I don't really understand this one either but they've had awhile to deliberate on this and felt like it was the right decision. I guess we'll see.
With ND getting Speights, I wonder if ND will get a RB for the 2021 class?
There's not a stat, pundit, or otherwise out there that suggests this is a net positive. Add in the fact that he's injury prone. Yikes.I am not sure if averages are a solid way to measure a guy like Speights though. You have to take into account how he was used (or not because he was injured).
I don't think we would be adding him just to add him. Have to think he brings something to the room, and that he can contribute.

Probably the only reason he's here now. But why? People are talking about a senior voice. Cat get Armstrong's tongue? I dunno, I just feel like we have so many questions in the RB room and taking away their snaps is not the best way to answer them. Bottom line - this boils down to ND's ineffective recruiting at the position during the Denson years coupled by incredibly the nearsighted Shipley recruiting philosophy.I wonder if it's just because Taylor recruited him to Stanford, and it was just an easy body to pick up for him due to the pre-existing relationship.

Kyren, right? Depending on where Jafar is at I see a lot of action for Smith and CBo this year (also depending on traits and want to, etc). That’s just my best guessI also think RB might be one of the groups they think will see a transfer. If we're truly 5ish over the 85, I have to assume they knew where the attrition was going to come from.
Better not be, as he could easily be the best RB on the team...

I feel like your link pointed towards Kyren being the most likely RB to leave. I guess I also take into account his mysterious disappearance that occurred after Louisville snap 3 or so as a possibility for him being the one to leave. I was at that game telling my buddy how much everyone talked him up during the preseason and he asked me after the game if he even played.I really wouldn't pick Kyren as the one leaving (he's only a soph), but who knows.
I see Smith and CBo as probably getting the most true RB touches. As far as Jafar is concerned, I wouldn't doubt if he was more of a satellite guy. Could be totally wrong about all of it.
I just hope we get to see Tyree. Even if it's only as a satellite kind of guy.
Here's a decent write up on RBs from earlier this year.

I agree- hopefully Tyree gets some PT in the right situations this year. We will see if Tommy earns his promotion.
My bold prediction is that this year’s RB group will be last year’s LB crew- something we worry about endlessly in the offseason that we end up thinking “hm, why was there cause for concern?”
So the two RBs w/ breakaway speed (Armstrong & Speights) are both injury prone.
We were told Kyren would see the field as a freshman last season b/c of his pass catching abilities. After missing a pass in the opener, he was never heard from again.
Smith & CBo are solid but not anyone w/ an above avg D is game planning against.
The best RB talent ND had was kicked out of school

To me the coaches are making a bad situation into a decent one by their moves. Having 6 scholarship guys is a ton (probably 6 cause Davis is either a WR or something else) and because they don’t have the high end obvious talent, it’s more of throwing darts at a dartboard. With more darts, they’re hoping they can find a talented guy or two to rise to the top.
RS SR Trevor Speights
RS JR Jafar Armstrong
RS SO Jahmir Smith
RS SO C’Bo Flemister
RS FR Kyren Williams
FR Chris Tyree
They’ve got young recruited talent and their older guys they’ve got 4 of them where you’re hoping one or two “pop”.

Thanks for this info. I’m not sure who I like most out of the returnees and I’m really looking forward to seeing who emerges. I also hope none of them transfer.I would be shocked if Kyren leaves before this season. He is supposedly putting in a ton of work, and is looking thicker yet less pudgy. Plus his twitter remains very pro ND.
Along with Mabry and Robertson, Speights is also medically disqualified. Weird transfer!
He's probably still going to have the same effect he was going to have anyways. A mature/veteran voice, zero game time.
