Put about 50-55 hours in this little game Monster Sanctuary recently.
Heavy, heavy Super Metroid feels
Heavy Pokemon feels.

This game plays like a Metroidvania in how you navigate the map and how you unlock new areas with abilities (Abilities you gain from collecting monsters). The big difference from Super Metroid: the combat isn't Action based, it's turn based Pokemon style with battles involves 3 vs. 3 monsters. You collect eggs to hatch new monsters as you fight. You level up the monsters, allowing you to choose new abilities and Passive bonuses to tailor your monsters however you like. You can build teams that play off each other's strengths, like a team of 3 Goblins that share extra bonuses, or you can mix and match. You can also get eggs from boss fights depending on how well you do (You get ranked on performance 1-5 stars, a 5 star match will always yield a boss egg and you can refight bosses back at the main base).

There's 111 monsters you can collect, each has different abilities and build types: tank, healer, damage, buffer, debuffer, etc. Most monsters can fill 1-3 builds or more depending on how you build them, but obviously focusing on 1-2 roles is typically better than spreading out too thinly.
There's a simple plot, not a ton of dialogue or complex characters. There's a lot of secret walls you can find, plenty of treasure chests hidden around (Including some you can't access until you unlock new abilities, also very Metroid-like). If you enjoy a Metroid-like platformer and/or Pokemon, this is a fun little game for cheap. The 16-bit sprites are a nice touch too, as is the SNES like soundtrack.

One nice thing this game has that Super Metroid didn't have: you can put little icons with notes on the map so you can remember where to come back if you missed something you couldn't access yet. Really helps my old ass, and I wish I knew you could do that before I got halfway through the game

Ok so wife is still playing Zelda and still needs tons of help and,… I fucking hate these games lol. The buttons are all backwards from a typical game of this kind and way too clunky and almost everything after the first couple areas one hit kills you,… fuck. This. Game. I shelled out new game money for oblivion remastered for her, please pray for me that she likes that better.

What in the world is going on with Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement?? There has been nothing since, like February. Are they just going to drop it without announcing a release date??

I was literally thinking last night that I might want to replay Witcher 3 again, for the third time.

Same. Very interested to see how large this new expansion is. I think common sentiment is that it will be fairly small and is just a tease for Witcher IV, but there's a part of me that can't help but expect that it's going to surprise people by being much larger/longer than expected. I think the fact that they are going to be charging for it backs up my feeling. If it was just a seven hour Witcher IV teaser I think they'd be putting it into Witcher 3 for free with the remaster.

I imagine the remastered will come with the Blood and Wine etc?? If so that's honestly good enough for me.

just started replaying Witcher 3 recently enough actually, its still fun but some quests are a slog (bloody baron dead baby)

The whole Bloody Baron quest line is a major "bounce off" moment for people playing the game. I'd be willing to bet that most players who didn't finish the game stopped there and that most players who get through that questline go on to beat the whole thing. Having the Bloody Baron and the Keira quests (both the long cave/dungeon and the island with the rats) at the same time brings the narrative to a crawl for a long time.

yeah definitely and then if you made the wrong decisions/outcomes with the Baron and then go the Crones it gets even worse, i could see a lot of folks tapping out there and then

As long as GTAVI isn't delayed again...

Anyhow, I just got a new PC and am firing up my old Paradox games. What do y'all play on the PC?
I get that... honestly, for me, knowing I'm on an island... if I could get Bloodstained, Castlevania, and NHL right now,... you could delay GTA another year.

I didn't know Elon Musk was on this board.

I actually upgraded my PC earlier this year and got a new OLED monitor so I'm future-proof for at least the next 5-10 years regardless of what shenanigans happen with the next wave of consoles. I'm probably going to pull the trigger on Star Wars Zero Company soon based on how that's reviewing.
