This is the third thread I've seen you make this claim. Quit trying to pin this with Michigan. Schools have done this for many many years, it goes beyond the Skunkbears. There are "Harvard men" and "Stanford men" and I've even seen "Alabama men" before, whatever that entails. This has nothing to do with Michigan, other than they practice the tradition too (And they suck).

Fair enough, agree to disagree. What about the team number # as well? Heck if you wanna go back farther they taught us how to play football and built a stadium extremely similar to theirs. I believe same building design as Lambeau. I guess ND and Michigan just share a lot of the same things

Teams borrow from other teams all the time if they think it will provide an edge.
Look at the Pot of Gold. I want to say Kentucky or some other school started sending tons of mail to a recruit to try and lure them in. Not long after we started the Pot of Gold. As far as the building design it is similar to Michigan's Stadium, but I'm sure you could point to many stadiums that were similar during that period of history. We changed the location of the tunnel, so it certainly had some architectural differences, it's not like the design was an exact copy. As far as teaching them football, who cares? If it wasn't Michigan, some other school in the Midwest would have brought football to Notre Dame.

I think you're focusing too much on Michigan. Yes, we share some things with them, but we're Notre Dame, not Michigan. We have our own traditions, our own way of doing things. We've actually won some championships outright since the 40s, although sadly none since '88. You say we borrowed the Team# thing from Michigan, but how do you know other schools weren't doing it before them? I bet you Michigan probably stole it from another school first, just like some coach next season will be climbing trees and sleeping at recruits houses ala Harbaugh next year. Teams take whatever they can if they think it gives them some edge in recruiting.

Everything you said is 100% correct but I'm just saying I know Michigan both use those terms and they were the only teams I could think of that both use those so that's why I brought them up.

Delighted for Tommy. Hope he has a great career.

... and can we quit taking shots at him? Do people ever let anything go around here?

Seriously. Kelly is probably fired without Tommy to bail us out in numerous games. The guy played above his potential, no one ever expected he'd see the field if you reread the beginning of this thread, yet without question he was the best we had multiple years he was here. I'm not really sure you could have asked more from a player with his limitations. He exceeded expectations for rational football analysts, but he could never possibly live up to the expectations of irrational fans. The fans booing him in the stadium were classless, and the vitriol and death threats thrown toward him were uncalled for. The guy was only part of the winningest class in the last 20+ years, and he was a big part of that. He also went 2-1 in bowls he started, and probably could have gone 3-0 in starts against USC if not for that untimely fumble while he was on the sideline in 2011.

People need to let the hatred go. If you're really going to be negative, look towards the higher profile recruits that didn't reach their potential or couldn't beat out Tommy, or the guys like Golson that screwed up and forced Tommy to start to begin with. Don't bring the guy down that stepped up to the plate when the others failed.

GB doesn't, he's still pissed over 1887.

The rest are pissed because they said Tommy would never get an NFL contract.

Lol yea man I'm really upset Michigan taught us how to play football and we did things extremely similar to them. No one said Thomas would play in the NFL and collect a contract that way because that was just never going to happen and everyone knows it. Who said he would never make it as a coach? Some of you people treat give tommy the son treatment

I looked, and I didn't see a reference to this article.

Chargers add ex-Notre Dame QB Tommy Rees to coaching staff | CSN Chicago

I liked what his teammates had to say about him.

Also, I liked his quote which he attributed to his father; more than almost any other player, I believe Tommy lived the game!

And there was a little humor, when the article mentioned his father was director of player personnel for WF.

I have it through good sources that he was offered a similar position at Notre Dame, but chose to decline it, because Brian Kelly, "drove him nuts!"

I still chuckle at that!

Honestly the whole thing needs to die. Just another thing we stole from Michigan lol

Good luck and great for Thomas though. Hopefully for his professional sakes he goes by Tom or Thomas now.

I disagree about the Michigan thing. Bo said a Michigan Man will coach Michigan. Our context is completely different.

Yeah, like racism. Michigan on the giving end; ND on the getting end!

The most major and significant fact related to Michigan and ND is, if Michigan hadn't been the elite, racist, and red-necked slobs they were, and hadn't boycotted ND, locking them out of the Western Athletic Conference, ND would not have developed the play anyone anywhere, attitude and philosophy, and probably wouldn't nearly be the relevant, national power they are today!

Do I thank Michigan, or at least think fondly of them? Hell, no! Fuck Michigan!

Guys the only reason I msde the conparassion is that Michigan is discussed daily on this board no matter what. So it's easy to relate too. I mean we don't even play them but discussed daily. Why I don't read that thread but let's get back to Thomas good luck to him in San Diego and hopefully he stops at ND at some point in his coaching career

Your grammar and spelling show that you are a Michigan fan.

Solid argument I've stated in the past I have a learning disability when it comes to reading and writing so sorry I'm not up to par with you ND grads. Caring about grammar someone's on a message board is pretty sad. It's well documented I don't shine in that category but I do appreciate the weekly reminders. Michigan is a wonderful public school, so I'm fine with that.

Solid post little brother! Reps!

But to be clear, you don't owe anyone on this board an apology.

I don't owe anybody anything that's the way I am and the way I am going to be. I know my posting style and attitude towards a lot of things are not in the norm on this board but I'm not gonna change because a few don't like it. It's just who I've been and always will be.

Now let's back to Thomas Rees seining how this thread is about him, I already have a thread dedicated for me.

FWIW, GB, I was kidding with the Michigan Man thing. I thought italics weren't needed. As far as grammer, fuck it.

And you're telling me that!

Kind of like preaching to the choir; (Amen, Hallelujah, Bro!)

Now you know one of those big things I said we had in common back when you couldn't see a bit of similarity between us.
