Our defense should be insane in a couple years. I really hope the Corwin can translate all this talent into on-field production.

This recruiting class is insane!!! Welcome to the Irish Blanton!!!

His video shows that he has great field awareness and is not easily fooled by plays designes for misdirection.

I don't think this has been posted.....

South Bend Tribune

Lemming is totally underrating this guy...

"He's an excellent cover corner because of those long arms and that burst and that back pedal," said CSTV recruiting analyst Tom Lemming, who ranks Blanton as a five-star player, his highest ranking. "He's the kind of guy that can stay with those tall wide receivers, something that Notre Dame has been desperately looking for -- a tall corner with speed."

Lemming views Blanton as one of the top six corners in the country. He further strengthens a defensive recruiting group that now numbers eight players. In addition to Blanton, Lemming ranks defensive commits Omar Hunter (nose tackle) and Darius Fleming (linebacker) as five-star recruits.

---I cant disagree though I think Omar and Darius should be 5 stars. Darius would be a 5 star for a DE/OLB hybrid and Omar as a nosetackle. Either way Lemming is a good man.

I like Lemming as a guy, I really do. He doesn't come off as having a mean streak, nor does he hound guys with interviews quite like certain guys who frequent rivals. But as an analyst... Tom's ratings drive me absolutely bonkers. Its bad enough that he consistently gives an ND player 1 more star than everyone else does (Clelland, Hunter, Blanton, Fleming, Crist all got 5 stars) but Hafis Williams got 2 more stars than the rest of the world, with a 5 star rating as well (at least at first). Not to knock Hafis, but where does he get that from? I dunno. Bigger fish to fry I guess, but he gives other fan bases fits with his rankings/bias, and I must say with good reason.

'It really just felt like me' - NCAA Football - Yahoo! Sports

"(Coach Brown) was a great guy," Blanton said. "We had a lot of great personal conversations besides football and I got a feel for him as a person. I got a great feel for him as a football coach too being down here for spring practice and now. He's real honest and straight to the point. I like that. He'll tell you when you're not working hard and I like that as well."

WOW, Blantons step dad laying the lumber on MICHIGAN on Scout......I'm ASSUMING it's him pretty awesome stuff.......check it out........

after reading the many comical post i couldn't help myself. i'll try to help a few on here that seem to have some sense. where do i start? michigan was NEVER his favorite school. of course he was excited about it because it was HIS FIRST OFFER! many people (especially your coaching staff) figured it was a wrap because he attented your camp for two years, his position coach whom he LOVES, has a friend on the staff. He's been in RJ's ear since he was a freshman about Michigan. Jamar Adams is an alum of his high school. So as you can see a lot of things in Michigan's favor.

First and foremost, for whatever reason he didn't get a good feel either time he camped there. I didn't even know this until we were on an unofficial at VT. I didn't ask him specifics because it didn't matter to me. Personally Michigan is one of my two favorite schools. My oldest son was born in Muskegon, but that's another story. No I'm not from there, born and raised in W Baltimore. Here is the deal plain and simple. Yes RJ had many offers, but only two schools recruited him, ND and VT. The wife and I favored VT and gave them an unfair advantage and they still blew it. (close to us) The bottom line is Corwin Brown got in his ear and it was a wrap plain and simple. I even emailed coach Gray and Sherman and told them if RJ had to commit today it would be ND. I told them I wasn't trying to tell them how to do their job, but if they wanted RJ they better step it up because CB was killing them. They asked what was he doing and I told them he's in his ear, or text every day. Coach Gray said he didn't like to hound recruits, I didn't say anything, I just left it alone. I said to myself if the dad told you he would commit to a guy that was in his ear everyday, then obviously he doesn't feel he's being hounded.

Other than Coach Sherman (cool guy, my wife loves him) and coach Gray I hadn't had any contact with a coach. When RJ told me coach Brown wanted to talk to me I was surprised. We talked for a little, and he mentioned something about texting me. I told him man I don't have time to be texting you, besides I don't even have it on my phone, I'd never texted before. He asked how was we going to establish a relationship? Well he started texting my wife and guess what she did? She got texting on MY PHONE!

Funny thing is, after a while, I found myself texting HIM to shoot the breeze. Keep in mind we NEVER talked about RJ, although i know many of you will find that hard to believe. The ONLY time we did was when he asked me what the holdup was with RJ committing? He told me up front that he was going to use RJ to bring in other kids, and I understood where he was coming from.

Now on to the fun stuff. Do you clowns (I'm talking ONLY of the ones who made stupid, uninformed comments about my son who obviously they know NOTHING about) So you think booboo scared him off? That's what I mean by UNINFORMED. They were at the SAME CAMP only ONE left with an offer and it sure as hell wasn't boo boo, so who do you think is the better prospect? He didn't get an offer until he got mvp at the combine in TX.

Another silly post I read was he didn't have the hips and whatever to be a D1 corner. I'm sure you're NOT an evaluator of talent because EVERY school is recruiting him as a DB including yours truely so again talk what you know. He plays in the toughest and best conference in the state. He ALWAYS matches up against the other teams BEST wideout and ALWAYS comes out on top. Ok, one time Hakeem Nicks destroyed his entire backfield one game. Let me give you an example of the type of player he is. After that game, (they were scheduled to play again the next week I believe, same conference, also you have to go through them to get to states) he went to his position coach and told the coach to let him play Nicks MAN TO MAN! Keep in mind I'm talking about a SOPHOMORE going up against a SENIOR. RESULTS? FOUR CATCHES, NO TOUCHDOWNS (he had three or four the previous game can't remember) NO BIG PLAYS. Same thing last year. Same team, different receiver last year. (Jason Barnes) Played him man to man and SHUT HIM DOWN. For those that may not know, Independence is the school with the nations longest winning streak. Well RJ DROPPED three sure picks. I told him if he hangs on to ONE, they probably win the game. They were up 21-0 and got the ball first in the second half. Again, played Indy a week or so later, and for some dumb reason, they play a zone and Barnes destroyed them. HE DROPPED two sure TD's.

For those of you who favor Spencer Adams, I have a little news for you. He's the THIRD best DB on the team. Eddie is the second best and it's not even close. People see his speed and automatically think he's a good football player. I'm not "hateing" on him because they're all my boys, I've been watching them for three years. Someone said the staff was higher on Spencer anyway? Yeah right. Spencer was at the camp also, did he get an offer before leaving? NO. Again, I hate to burst your bubble, but SPENCER IS NOT GOING TO UM. you can take that to the bank!

One final parting shot. As I said, RJ has been to your camp two years in a row. You were his first offer. We've never heard from any wolverine coaches. Well about a couple of weeks ago we get a call from coach English. Guess what he said? He wanted to introduce himself to us since he was recruiting our kid. HUH? WTF? It's a little late for that don't you think? You mean to tell me this guy has been to your camp two years straight (and it sure as hell isn't cheap), you've offered him, and you want to establish a relationship with his parents NOW? NEWSFLASH, Corwin Brown has been entrenched in that foxhole for a long time now, good luck getting him out. I know a lot of it is sour grapes that he not only didn't go to UM, but he went to a hated rival. But yall clowns need to stop dissing kids that choose a school other than yours, it's childish, but then again, I expect that from these forums.

Oh yeah, before I forget, RJ wasn't promised ANYTHING, especially playing time. Yes he knows their defense sucked, but THAT'S NOT WHY HE CHOOSE ND. Beside's Corwin, I think his teachers had a part in it. Whenever he mentioned ND, they all mentioned the education aspect (naturally being teachers) My son is an excellent player, but he's even a BETTER person. I assure you, you will NEVER hear about him in a negative way, so you guys can continue to hate on him if that makes you feel better.

I'll leave you with this, his mother asked did anyone promise him a starting position (the clowns on here are not the first to think that) he said "NO, you can't do that, what if you SUCK when you get there?"

You should have seen the rants he used to go on in the 4HL.

I just hope he doesn't turn into an overly involved parent like Mitch Mustain's mom.

And as usual, they're now saying how they would rather have Cissiko, and Warren instead of having RJ as a commit. It doesn't matter to me who they end up with, I think CB is going to have a top 10 D before long anyway. They can get hyped over their recuits all they want, English proved that with top talent, Michigan still got stomped by Southern Cal, and gave up a ton of points and yardage to tOSU.

Big goals for Blanton

By Pete Sampson, IrishIllustrated.com Editor – Rivals.com

As Notre Dame hit the practice field, one of its top commitments started hitting.

And for cornerback Robert Blanton, those full pads couldn't have come soon enough. The Notre Dame pledge opened fall camp last week with his Butler teammates, but Monday was when the talented Bulldogs strapped it up for good.

"We get to see who's a man out there and who's a sissy," Blanton said. "We just want to get out there and ball."

Blanton can't wait to help Butler improve on last year's 12-3 mark, the best season in the program's history. On paper, Butler has the talent to do it with Blanton and two other top defensive backs on the roster in Eddie Whitley, a Virginia Tech commitment, and four-star safety Spencer Adams, who holds offers from Florida, Georgia, Miami and Michigan. Quarterback Jacob Charest, who holds offers from Oregon, Louisville, Illinois and Iowa, should test that secondary in practice on a daily basis.

Topping last season's record, however, may have little to do with the skill spots. According to Blanton, Butler's biggest gains might be found in the trenches.

"Our defensive line and offensive line are playing the best I've ever seen them," Blanton said.

Getting better up front on both sides of the ball might be the only way Butler makes a run at a state championship with Charlotte's powerful Independence program nearby. The Patriots dropped the Bulldogs twice last season including a 49-23 setback in the playoffs. Independence went on to capture its sixth straight title and extend the nation's longest winning streak to 108 games.

Despite those statistics, Blanton had no problem predicting a Butler victory this time.

The two teams meet on Nov. 2.

"They've got to play us, so they've got to lose," Blanton said. "To go undefeated and win state, that's one thing we can do to make this the best season at Butler ever."

The same probably won't be said of Notre Dame at the end of this season, but Blanton plans to help the Irish program return to championship heights once he gets to campus for good. Blanton said he spoke with Corwin Brown over the weekend for a pre-season update. The cornerback also keeps in touch with Braxston Cave, Brandon Newman and Jamoris Slaughter.

Blanton plans to officially visit Notre Dame for the USC game on Oct. 20.

While Blanton said there's nobody on the recruiting board that he's desperate to add to the Irish roster, he did say there will be plenty of expectations when his class arrives a year from now. Rivals.com ranks Notre Dame at No. 1 overall for the recruiting class of 2008.

"It's great right now," Blanton said. "There's a lot of people talking about us. We're going to have to step in and back it up."

Considering Blanton has already helped Butler to the best season in the team's history and has his sights set on ending the nation's longest high school winning streak, backing up a little Notre Dame hype should be no big deal. Like any good defensive back, Blanton carries a confidence that's hard to miss. His Butler teammates probably felt some of it this week when Blanton delivered his first big hit of training camp.

That's Mr. Blanton to you

Notre Dame recruit Robert Blanton wasted little time setting the tone for his senior campaign. Here are some short snippets from game one:

If anyone in the stadium didn't know of Butler's All-State defensive back and Notre Dame signee Robert Blanton, they did after the first half. With a kickoff return for a touchdown, an interception, a couple tackles on punt coverage and a catch where he smoothly bounced off a defender, Blanton's name was about every other word out of the speakers.

--------

Senior defensive back Robert Blanton, however, set the tone. After Charest threw an interception deep in Butler territory on the first series, North Meck would score two plays later on a 9-yard Xavier Joplin run. Blanton needed about 10 seconds to erase that deficit, when he took the ensuing kickoff 96 yards for the touchdown.

Somebody over at Rivals said they heard a rumor about him visiting Michigan and CW having a talk with him about it. I know it's just a rumor, but is there any truth to it? Not trying to start a fire, I was just wondering how true it was.

----Considering his step dad posts there and by what he has said about Michigan recruiting him and that Ron Englished finally started recruiting RJ AFTER he committed to us, his step dad was like are you serious? Get out of here. I don't see it at all.
