Martin with a knee injury tonight
Zack Martin of Dallas Cowboys out with knee injury

Martin, who will undergo an MRI on Sunday, was hurt on a 7-yard run by Rod Smith, on which it appeared that the helmet of a Cincinnati defender hit Martin's knee. Martin limped off the field and spent a good portion of time in the medical tent before heading to the locker room.

He returned to the sideline in the second half. He was not in uniform.

thanks and reps.
saw another vid as well. he got right up, and the limp as not horrible. didn't even look like a helmet to knee hit. more of a shoulder to helmet hit, but the angle was bad so really couldn't tell.

DBs always whine about being cut by OL. Then Dre Kirkpatrick cuts an OL and likely ends his season. Let’s hope the MRI is negative & he can start game one.

https://cowboyswire.usatoday.com/20...-no-ligament-damage-but-theres-a-bone-bruise/

The Cowboys are reacting like this is the least severe version of a bone bruise, but there are cautionary tales. Bone bruise is a catch-all term for a microfracture, and there is a range of different severities.

Bone bruises have been the cause of microfracture surgery on many occasions, including with the Cowboys a few years ago with defensive end Anthony Spencer. Spencer was initially diagnosed with a bone bruise during the offseason, tried to give it a go for a few weeks before microfracture surgery was necessary.

It’s one of the few surgical procedures in today’s NFL that can still derail a career.

I guess not totally in the clear, but I'm glad the ligaments are fine.

I don't understand microfractures either, but from the little I have read, it's not really like a regular fracture. From what I've read, the problem with them healing is getting blood to them so they can heal. One treatment is to drill holes in the bone in order to get blood to the bone to help the healing. This is usually one of the last steps and not a good sign if that has to happen.

IIRC Steve Stipanovich (Pacers) had his career derailed early because of a microfracture. Jadeveon Clowney had the surgery as did Amar'e Stoudemire.

Found this doing a quick google search.

"Microfracture is a viable and effective way to treat small chondral defects in patients who are athletically active, but improvement declines over time and competitive athletes should be advised as such.

Those were the findings that Alberto Gobbi, MD, presented here at the International Cartilage Repair Society World Congress 2012.

“We found better results in young, active athletes with a short duration of symptoms, small size … and fewer prior surgical interventions,” Gobbi said. “In our study, those who did not do well were those with large chondral defects, lesions to the trochlea or the patella, and multiple lesions. We did find that early failures were seen within 2 years to 3 years of follow-up.”

Let's hope ZMart recovers quickly with no lingering effects.

Zach Martin once told a teammate 'watch this' and proceeded to do a push up.

The teammate said 'big deal, you did a push up.'

Martin got up, gave a wry smile and said 'I just pushed the earth slightly out of orbit.'

Bengals gonna Bengal

As a Bengals fan, I am no stranger to their shortcomings and issues.

But this was a routine play where a DB did what most defenders are taught to do when facing a double-team or getting beat: hit the deck and create a pile in the hole.

In this instance, Kirkpatrick had two options: Get pancaked, or get down and muck up the edge where Martin was coming through as a lead blocker.

He wisely took option 2, instead of staying up and getting himself erased by the best interior offensive lineman in the league. It's a bummer that Martin got hurt, of course, but Dre was doing what he was supposed to do.

I don't think it's an ACL, but I'm not a doctor. More than anything it looks like they came straight down and didn't bend it sideways. Hyper-extended? Who knows.

1st team All-Pro for the fourth time. He's been at least 2nd team every year he's been in the league. Potential future Hall of Famer?
