Maybe it's just me but after watching video of Fauria he comes off as a taller version of John Carlson. He's going to need to get tougher and stronger and he will with another year of HS and being behind all the other stud TE's that ND has but when it's all said in done I think he will be bigger taller version of John Carlson.

Not this time, I thought there would be a really good chance he might be Irish at some point, but not nesicarily this weekend. In the latest VC thread we did have an IM quote from Fleming that he would be commiting soon along with some info about a possible QB transfer though.

Pretty impressive to get that on Fleming. But info on a possible QB transfer????? How about I leave the VC payment in cash under the trashcan behind my house, in an unmarked envelope, and one of you dresses as my landlord and comes to pick it up?

allright thats all i was really wonderin is if he is 4 star material...thanks

If you're looking for rankings 'reassurance', he is 39th on Scout's West Top100; I would expect him to be a 4* (prob both Scout and Rivals)...fwiw

I somehow doubt that his uncle having played for Coach Weis got him an offer; I think that Belichik's kid would need to be a good prospect in order to get an offer.

Coach Weis has said it before, and Coach Brown said it great last week:

".....don't care about star ratings" "Give me the dudes that want to play"

Well said. "FWIW" indeed. All I need to know is that our staff saw fit to extend him an offer -- it's national championships we're after, not recruiting titles, and there's a reason that Charlie Weis is in the business of the former while Mike Frank & Co. are stuck handing out the latter.

It would be more fair to say, "Fasano, Carlson, Reuland, Yeatman, Ragone, Rudolph, Fauria".

WOW could ND actually fill its roster any quicker. I do not recall anytime in the past several years having this many recruits of this calibur already committed. 6'9" TE and he will most likely sit a year and learn, very good deal.

It's nice to have some of these guys because ND now building up quality depth that a player Fauria's ability won't be counted on for a couple of years allowing to build and shape his body and game into the best it can be before being counted on.

NEWSFLASH: FAURIA SCHOLARSHIP TO NOTRE DAME
Junior Tight End Joseph Fauria gave a verbal commitment to play football for the University of Notre Dame. Fauria and his mother, Julie, recently made an unofficial visit to Notre Dame and attended the Blue/Gold Spring Football game for the Irish. While on campus, Joseph met with Coach Charlie Weis who offered Fauria a scholarship last week. Fauria gave his commitment to be a member of the Irish football team in 2008 on Saturday, April 21. Fauria was a first-team All-Serra League selection this past season and is considered by Scout.com as a Top-15 tight end in the country. Fauria also had offers from UCLA, LSU, Stanford, Nebraska, Colorado, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Oregon.

He's not as talented as Rudolph but will get there with time he's big too 6-9 man. He's gonna be a red zone threat I think. Charlie got himself a pair of great TE's.

he's actually not 6-9. mike frank did an interview with him on power hour a few weeks back and fauria claimed that not to be his height. i think he said he was 6-7, but you'd have to listen to find that out for sure.

Yeah he stated on Power Hour weeks ago he was definently not 6-8 or 6-9, but that he was 6-7 maybe 6-7 1/2. Everyone sleeps on him because he's in the shadow of Rudolph. But let me tell you this, he plays a very tough schedule and watching his film I noticed A) If the kid can get low and block that good on HS undersized lineman im pretty sure he can get under 6-5 D-Ends in college. B) Catches everything that comes his way (On others having seen him and evaluated him say he's got Glue hands.) and not on film observation... C) Has a great ND attitude and work ethic.

Irishknight1023 I completely agree and with all the talent that ND has at TE they can take there time with him. He's got insanely good hands and has good not great speed but has great footwork. Time is on his side to toughen up and get stronger but he's a guy that everybody expects to get taller and bigger and while he most likely will never be in the class of talent of Reuland, Ragone and Rudolph but he will be a damn good player that will be a Red Zone monster.

Q&A with Joseph Fauria...

BlueandGold.com // Q&A: Joseph Fauria

BGI: Some people speculate that you might eventually become a tackle because of your size. Would you ever be interested in that?
JF: No. If people know who the Mackey Award winner was last year, Matt Spaeth from Minnesota, he was 6-7, 270. He did pretty well at tight end. If that doesn't answer the (tackle) question, I don't know what will.

-----Maybe that can quiet the people that keep saying he'll be an OT and sleep on his TE skills.

Well theres only 3 teams that could've done this...

BGI: Not that you would mention names or details, but was there any negative recruiting against Notre Dame?
JF: I did have a couple. Some teams that beat Notre Dame last year mentioned that, and some even had the nerve to get at me after I committed...but I didn't listen to it. I know I made the right choice

-------LSU had extended an offer, you can bet they were one. USC wasn't really recruiting him so I don't think it was them. I know Harbaugh visited him and Crist after they committed to us so you can bet he badmouthed us...but who knows. All in all it looks like we don't have to be worried about losing this one. He doesn't get shaken from ND struggles, he's an ND kid through and through.

"Name one word to describe you - really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really"

Of course, he wasnt limited to how many times he could use that one word.

Since Nick can't post here for the time being I figued I'd go ahead and post his Joseph Fauria interview on here.

****Unedited version cuz i got lazy

1) What were the reasons you committed to Notre Dame?

- i comitted to Notre Dame for many different reasons. One was that i have been a ND follower since i was little. i even have a preschool picture of me wearing a Notre Dame T-shirt. On my visit to ND (first time) i was sold on everything ND has to offer. the campus, the academics, the Tradition, and of course, the great coaching staff, football program, and life after football oppurtunities. In the end, the reason why i chose ND was because it was the best place for ME!

2) Did knowing Dayne Crist help you decide on ND at all?

- Big 'D' likes to think i committed to Notre Dame all because he committed there, and although it is not the whole reason...i did tell dayne that the similar offers that we had would be more appealing. Also, he knew that wherever he committed, that would make me think of that school a little more.

3) How do you think you can contribute in the next few years?

- rite now i am focusing on my senior year,(dont like to look to far in the future). But i can say that when i get there, i want to become the best Tight End i can be.

4) What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses?

- one of my greatest assets is catching the ball. i also take alot of pride in my blocking. overall, there is alot of room to improve in every aspect of my game, and me being a very competitive player, i will never settle for mediocrity. Because i want to be the best.

5) Who was your second school and why?

- i didnt really have a second school(because none compare to ND). But some schools that were very close were: Oregon, Stanford, Ucla and Cal

6) How was the spring game visit for you? What was your favorite part about it?

- the spring game visit was a great experience. being that it was my first time at Notre Dame, it was great meeting all of my future teammates and getting to experience the ND tradition first hand. proabably the best part of the game was hanging with my future teammates and watching the TEs getting the ball alot.

7) Have you watched any tapes of how Weis utilizes the tight ends into his game plan? What were your thoughts on that?

- i haven't really watched any tapes, but i have watched games, especially because my uncle played for him, and i love how he uses the TE

8) What are your favorite things to do outside of football?

- i play basketball, and sometimes volleyball. when im not in season for football, im working out. i like music, and being with my friends, and enjoying the high school experience

I saw a video of him at a camp a few weeks back and he catches the ball very well. He has nice soft hands and he's the type that can go up high and get the ball because he catches with his hands.

Having two tight ends at 6' 7" makes me more anxious to see how dominating the team is going to be in a couple years.
