I know you'll laugh at me, but WHO CARES info is info and take it for what it's worth as always. Guy from DD posted that he talked to some girl who is in the same grade and school as Dan and said he was going to ND. When someone asked the poster if it was her opinion or fact? He said the way she said it In his opinion was that Dan already had his mind set on ND. Again TIFWIW.......but info is info and everyone wants to know the latest. Don't kill the messanger I'm trying to help out fellow IE'ers.

McCarthy will be up on the 24th according to Mike Frank and he thinks ND is "The team to beat" and thinks he just wants to get comfertable and make sure it's the place for him and the thing about compeating with his brother will probably be the biggest set-back.

The schools I hear as having the best odds to land McCarthy are Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Stanford. Notre Dame has the most chips in their corner when you look at it on paper - the only question is which chips matter most to him? We'll see.

According to some reports Stanford may be recruiting Dan as a QB which might cause them to be a bigger threat to ND chances then even O$U.

When it comes to McCarthy, if he comes on, great. If he doesn't, great.
He's the only guy we're recruiting as a safety currently - so I don't think there is any correlation between Leslie and McCarthy. At this point, safety recruiting is either McCarthy or bust, with an asterisks by "At this point", in the case that some "out of nowhere" senior blows up.
He's good enough that we'd tack on to an already chock-full position, but he's not good enough to "save a spot" for him no matter what.
So if he's in, we have a really nice tag-team partner to pair with Harrison Smith, and can ease the transition for when the safeties from the recruiting classes of 2005 and 2006 hit the road.
If he's a no go, I certainly wouldn't mind seeing his "spot" used elsewhere. Could go as as an extra defender (5th LB?), an extra offensive scholarship (5th OL?), or even devoted towards next year.

Yeah... I thought that too, but the most recent news out of Leslie had it the other way around. I don't know if they changed their pitch later on, or if it wasn't made public for some reason, but he's lumped in with the Jamoris Slaughter lot of "HS safety turns collegiate corner".

He just mentioned that he wants to decide sometime this summer, and he is done taking visits because he want to concentrate on his upcomming Sr. season.

I wish, but actually no. The only school recruiting McCarthy for quarterback is Penn State (I know, surprising). McCarthy has said that Stanford is recruiting him at S, along with pretty much everyone else in the country.

That is an impressive pickup for Stanford. Also yes he's being looked at as a S at Stanford. I think his main 3 are UM, OSU, and ND as he's stated with Stanford and PSU in there as well which means exactly that...they're just "in there".

If they weren't in rebuilding mode, and were fairly proximal to Big 10 country, I think Stanford would have a much better shot at him. He really liked their academics, and enjoyed his visit out west (which he took with his parents and grandfather, so he wasn't just giving them lip service).
They could be the shocker at the end of it all, but I think you've sized things up pretty well Knight..
