He's got obvious NFL upside for a fairly underrated recruit.
Yep, he has a ton of work to do reshaping body and adding on muscle. But yes, high upside. Only 270 lbs at that height. But I think he'll have an easier time than wagner putting on good weight.

Knapp does too at 266. He's athletic, tough, mean, but not sure how much good weight he can add. Maybe really only center only? Need road graders that can move at guard in the modern game.

Where did we get this information that Prescod is starting?

(I have nothing against the concept but it would be a whirlwind ascendancy.)

CJ responded to a question talking about his O-Line and said "we got some retunring guys like Knapp and Craig and Guerby...Some new guys as well like Black and Styles"

It's a good thing.

They have a huge guy, Absher, than can play but has a clear athletic ceiling. Then they have a bunch of other guys who have very high ceilings, like Prescod, who don't have experience.

I love the fact that they are determined to make sure they aren't overlooking anyone and are giving their depth a real shot.

Well, fine, but I can interpret CJs comment as simply flubbing a mention of Abshur when he ran down the vets (Knapp, Craig, Lambert) ... hesitated, gathered his thoughts and added the two newer guys, i.e. the "six" guys in the hunt to be on the field. I'll wait. We win either way. I was very impressed with the few reps Prescod got in the practice game. But I watched CJ's body language and sentence-hesitation just at that point, and there's not a "proof" for me yet there.

Prescod was a composite 4 star by the end of the cycle with offers from Bama, Michigan, PSU, and Tennessee before he shut it down. We recruit OL so well that guys like him get lost in the shuffle, but being a "serviceable" starter as a Junior really shouldnt be that big of a surprise.

That being said, i didnt really think he had the build to be an effective IOL. We'll see.

Wasn't he recruited as an IOL? Seems like he was out of position at OT.

No, he was definitely recruited as an OT. He was very athletic and was recruited as tackle when ND needed tackles. But that shelf has been restocked. He'd have to pass guys like Black and Lambert to play out there.

Absher started the last half the season last year so the only way the right guard position is worse than that stretch is if the coaches are wrong.

I had to look this up and I'm shocked that this is correct. 5x starts over the latter part of the season and participation in every game.

To me, the big issue I see is that there is seemingly no way that they tried all of this hijinx to replace someone with his experience unless he was stinking up the joint. Like it is baffling they've tried ~4x OL combinations and he ends up in an "or" situation with someone who weeks ago wasn't even on the radar. The odds of that being because they just discovered Prescod is randomly an NFL level IOL seem slim to none.

Anyways, one would hope that at minimum he is assignment sound, and I would assume he gets the nod over Prescod but I guess weirder things have happened.

Joe Alt was LT4 in 2021 and ended up being the best o-lineman in ND history 🤷🏻‍♂️

Prescod and Augustine for that matter are both younger than Absher and staff has always been pretty positive at both’s ability at OT so I don’t think a big leap in his third year is outlandish. Clearly they didnt even entertain either could be Will Black though for example. Hopefully that was just a high bar to clear

Unless there is an injury, we know how Absher plays. He's not great but he doesn't stink.

And this isn't new. Absher was always seen as a placeholder for Jagusah. With Lambert sliding out they gave Augustine a shot and he was going to take the spot. With Augustine out of the way, I bet Prescod (who was seen as OT only) was given a shot and did well.

With all this conjecture, I have a feeling a "Who's on First" routine is about to break out.

It goes without saying that there is a difference between being buried as a true freshman OL for the start of the season and immediately breaking through when given the opportunity VERSUS not sniffing the starting lineup for 2 years (while ND had some super mediocre OL play at times) and not being given a shot in fall camp over a guy a year younger than you [presumably because you were playing worse not because you kicked Rudolph's dog].

Just seems more likely that Absher is not doing well vs Prescod is some sort of revelation and about to ball out. But weirder things have happened.

Seems like a really hyperbolic description of a RS Sophomore. Dude has 3 years of eligibility left and you’re acting like he woke up a grad student from the dorms to play RG

He’s also one that needed a S&C year or two big time

EDIT: also missed significant time due to injury to start career. This was his first healthy offseason
