Not a freshman. But a rookie.

Literally his first start on the road.

Also, what talent?

He has 5 rushing TDs and going on 200 yards on the ground already.... That's pretty physical and talented.

Denard Robinson was a great runner too but I doubt anyone would say he was even a good QB

1. Speed isn't talent, especially for a quarterback. Speed helps, but TALENT means an ability to pass the damn football.

2. And spare me the repetitive nonsense about him being a "rookie." College football players don't develop like that. They either have it or they don't. Half the teams in the country are playing a "rookie" at any given time.

Just not seeing it early in the season.

I certainly hope so. Just not as advertised up front-and he's run for his fourth rushing TD of the day against BC as I write this. Haha.

Has come back STRONG. These are the traits. If he gets a bit of confidence in his line again he might do some damage.

I think Griese said it on the broadcast, and i am no fan of his commentating abilities, but he nailed his Wimbush assessment.

Something to the effect, legs will carry him now and his arm (powerful) will follow.

His inaccuracy won't kill ND against average or below average teams (his legs will make up for it) but it will cause problems against good teams that have the speed to take away his running ability (see Georgia game). If he can't improve his accuracy and his ability to read defenses and go through his progressions, ND will lose to USC and probably Stanford and/or Miami.

No doubt. This is a 7 win team if passing doesn't improve. NC State has a good D too. You can't beat good teams being one dimensional.

Thing is, Wimbush is the best we've got. We just need him to settle down and get better.

I really want him to do well because I like the guy but 5.15 yards per completion is not going to help us beat any team worth anything. To go along with a 52% completion percentage in unacceptable playing both temple and BC 2 out of the first three games. I hope they figure something out soon before the meat of the schedule hits.

Let me be clear as I've been hard on him in the post game thread. You do not bench him. But what you damn do is, make sure you take the game backwards for him. He's not where you thought, but he could be.

Make easier reads. Less reads. Shorten the field. Don't make his play action be a decision, ex. Zone read.

Right. He's our best QB and I don't think it's close. He just needs to settle down and play better. That will come with experience.
What's odd to me is Kelly's track record with first-year quarterbacks is quite good. He simplifies the offense and plays to their strengths. In this case it feels like they're putting too much on Wimbush, and he's defaulting to what he's most comfortable with, which is, mostly, running the ball.

Some of this is really easy. I wish Wimbush nothing but the best but some of what happened tonight is, quite literally, QB 101, hit open guy. He couldn't do that. And it's not the first time
