So, about that Alize guy...should be a hell of a TE.

Huh, what? This isn't the "Golson/Koyack/Eifert" thread? I must be lost. Could someone give me directions to that post?

TRANSITION...

The kid really seems like a Tyler Eifert clone: a super-jumbo receiver who is intent to do his share of the dirty work.

What bodes well is that he picked a team specifically because they plan on training him to be a full-service TE. In hoops terms, its like a 6'10" kid that can shoot and dribble, but wants to learn how to work the paint!

Looks like a special player. Amazing that ND is in this position after the bad ending of the regular season.

Until Mora is left with his dick in his hand and takes a hit on the depth chart due to us flipping an impact player, he will not have tasted his own medicine. This clown is just gonna fill the spot with Clark in all likelihood. It IS nice to flip a kid from UCLA, don't get me wrong. I just don't think this makes us even quite yet. A few more player of Jones' caliber and we can call it a day ;)

"Jones is known as versatile tight end and a pass-catching threat. During Army week, he struggled cleanly catching the ball and he seemed to lose focus at times. He definitely brings a lot of athleticism to the table, but after seeing some of his struggles against like competition, it was apparent a move needed to be made in the rankings." -- Jason Howell, Mid-South Recruiting Analyst

I guess 64/TD against (at the time) #1 Bosco, 95/TD against #13 Bingham, and 163/2TD against #17 Centennial is just terrible competition. But an All-Star game where he was hurt is a perfect barometer of how he projects at the next level.

Effin Rivals, man.... lol

Rivals is the worst ranking site of the big 4 IMO.

I don't follow ESPN's anymore so I can't compare but their (rivals) justifications for dropping players solely based on a AA game is crazy. Their rationale for dropping Wimbush is accuracy. He just put together an entire season against decent competition where he almost set the national record for comp pct. yet he's deemed not accurate after 1 week of practice and game.

Does everyone feel the same about Coney's ranking jump from unranked to 118 based on the All Star game???

They said it was Senior year and the All-star, but I hear what you are saying. It's a good point.

I think it should be 90% based on seasons, the rest games and combines. It's nice info to have an it keeps recruiting relevant, but it's on the field and in pads where recruits should really be evaluated IMO. If Coney moved up mostly because of the UA game, that's just silly.

I think it depends on position. I feel like the best ones to evaluate from all star camps is probably DL, RBs, DBs, then WRs.

Yeah that's ridic making huge updates to rankings solely on all-star games.

Maybe he just had a bad week. The film i saw on him made him as much a must-have this year than just about any player we got. When he reports for spring practice, he'll likely never think about where he was ranked coming out of HS again.

Fair question and yes I do think that was a little over the top to see that big of a jump. However, I think they're slightly different scenarios as I think Coney was just criminally under ranked going into the event. He should have been top 250 player this entire time. Very apparent that he was as good as the other LB's at the event and if so he needed to be bump quite a bit.

Yeah I was saying that mostly tongue and cheek but thanks for pointing out that they did talk about his senior year. I had missed that

If they based it solely on the UA practice and performance, then Yes a slight bump into the top 250 would have been fine. But, a huge bump is just silly.

Here's my general thoughts...

1) Camps should be able to HELP you rise up the rankings if analysts see something they like.
2) Camps should not cause you to fall relative to your tape unless:
-You play bad competition
-Your listed measureables (height/weight/speed) are inaccurate
-You show a tangible fault... like bad hands... that won't show up on highlights because you won't leave in your drops.
