked up 41 catches for 684 yards and 12 touchdowns during his junior season. He added an additional 522 yards and two scores on punt returns.

So, where will this class of 2017 standout end up?

According to the 247Sports Crystal Ball, Nebraska is the favorite at this point. Eight-of-nine predictions have him ending up in Lincoln, while the other pick is for USC. However, the Trojans aren’t in the hunt for his services.

That said, there are eight schools that are very much in play. Monday night, Calvin released his top eight and spoke to 247Sports to break down his interest in each program.

Notre Dame: “I love the tradition and passion they play with. They're also a winning program and they know how to get their guys the ball. I felt I can come in and take the place of Will Fuller and make a huge impact. Hunter Echols [Calvin’s four-star defensive end teammate, who just recently visited South Bend] said that he loved it. Me and him will take an official visit there together.”

Alabama: “It’s just a winning program. I love how they want to use me. Who wouldn't want to compete for a national title every year?”

Arizona State: “It’s just a great fit all around. I have some friends that go there. I just love their offense and how they spread the ball around over there.”

Cal: “It’s a great offense and a great fit. Great coaches too. I love their staff and I love visiting up there. It’s great out there. They put four receivers in the NFL this past year.”

Nebraska: “There is just a great opportunity there. Coach Riley is such a great guy and a great coach. I love him. Same thing with coach Williams, who's the best receiver coach in college football. I know he can develop me and help me get to the next level. Nebraska's fan base makes it 10-times better. I love their fans and the family feeling they give off. They're great people.”

Oregon State: “The coaches played a big part and there's just a great chance to turn the program around. [Calvin’s three-star wide receiver teammate] Arex Flemings, who's like a brother to me, committed there and it would be the best thing ever to be able to play with him in college. Their receiver coach has three Biletnikoff award winners, so there is just a great opportunity there.”

UCLA: “I love coach Yarber and the school. Jordan Payton went for over 1000 yards and got drafted. They're kind of light at the receiver position, so I can come in and be the difference-maker. I'm also from Pasadena, so being able to play in the Rose Bowl in my home town would be epic.”

Washington State: “Air-raid offense. They know how to put the ball in the playmakers hands. They're on the rise coming off a 9-4 season and beating Miami. They have a great staff and just a great offense that I can fit into perfectly. I could just excel and be the difference-maker to take them to a Rose Bowl.”

Per 247Sports, Calvin is the No. 359 overall player in the nation, No. 44 wide receiver in the country and No. 36 prospect in California from the class of 2017.

Scout: Jamire Calvin Cut His List to Eight Schools, Plans to Visit Alabama, Arizona State, Nebraska and Notre Dame

Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral wide out Jamire Calvin recently cut his list to eight and has a few visits in mind.

Jamire Calvin cut his sizable list of schools down to eight on Monday and while that still seems like a large group, the receiver said he has sincere interest in each program.

Making the cut for Calvin were the Alabama Crimson Tide, Arizona State Sun Devils, California Golden Bears, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oregon State Beavers, UCLA Bruins and Washington State Cougars.

"I feel like I can be happy at any of those eight schools, I have sincere interest in all of them," Calvin said. UCLA is the only one that hasn't offered yet but I think they'll offer at some point. They're only taking one receiver in my class so I'm being patient.

"I'm planning to visit Bama on July 17th for for their team camp. I think Thomas Graham and Bookie Radley-Hiles are going with me too and there's a chance I could go back for an official visit there as well."

Speaking of official visits, Calvin already has one locked in with Nebraska for (Sept. 17) and has a good idea on a few others.

"I'm for sure going to take an official to Notre Dame," Calvin said. "Hunter Echols should be going with me on that one and I think Terrell Bynum too. The whole Cali crew will visit Nebraska together on the 17th and I'm planning to take one to ASU as well. ASU is involved with a lot of out of state guys like Eno Benjamin, Jeffrey Okudah and Tre Brown so that should be fun.

"I'm not sure about the others right now, I'm still keeping my options open. Like I said, these are all great options and I'm not just looking for the biggest school or the biggest name but the best overall fit for me. This is a very big decision for me and I'm trying to find the best spot I can."

I hate the non-committable offer. Sounds like a Seinfeld topic. It's either an oooooffer or it's NOT an ooooooofer. I wish someone with a non-committable offer would go on Twitter and say, "I committing to _______" just to see how the back pedal is handled.

Anyways,

Jamire paid his own way across country last year for a game. I read Cathedral's QB Anthony Tovar who's in the pic with Jamire is most likely going to be at ND next year as a PWO. i think I mentioned it before, 90 TD's in his Soph & Jr seasons already.

I have mixed feelings about this kid. He's a really good player and could be a great punt returner for us but our numbers are getting tight. If taking him allows us to get Echols, I say we take him. But we don't not take OSB and Tarik Black because of Calvin...I dunno. I'm not sure that taking OSB, Black, Young AND Calvin is the right move. That'd be too many WR's in my opinion. I'd rather use that spot for a stud DE but I'm not an expert and this is just my opinion.

IMO, we never hit 85, we need slot WRs, and BK like versatile kids.

If they think he is good enough to play, I'm fine with this.

We'd all like to see a stud DE commit to ND, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of stud Defensive Ends knocking down ND's door to get in. Like others have repeatedly said, we never seem to make it to 85. If Jamire can play and wants to come to ND, give him one of those scholarships.

Not that he was a 5 :s: "stud", but whatever happened with Whittaker? It seemed like Ewell's commitment pushed him away, but I thought Whittaker projected at DE.

This is solid but I will say that I definitely consider Paschal as an elite defensive end and I hope we get him. In a perfect work we get two of these three - Echols, Paschal, Kaindoh.

Too many SDEs for Whittaker to be a take, is what I thought.

A stud DE will be a take even if we are at 85 or 125 on the roster. That won't be a problem.

Having too many WR's on the roster is a problem IMHO. However, if this kid is a package deal with a stud DE, or even will help us big time with a stud DE, then I'd take him in a heartbeat. We need pass rushers, and the roster always works itself out.

Even though none are proven receivers yet, certainly a possible logjam developing at WR. Hypothetical entering the 2017 season:

3-4 years of eligibility: Pouncey, Black, St. Brown, Young, Claypool, McKinley, Stepherson, Boykin.

Heck that's a two deep of just underclassmen.

Heck it's not like they have too many pure wide receivers in the 17 class committed. Robertson and Pouncey both could play in the secondary. Heck some think that Robertson could grow into a Sam Linebacker. That leaves only Young, whom some think could play outside in addition to inside.
