I guess technically it is regression if the numbers go down. I guess I just never realized people actually thought that was a sustainable pace, lol. He had a pace of 26 QB pressures through 7 games, lol. Ed Oliver won the outland trophy last year and had 27 all season, per PFF. Through the next 4 games, Tillery added 11 pressures for a total of 37 on the season. Second most in the country among "interior" DL. Not sure about updated numbers post USC but he'll probably be credited with at least 2 QB pressures.

Sack + QB hits + QB hurries = QB pressures per PFF.

Regression? I dunno. He's had a hell of a year.

Also as someone noted on the USC thread, he has played a ton of snaps for us, this year and for four years. He's a three-year starter and was in the rotation as a freshman. Is there anyone on the roster who's logged more snaps for Notre Dame than Tillery? The only ones I can think of might be Tranquill or Mustipher.

Terry Jillery isn't regressing. Stop posting that silly nonsense.

A few years ago when Tillery wasn't there for his team in the desert on a bowl game, I would have said they should part ways and he was a total bust.

Now, I'd argue he's a leader on the defense and having one hell of a senior year. Regressing? Hell no.

I wouldn't think Tranquil would have as many because of his season ending injuries 2 years in a row. But he has played a lot the other 3 years so so knows.

I'm not trying to knock on Jerry when I say that his on field performance has regressed. There are multiples reasons why, numbers wise, he has regressed this season. Like Lucci said, having 7 sacks in the first month of the season isn't sustainable. But it would've been nice to see a sack sprinkled in here and there throughout the second half of the season and not just 1 in the last game of the year. I just remember hearing his name A LOT in the first half of the season and not nearly as much in the second half.

I've always been a "glass half full" kinda guy with Notre Dame football. But I'm calling it like I see it with this one. Notre Dame needs September Tillery if they want to beat Clemson.

i'd prefer to see QB hurries over graphed over the season. Keep in mind that 4 of the 7 came in one game. And 2 of the 7 came in another. That's 6/7 in just two games.

I'd guess that teams noticed him, and started double teaming him more.

Give me a few and I'll pull some stats his season. Need to finish my pancakes, eggs, and sage sausage!

Multiple reasons, you listed sacks and hearing his name being called? That’s some really good analysis there. Basing his regression on hearing his name called ;)

Experts don’t think he’s “regressed”. There’s a reason they scout more than sacks and there is a reason they don’t scout when an announcer calls their name. A lot more to the game than that.

When I say there could be multiple reasons for regression, I'm talking about exhaustion, double teams, injury, etc..

I know its not just his fault, but then I think of the teams towards the end of the season getting some push up front in the run game. That didn't happen in September and most of October.

We can agree to disagree and theres nothing wrong with that.

Just because I think Tillery has regressed, doesn't mean I'm not a fan of his. I still want him on our d-line and will be cheering hard for Tillery in the playoffs.

I just find it funny that the explanation for these feelings other than sack totals, is the amount you hear his name. And have refused to even acknowledge what actual scouts are saying. One would think more would go into it than that.

I know what scouts are saying. Following the NFL Draft is one of my favorite hobbies. I've read from many places that he will be one of top interior pass rushers in the draft. At one point I saw him getting mocked as early as the mid 20s; lately, I've seen him being mocked in the second round.

I see that Tillery had the highest grade out of the ND defense against SC. Thats awesome. PFF loves him general, as they graded him out at almost 90 for the season.

So, no, I'm not ignoring what scouts are saying. Like I said, we can agree to disagree.

Not sure how accurate ESPN’s numbers are. Tillery had at least two hurries versus Syracuse. One was the Hayes sack. In fact, if Hayes had done his job effectively, Tillery probably gets the sack as Devito wouldn’t have been able to get outside the pocket.

Congrats but I feel I'm missing something.

I predicted JT would lead the team in sacks and would be second team AA. I was off a bit (which team).

Nothing to do with Mack. Sorrwy for not being clear.

Pete Sampson in his latest article reporting that Tillery suffered a Torn Labrum in his right shoulder during the Stanford game. Played the rest of the season with it.
