Should specify that the kid was trash tonight and has been nothing more than average his whole career.

I really disagree. I think he has been a very good player up until tonght.

Everyone as like "oh no can Coleman and Love cover?" and then Cole Luke blew man coverage, zone coverage, didn't make plays when in position, didn't tackle... I mean he's supposed to be the "good" player back there... the veteran leader... and they just threw at him all day long and it worked virtually every time.

assumed it was a message: we'll go after your best and make 'em chump... bc coleman is/was just out of his league almost every time... ND's secondary could have been exploited ALL second half if msu didn't play conservatively as they always do in keep-the-lead scenarios

I kind of agree. I think luke is easily our best cb rigjt now but that speaks more to the lack of experienced talent in the back end than it does for luke's abilities. Tonighy was really really bad but overall i think hes just kind of been average throughout his career...

2014, he was lockdown incarnate. 2015 was a step backwards, and it's looking like 2016 is another one....sigh....

Our secondary as a whole is a complete incompetent mess at this juncture. Cole has had him moments (good and bad) up until this game, but this one had to his worse ever. Very disappointing.

To be fair to the secondary, the stat that NBC put up early showed just how decimated the perceived DB's coming out of spring ball were. Redfield, Butler, Watkins, Crawford, Sebastian(?). Tough to replace all of that. But Luke needed to be the leader, and he just played poorly tonight. Let's also remember that it is easier to play DB when the QB is under duress. Unfortunately, that has not happened enough in the last 2 years.

I almost fell over yesterday when they put up McShay's ranked ND players for the draft and Cole Luke was listed like a top 50-60 guy.

Think he found his spot in the NFL as a nickel defender.

I believe he could probably play FS in the NFL also.

He isn't allowed to be a grad student?

nope, he played as a freshman and never missed a game. He can continue his education as a grad student but it wouldn't be as a scholarship player as he is out of eligibility.

The team that picks Cole up is probably going to get a deal and a half. Thanks for the 4 seasons Cole.

My gut belief is that Cole will blossom in the NFL if he gets into the right system.

Not so much as Harrison Smith, or even some of the corners that have succeeded as safeties, but he has better skills than shown in college at ND (Mathias Farley), and will excel in the right NFL defensive system as a specialist.

No one can fault Cole for the effort he gave ND.

Well I mean you can, but that would make you a dn, wouldn't it?

Best of luck Cole!

He'll still be taken in the first 4 rounds. He's a good corner and can add value to most teams.

He has lots of bad tape from this year though. It's not like ND's Pro Day is ignored, but getting some eyes on him at the Combine and those team interviews are pretty important for any guy who isn't a lock to go in the first.

CBs, like QBs, generally go higher than their projected value, and Cole has a lot of good film to go with the bad. Plus it's hard for a CB to look decent when his D-line stinks and his safeties are mediocre.
