TJ at rivals addressed that saying that we never wanted him at NG. We always thought his services were best be DE in the 3-4 and DT in the 4-3. With that said, one could speculate that a certain fan base and football staff may have convinced Eddie otherwise......UCLA

Not trying to call you out here personally, bro, but this sounds like WILD speculation and reeks of desperation in looking for a scapegoat: ucla, through back channels, convinces EV that ND doesn't want him on the otside of the DL, but rather on the interior....all in the hopes that they get him to renege on his LOI and come to their school.

Again, not meaning to come off as an a$$ towards you, Lucky-- I somewhat enjoy the speculation game as much as the next guy, but this sounds quite dubious to me.

Cackalacky,
What I learned from your response.
1. Weis was a great recruiter and could hold on to his 5 star talent... Brian Kelly cannot.

2. That No 18 year old kid ala Lynch has ever made a dumb decision over a piece of a$$. Which somehow equates to Kelly not being able to hold on to talent.

3. You don't have a clue about what the hell your talking about considering you don't even know when Davonte Neal had his baby... but yet you can judge his interest in the ND program by watching a few 30 second interviews.

4. We should never recruit a kid who is unsure about a decision that will affect the rest of his life a "recruiting nightmare" as you call it. Kinda like Everett Golson who was committed to another school before ours and came in late in the process.

5. We are going to lose every 5 star player we get. Including the 3 left in the 2013 class.

6. Your post and your reasoning sucks.

Yep, that's obviously what he said.

This is getting ridiculous.

That's why I said one could speculate. Considering no one on here knows what really happened including you, almost all of this is speculation. Also, I don't think that its that far fetched to believe there was some sort of tampering going on. In fact a lot of people and quality posters believe it to be true. Even some insiders at various sites have eluded to the fact that UCLA's staff had something to do with this.

Tampering? Sure, I believe (as do probably all of us) occurred in some way.

A scenario where ucla reached out to him and convinced him that ND had other plans for him seems VERY unlikely.

That's what you got out of my post? I was told to take the poop sling elsewhere. So how about EV?

I guess we need to start expecting this type of stuff with the highly rated recruits under Kelly. I know its all speculation right now, but is it too much of a stretch to think there are that many 5 star kids out there that are ready to tackle ND? If Kelly is gonna go after these kids, we better start expecting baggage, or at a bare minimum, drama. I know I have. If I see a 5 star now, I do not have high expectations.
Keil
Neal
Shephard
Greenberry
Lynch

How come we are having these problems under Kelly and not under Weis? His 5-stars stuck around it seems to me.

I do Understand what you are saying. But there is 5 * talent out there that seem to have their heads on straight. Lest include from the 14' class Max Redifield, Greg Bryant, and Jaylon Smith. Yes 2 of them did we committed else where but these recruits really IMO didn't have a lot of drama. It's a matter of picking the right 5* kids to go after. There are still good ones that aren't all about the attention like some are.

It's a bummer that we get a few losers who happen to be 5 star recruits, but I guess the odds are increased when we get more 5 stars.

But a month ago, most of this board would have said that EV was someone who had his head on straight. Things can change so quickly.

The same guys on here that were saying that, are now denying that it has anything to do with the staff and blaming it all on the kid that was either "ALL IRISH"!!! or "He's a good kid with his stuff together"...

But I"M the a$$hole for mentioning it possibly being a failure of our coaching staff or some rift. I love it.

Had to point that out. Couldn't resist.

And I said that Weis was a great recruiter and Kelly can't because I don't know anything about recruiting. They are all great kids with the right stuff....that is until they leave ND.
LOL....

Actually, and correct me if I'm wrong, I'm pretty sure people think you're an ******* because you have been stating that all the 5 stars we've lost have been because of the staff without actually providing any reasonable explanation as to why.

DIdn't say all. Just brought up that it could be the staff and/or Kelly. And I'm not denying that there are other reasons recruits leave. Never said that.

To be honest, continuing to deny that your coaching staff has nothing to do with a mass exodus of high end recruits (because you heard from "so-and-so" insider) is just naive. It just doens't make sense that every time one of these guys leaves they are (after IE insiders claim that they're "all irish" and he's a good kid), homesick, wishy-washy, or all of sudden miss their girlfriend so bad that they have to move home? What?

Anazalone was the f*cking man on this site when he committed. So was Ronald "Nitro" Darby. All Irish. Great kids.

If it has been just "kids being kids"....then we're all full of sh*t around here when we claim a kid is "all irish" when he signs on the dotted line, no?

Maybe we should just wait until they report before we add them to the committed list and give them cool nicknames. LOL. I think that will help my blood pressure, and some others, in the future when it comes to recrutiing.

Let me step back here and address one issue that seems to keep coming up in your discussion.

Many of you keep speculating that the issue "could be" a missing required class or some similar academic shortcoming on Eddie's part...

HIGHLY DOUBTFUL...
Why?
Because, if that we're the issue, this whole thing would have already been resolved...
Failure to qualify for admission to the university would invalidate the LOI. End of story.
In order for this to still be going on, Notre Dame would have had to admit Eddie without qualification...

So, I doubt that theory is a possibility.

At this point in time, there are limited possible scenarios and outcomes...

1. Notre Dame can, somehow, convince Eddie to change his mind and enroll.
2. Notre Dame can grant him his release, be done with it and move on.
3. The NCAA can rule in Eddie's favor and it's over and Eddie goes elsewhere and is immediately eligible.
4. The NCAA can rule in Notre Dame's favor and Eddie goes elsewhere and red shirts one year, then plays three.
5. The NCAA rules in Notre Dame's favor and Eddie resigns himself to playing for Notre Dame.

Correct?

Okay, let's look at the likelihood of each of these possibilities...honestly...
1. Despite the wishes of most Notre Dame fans, doesn't seem to be a very good chance of happening. This has been developing over the past two months and Eddie and family are quite adamant. The longer the struggle, the less the chance.
2. Doesn't seem that Notre Dame is yet willing to concede the point.
3. Along with four, the only two real likely outcomes.
4. See #3
5. Also extremely unlikely. See #1.

So, in all likelihood, it comes down to two possibilities...The appeal process runs its course and, in the case of either result, Eddie plays elsewhere. Either he plays as a freshman, or he redshirts as a freshman. In either case, he goes into the NFL draft in four years, if not sooner.
Only difference is whether he plays freshman year or merely practices and watches...
He DOES get a full scholarship at his destination school either way. Lots of kids redshirt their freshman years, it isn't really that big a thing.

Winning the appeal process is little more than a Pyrrhic victory for Notre Dame. All that would be accomplished would be to deny the kid a year of game experience in revenge for changing his mind after signing the LOI. Will it really set a precedent? Likely not. Not many kids EVER change their minds AFTER signing an LOI anywhere. most often, they signed with a school because that is where they wanted to go...and they are pretty much sold on it. LOI, then, game over.

This one is a RARE instance. So, whatever happens here really won't have any great future effect. Most kids, an overwhelming majority of them, will always follow through and attend the school they've signed with...absent some sort of extenuating circumstance.

Nothing Notre Dame does here appears to be able to result in holding on to the recruit. Any attempt to keep the kid from getting out of the LOI appears vindictive at best.

But, assuming that Notre Dame wants to maintain that stand, which way will the appeals process go?
According to the stats one of the posters here posted many pages ago, it's overwhelming in favor of the recruit. But, for the sake of argument, let's say it's 50/50, based on the facts.

Problem is, no one here really knows the facts. Vanderdoes' family believes they have a case. Only they, and, presumably, the school, know what the basis of that appeal is. Everything here is mere speculation.

If it REALLY is the "missing class requirement" theory, but, somehow, Notre Dame has put him into admission limbo, the case is likely pretty strong. You cannot compel someone to take and pass a class. If it's based on some sort of reneging on a promise, say to play one position over another, as has also been speculated here, that's a likely loser. Coaches make "promises" like that in recruiting all the time. Proving it before a trier of fact is near impossible. But, you would think the Vanderdoes family knows that.

I am GUESSING it is something completely different. There is likely something that works as an argument...and an arbitration may go either way...but, either way makes little difference.

I'm not going to read every single post in here...just way too much time and effort.

If Vandy decides to not come to ND can the mods please take down the "Notre Dame Signed LOI" and put up something like "UCLA Transfer" -- that is all I need to know on what the final outcome is with this debacle. -- until then I will believe he is still coming in June.

Hope he stays.

Thanks!

I think you don't understand how recruiting and college football works. Sorry you are kind of clueless?

Again, Neal wanted to be at ND but made a switch for his family. Having a kid doesn't mean baggage - we've had plenty of players have kids and stick around.

And again, please point out that I said you should be surprised they left? I was pointing out that it wasn't a surprise they left and why it had nothing to do with Kelly. Speaking of reading comprehension you clown.

Please read more and post less.

No offense, but where do you get off making such a condescending post. You can disagree with what someone says, and even their methodology, or interpretations of the facts, but you don't have to be an a$$hat about it, by making it personal. If it is your time of month and you need a shot of cranberry juice, just let us know. Otherwise, give yourself and Cack a break. And by the way, Cack is a pretty respected poster around here, as well as a championship gator wrastler!

Let me . . . makes little difference.

I think the consensus here is that there is no reason for someone not to report when they make a commitment. Whether they have had their heads filled with misinformation by others or not, someone need to take a reality check. In this case, someone has claimed egregious injury on the part of ND and it's reps. Good. They have had a chance to state what that is, and have repeatedly said they were going to. They still haven't.

So other than amazement, a bit of confusion and some empathetic embarrassment, all I see from IE posters is, "NEXT MAN IN!"

If there is some lingering academic issue it's possible he had a change of heart early on and disn't want to fulfill it thinking that failure to academically qualify for ND would get him automatically released from his LOI.

I don't think BruinSteve is necessarily correct that failure to qualify automatically voids it. Wasn't Randy Moss forced to sit out a year after he signed an LOI but failed to be accepted by admissions and went to FSU?

Really!? Again?

Look, this is simple.
Keil - couldn't beat out our QB and he knew it. He wanted to play and didn't want to sit at ND 3 years. Every top school has had this happen lately - USC, Florida, Bama. That is a risk with top QB's that don't win the starting job.
Neal - had a child that he wanted to be close to. That's Kelly's fault how? Kelly didn't give him protection before he left for Arizona?
Shepard - didn't get past NCAA clearinghouse. Couldn't even get into Oklahoma.
DGB - knew what was going on with Shepard and bailed. No surprise really.
Lynch - a head case that wanted back but ND said no.

Lynch wanted back in AFTER South Florida?!

Don't be led off track by Scuba Steve. It doesn't appear that EV is ineligible, and no one other than him is saying that. The rumor is that there was an "academic misunderstanding" of some kind, as yet undefined, that damaged EV's trust in our coaching staff, NOT that made EV ineligible. By all accounts, Eddie's issue is not his eligibility.

Lynch wanted back in AFTER South Florida?!

Yeah, this rumor has appeared on our board persistently over the last few months. I never heard the source or the full story and don't know if it's true, but respected posters are saying it, so I think there's some truth to it.

he went to USF after he tried to come back in (was technically still "here")...and we said no.

The rumor surfaced when we were rolling at the end of the last season, not while he was still at ND.
