IF he does pull the trigger for ND, I think we start putting the pressure on Bell that we only have one spot left.

THIS.

i can admit that i, irish fam, am a star gazer

Yeah, I'm guilty also. I'm a star gazer for certain positions for sure. Maybe to a fault. Those positions are QB, WR, and DL. For LB and RB I'm sorta undecided as I can be partial to "fit" or sick highlights or stars depending on the guy.

For DBs and OLs especially I just want as many quality guys with the right physical traits as possible. I really think quantity over "quality" wins in recruiting these positions because there is such a huge adjustment between covering crappy HS WRs vs. covering elite college WRs as well as blocking shrimpy HS DLs vs. blocking strong, big and athletic college DLs. You just really don't know who is going to adapt to the next level and who is going to flop.

You see routinely with DBs that lowly rated "athletes" with good builds and good 40 times blow up in college with the right coaching.

Football Recruiting - Josh Robinson - Player Profiles - ESPN

Scout.com: Alfonzo Dennard Profile

The list goes on and on... and while there are also plenty of Dre Kirkpatricks out there who were #1 style recruits and then dominated in college, I think it's very telling that 4 out of the top 7 corners (including the #1 guy) projected to go in the draft this year were all basically unrated players.

So with the depth issues we have... IMO sign up a CB class like our safety class last year... lots of capable bodies even if no headliners in star rating. I'll be happy to add Butler even if I'm not the biggest fan of his film and VERY happy if/when we add Tre Bell.

Great post man. Those rankings are histerical with the luxury of looking back on them after their college careers. I try to always watch the film and look at the offer list rather than just judge on stars and make my own judgement, but it is especially nice to see 4-5 stars next to the name of an ND commit

Rankings and stars don't mean everything. It's really all about good coaching and player development which is something ND has been lacking for years.

...

Ok. You got.

I'm a skeptic of you're teaching.

Transcendentalismextraterrestrial is a neat concept, but come on.

Clue me in.

"Butler was supposed to announce may 12 but has pushed up to April 11 when school starts again. My guess is #NotreDame but we'll find out"

Agreed. We should keep the same level of "push" on him as our biggest competition, if someone steps is recruitment up, so do we. Need his recruitment to last till 2013 and keep him away from other programs

If the staff has learned anything from last year, they will.

Offer lists are greater than stars will ever be, and the system a team runs will have an impact on its on personal board and that outweighs any website or rank.

Except that (with the excpetion of the SEC and over-recruiting), depth charts can scew which teams do/don't offer. So offer lists are not everything either. Therein lies the importance of rankings.

And u aren't? Doubt it

PROPS ^^^^

The right kind of guys in my book, are the ones with the most stars next to their name. And I would take Devin Butler at any time during this recruiting cycle.

I hope TP is right!!!!

I know we need some DB's and I fully trust the staff, but is this guy under the radar? He has a lot of mid level offers for the 40+rated athlete. I just don't want another example of we don't have room for the the 5th bet OT but continue to load up on 3stars.

Irishman77, Happy Palm Sunday! This kid is a great player. 2 months ago we signed a class of 16. We aren't even half way through spring practice, and have 10 commits. We will take Devin Butler even if we have to cut Jake Golic The "Echoes are Awakening Boys!" Go Irish

Don't get caught up in rankings in April. He has some very good offers especially from teams that typically have very good defenses.

If he did commit, this is great news! Like this young man's game and we need him.

you guys are right. wrong thread and bad timing to bring up how badly I want D.Johnson. If Kelly and staff pushed that hard for Mr. Butler that should tell me everything I need to know.

d@mn kid doesn't have a Twitter. I can't tweet him to confirm he has committed... must.tweet.at.all.recruits... they will obviously listen to me about where to go to school! I'm so important!
