2016 WR Desmond Fitzpatrick. The kid is legit for the 2016 class and Wiltfong expects him to be highly recruited. Says ND will have a shot if they want one.

Is anybody arriving on campus today, or are they all showing up tomorrow for the game?

According to Nick Conner's update at BGI we're calling the elite camp in June "Irish Invasion"

Yeah, I thought there was some major rift between the guys who run Core6 and ND. Am I off on that, or did something change?

I could be wrong, but I always felt the "rift" between core6 and ND was blown out of proportion by members of this board.

While that it always a possibility TJ at II explained this awhile back. There was definitely a rift between the two parties. He wouldn't speak to what it was.

I don't know how "major" but at one point they certainly weren't doing us any favors. And conversely they were working with/for other schools and actively encouraging them to places that were not ND.

I really don't think it was. It was a pretty real and serious problem with a major player in our backyard. Honestly, it's the kind of thing you routinely see in recruiting for sports that have a big "club" or summer circuit with coaches, trainers, or "mentors." Most of the time all you have to do is scratch their back or pay to attend their camps or whatever and you can get yourself in their good graces. I think there was also a philosophical element... plus the old coach at Crete-Monee allegedly had some vendetta against Kelly and that's a primary Chicago HS for recruiting... so there were a lot of things going a wrong direction.

Go back and read Nyles Morgan's thread. It went from this TJ post:

There's a lot of "interesting advice" being thrown around a number of visible Chicagoland prospects in recent years. We have good intel on this. It's a shame, really, but I suppose it's easier and plays better to some to make ND the "villain" here.

...to "Core 6 hates ND" pretty quickly. I never saw any evidence of that posted at the time and for a while (1-2 months last summer) more and more people were running with the "Core 6 hates ND" narrative.

I don't doubt that there was something, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was "started" by ND's staff in the sense that these Core 6 programs are fairly new to football and are now becoming a part of the recruiting equation whereas before it was College + HS coach + Player and no "AAU-type" intermediaries. I could envision a scenario where BK and staff didn't give these guys the respect they thought they deserved and, in turn, Core 6 didn't push guys to ND. The way some respected posters here made it seem, including you, STL, Whiskey, etc, was that Core 6 was actively working against ND. I saw it a bit differently and, as you said, they weren't doing us any favors but I think their influence over these kids is greatly exaggerated.

So, was there some kind of "rift"? Sure, I believe there was, but as I said, it quickly got blown out of proportion IMO.

FWIW, HS coaches really dislike these Core 6 type programs. As Lax said, it's the whole "AAU" philosophy creeping into football and HS coaches are territorial by nature. They don't like anyone besides their staff working with their players. Of course they can't stop it and kids are going to do what they feel is best to increase their D1 scholarship opportunities, but don't think for a second programs like Core 6 are supported by their area HS football coaches.

FWIW, we had been talking about Core 6 on here for a long time before the TJ post. Let me see if I can dig them up, but it came to a head in the class before Morgan (Treadwell, Tulley-Tillman, etc.) so it's probably in those threads.

EDIT: Can't seem to find the posts, but there's a reference to them in the Parrker Westphal thread. We had a lengthy discussion on the roots of the Core 6 guys as well as what had been heard "on the street."

Okay. All I remember is the Core 6 discussion from last spring/summer and feeling like it was being blown out of proportion at the time. It's the offseason so everything gets blown out of proportion. I'm happy to hear they'll be visiting in June.

Overall I agree. HS Coaches like their kids getting as much practice and playing time as possible. What they don't like is when the AAU and travel circuits interfere with their schedule. The other piece to that is the travel coaches telling these kids they can do more for the kids than the HS coach can. Too many of these coaches are in it because of their own ego.

I played with Paul Szcesny (sp?) in high school. He's the guy who founded/runs Core 6. always thought the guy was kind of a stroke and was kind of surprised he got a big time training center up n running (never struck me as a particularly bright bulb). Good for him tho..

Is Boykin Core 6 or is it just a coincidence?

Seems like a major down year for Core 6, besides the DE from East St Louis there really isn't any big time national prospects in the area this year.
