I like the move with us being pretty deep at safety going forward I think this is almost a move looking ahead for next year where LB is going to take a hit

They'll be fine. Jones, Bilal, Morgan, JOK, Simon and the rest of the Soph's. If they get anything out of Adams/White (if they're still around)... bonus.

Jamie U on ISD reckons Jordan should be trained up to play Middle Line Backer if Coney serves a suspension. Interesting idea.

Could've sworn that was Matt and that both Mike and Jamie shut down the idea. The kid is strong yeah, but moving from safety to Mike in a few months is a huge transition.

Must not like his place on the depth chart much. Classy statement and wish him well

I wish him well. If he was 3rd on the Buck chart, can't blame him. It's a perfect time for an athlete to transfer. Covid exemption, he's going to graduate, etc.. We have a ton of LBs, so really shouldn't hurt anything and opens up a scholarship.

Damn, this one kinda hurts, no? Wasn't he a contender to start? Sucks to lose that kind of depth even if not.

I've read several mentions of him this year, and strangely they were night and day. Some suggested he would compete for starter, others that he was getting passed. The article linked below says he falling behind, and really flattened after 2018. So depending on who you believe, it either doesn't hurt at all, or hurts a little.

Maybe one of the insiders around here can shed light.

Hopefully it is good news about Simon and Lamb.
Anyway hope he gets immediate eligibility to play in this strange season and has a few years left.

Wish him the best and he seemed like a great program guy but with both Liufau and Simon as co-starters and Kiser/Lamb as other options in the future we’re stocked at Buck.

Unless you're talking about for a walk-on this year, then I don't think he does. If he stayed for next year, that new NCAA exemption makes it look like he wouldn't count towards the 85 man limit. So we lose another guy without the ability to replace him one-for-one scholarship-wise.

The thing people need to understand about Marist is that he is incredibly explosive and flies all over the field. His only drawback is that he's still a little light, but he has a big frame that everyone thinks he'll continue filling out and be an NFL player.

Then you have Shayne Simon, who was a top recruit, and the main reason he hasn't seen the field more is that JOK is a beast and Simon has been snakebit with some injuries. Simon is a little bit bigger than Marist, and plenty fast to play, but not quite as explosive as Marist who moves like a safety.

Both were simply overall better players than Lamb/JGH and that's not really a knock on them. LB is by far the deepest position on the team, OL is the only other one that is even comparable at the moment.

So something I just thought of which is only possible for this weird year. I said earlier the JGH doesn't really need to sit out because this is a free year, but when he announced he is graduating in November that actually opened the door for him to still play this year, just for a different team. With the other conferences looking to play later this year, JGH could technically grad transfer in November, play for one of the teams playing in the spring, still keep another year of eligibility and then play for that team again in the fall. So he could potentially get two seasons in one grad transfer year.

IIRC - Opt outs get a year automatically, so he should have 2 years left regardless.

If Lamb can stay healthy I think he will be a star. I wonder if Marist can move to rover. Simon, Lamb and Marist would be great.

folks on II podcast said the same thing yesterday, makes zero sense for him to transfer at this point unless he's totally pissed with the coaches and the relationship is not fixable

He's giving them the Michael Young treatment.

He's almost certainly frustrated, as he had a great offseason and may have thought he deserved to be starting. Then, especially if he's trying to play in the spring, why risk injury?

Last semester at ND.

Likely doesn't want to risk injury. Also may want a "normal" life for a bit (no pseudo-bubble)

Yep - this is correct. All players get an extra year of eligibility and an extra year to use it. So he basically is getting three seasons to play two, choosing to have two at the new school makes sense.. more of an opportunity to make an impact and grow in a different system.

That UCLA roster has some lowkey decent talent on it. I forgot Charbonnet transferred out there from scUM. Eboh, Cota, DTR, Rhyan are names I recall well from their respective cycles.

Ale Kaho from Bama too, former 5 star
