I can see it now in a 5 wide set. Kamara, Rudolph, Goodman, Baldwin, Floyd. we wouldnt be able to be stopped on jump balls.

I think ND has a better shot at Baldwin than they do Butler. Then after those two guys which in my opinion are behind Floyd as ND's top targets there is a big drop off. I wouldn't be too suprised if they brought Jeremy Brown in as a 3rd WR rather than a CB if they can land him along with McCarthy, and Slaughter.

I'd luv to see two speedsters in at WR this year. I think it's our biggest opportunity for improvement, as our LB corp is looking better.

I don't think he is a viable option at this point. He barely pays any attention to who is offering him and said he'll probably wait until NSD to choose. IMO he isn't near that caliber player to wait that long and he won't have a scholarship available for him at that time.

It's coming from several different places than just this that we might be a slight leader at this point. From what I've heard he is not anywhere near deciding so this could just be good news for the moment.

A Step Ahead: Jim Stefani's Underclassmen Football Recruiting Blog: Post-Camp U-M Football Recruiting Thoughts: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

"I’ve heard from three separate sources that Michigan has fallen behind Notre Dame in the Jonathan Baldwin sweepstakes. This is the first bit or REAL bad news in the recruiting front this year. The other prospects Notre Dame has beaten U-M out for this year are all solid kids, but none are the difference-maker type of prospects that Baldwin is. Wolverine fans won’t be able to spin this one away should Baldwin go Irish."

----Except they got that wrong they offered all of our "solids" very early so I don't think Lloyd thought they were "ok" or just "solid" and all bowed to ND's greatness.

Montour linebacker Wilson narrowing his choices - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

Baldwin will play football

Aliquippa's Jonathan Baldwin no longer will entertain his eight basketball scholarship offers because he's decided to focus on football in college.

"I like basketball better, but if I had a chance after college to go pro, I would think I have a better chance to play football, if I was to get that far," he said.

Baldwin, who said he's being recruited as a wide receiver and not a tight end, has decided on two of the four official visits he will take in the fall. He'll attend a game at Southern Cal and will visit Pitt. Both schools have offered him scholarships.

-------He will most likely be using the other two visits for ND and Michigan.

Alabama, Florida, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame and Pitt are his final 6.

---He has announced he will be playing in the Army All American bowl and might annouce his decision there after discussing it with his parents.

"I weighed all of the options with my parents and we decided on the U.S. Army game," Baldwin said. "But the opportunity to play with Terrelle, that was a big part of it, too."

Beaver County Times Allegheny Times - Baldwin joins Army ... All American Bowl

"It might be a possibility, but there's only 20 slates open for that," Baldwin said. "Everybody can't do it. They only have a certain amount of spots."

For anybody to lazy to read the article, when he says "Everybody can't do it." he is talking about the possibility of announcing at the Army All American Game. Sounds like we might have to wait a while for Baldwin and Floyd to announce.

---I'd bet Floyd would announce sooner than that now...

He's narrowed it to six with Florida, Miami, Pitt, Notre Dame, Michigan and USC making the list. He hears from the Irish staff twice a week.

Johnathan has decided on where he'll be taking his official visits, and they are Florida, Miami, Michigan, ND and Pitt. (USC didn't make the cut)

He is also currently planning to announce on NSD.

I heard USC approached him with the TE plan.....ELIMINATED!.........boy must not even want to sniff at TE, well thats good because we are overstocked at that position. I think he'll be Irish in the end when he looks at the weapons around him and all the Top tier TE's we've brought in.

I think it would be great if we could get Baldwin. He's reported in at 6'6 and on May 7th, scout reported he benched 320 (which seems to be pretty strong for a WR) and he has a 43 inch verticle. He would be somebody tall and could out jump just about anybody for the ball in the endzone.

It'll be interesting to see if he sticks to his NSD guns - especially if the Irish (and other schools, for that matter) are just about filled up to the brim. Might be a tactic to see how bad a school wants him. I wish it was Florida that got trimmed in favor of USC (NO, we'd never move you to TE... *nervous glances* now, about that barbecue...) but hey, I'm happy to see either school get trimmed.

It definitely makes the Floyd verbal that much more critical to lock up at least 1-2 months before NSD. Otherwise there'll be a LOT of nervous Irish fans.

“Notre Dame is one of the great universities in the United States,” Baldwin said.

Additionally, his coach, Mike Zmijanac, the guy who compared Baldwin to Plaxico Burress, strongly encouraged him to visit Notre Dame and give the Irish consideration.

-------No no no my friend, it is the best......thats it. Also, it's good to have a coach in our corner as well.

He is worth holding a spot for, especially in light of the need for real difference makers at WR.

I'd hold a spot for him as opposed to a Marcus Forston, who plays a position ND is currently oververballed at.

Agreed. As good as Forston is I don't think ND can really afford to use another scholarship on the DL unless they start striking out on most other the other prospects on their boad. Something that I don't is too likely to happen.

I would not be a stretch for me to say I'd like to see this guy irish before anyone else ... except Floyd maybe. I think WR is our biggest need by the way. After them, Filer and Sabino. But, with all this talk about Robinson and Pachan, my head is ready to explode.

Let's not forget about John Goodman. I know he's not rated as high as some of our current WR prospects, however, he is of the same mold as the Shark. They're about the same heighth, and weight, and have the same good speed, so I think we're gonna be OK. Also, on campus we have Robby Parris, who got injured his senior season in HS, and by all accounts looked pretty good in spring drills. Throw in Kamara coming in this fall, I think we're gonna be fine in terms of the WR position.

Go Irish!!!
