That's really not insanely strong. Look at 2008 DT Mike Martin or even 2009 DT John Simon. Both bench over 400. Simon is only a junior and its been rumored he did 465.

Regarding Baldwin being recruited as a TE...

I don't know many TEs who are 6'6" with 80 inch reaches who jump 43 inches. Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez, maybe, but that is about it.

There is not a tight end in the NFL that has a 43 inch Vertical.

Baldwin is a WR/TE... not a DT, thats why i thought it was insanely strong, not in general, just for somebody who is a WR or a TE

Here's a recent article on Joseph, from the LA Daily News.

Lately, Crespi has been lining him as a receiver to take advantage.

He's just a giant receiver. The guy has such great control of his body. I can't wait for his playing days at ND.

Wait, didn't you know the best position for him is OT.

Honestly, if it is legal (and I have no idea) line him up as an eligible OT with Rudolph and Ragone capping the ends of the line. Talk about a 'what happened' moment for a D coordinator (Pitt '05)

After a couple of very good defensive serieses Crespi scores first to take the lead 7-0. Fauria is also doing the long snapping.

Joe just scored on a 40 TD catch, but got a 15 yrd penalty for diving into the endzone.

Crespi leads Mater Dei 14-0.

Joe just made a great heads-up play and broke up a bad pass that would have been an INT in the endzone.

Joe and his parents picked up a visit from CW on Sunday night. He said the highlight of the visit was when he found out he wouldn't have to do his own laundry. While he won't probably make it to the banquet he plans on making another trip to SB shortly after his season ends.

From an article on a Stanford site about last week's Crespi-Mater Dei game:

Joseph Fauria is a real good-looking player. He has true tight end size at 6'7" and 250 lbs. He is not a "tweener". In the scout evaluation his blocking ability, size and ability in the red zone are noted strength while his running ability is highlighted for improvement. From the performance in this game, I have to conclude the running ability may have been associated with a young guy adjusting to growth. He had two touchdowns against Mater Dei on passes of 23 & 40 yards. The second was principally yards after the catch. In a straight-line race to the end zone the DB's were unable to close significantly on Fauria. On the defensive side of the ball he was effective as a run-stuffer using athletic ability to make life difficult for the bigs on the Mater Dei line. In addition, he used his height to block at least one Barkley pass. Fauria comes from a strong gene pool with an uncle (Christian) that has had a long NFL career as a tight end.

I've met his uncle before. He gave me ten bucks when I was a little kid because I could spell his last name right.

You got money for being a good speller? :rotflmao:
I know I've seen you post a dozen times about how bad a speller you are. You must have been on your game that day. :)

How many tries did he give you GG?

Once, it was at a football camp organized by Rick Mirer when I was a little kid. There were a ton of big name NFL and ND guys there that week and some of the kids were asking him who he was because they didn't reconize him, so he told them who he was, but some of the kids were still confused or couldn't pronounce his name so he said he'd give ten bucks if they could guess how to spell it. Luckly for me he was with the Seahawks at the time and since Rick was there my dad had ordered NFL Sunday Ticket when it was still new so knew who he was and I saw his name every week.

GG, you've seen Fauria play on TV, right? Is he as good as I'm getting the sense he is? (I.e., very, very, VERY good?)

You mean the score was 2-0? You mean the only points were on a safety? That's my highschool. Course it's changed a bit since I left.

I would have gone to watch if I knew my HS was playing them. I'm kinda the blacksheep, they don't keep me informed any more.

Yep, Poly beat OL 2-0. OL had the ball inside the 1 yrd line twice, one of which was in the final min of the game, but the fumbled both times. I believve USC commit Blake Ayles only had one catch.

Yeah I've watched him play on TV. The impression I get is that he can be a very solid college TE. It's hard to tell since Crespi doesn't throw to him that much but I don't think he has the speed to be a game breaker at the college level. I think that he'll make a good tough blocker, as well a big possession type target that would be great in redzone situations or intermediate routes.

I'm going to try to watch his game against LB Poly next week if I can.
