And that is 11 four star recruits. Not 3 star or less. I have serious doubts that we land 9 guys in the span of the weekend following Jr. Day.

Remember how last year I insisted Michigan's class was just "very good" because they didn't land many super elite 5:s: caliber prospects?

Well this class is downright insane so far. Incredible talent they are pulling in right now.

I don't think we ever have.

If we somehow go 10-2. This is us next year. All about winning

One down year doesn't make much difference to a USC or a Michigan. To us, this past year could have kept us out of the BCS for the next decade.

Perhaps the greatest overstatement I've ever read on the Internet. The next decade???? Phenomenal. Bravo!!!

It's dangerous to have that opinion on here. Remember, it's early and we haven't had our junior day yet.

Did you even read my response to you? C'mon bro, do better than that. His opinion about our weak season hurting our recruiting is shared By MOST on here. Read a little more before you go trying to insult members' intelligence here. Weak.

Not insulting anybody's intelligence bro, don't know where you got that from. I'm not trying to be emo or doom and gloom. What I was trying to get at earlier is that we currently are struggling at recruiting and when someone points that out, they get put on blast for it. If someone says Michigan out-recruited us last year, they're quickly hit with the "michigan's class was all quantity, not quality" BS. If someone says Michigan and OSU are out-recruiting us this year, they get labeled a pessimist and told to wait until junior day or that there is a long time to go. We are getting dominated by those teams in our own backyard. We had a poor finish to this past class, a slow start to this year's class, and an almost non-existent recruiting presence in the Midwest. We should be a little pissed off. We don't need to be ridiculed when we post an opinion different from your own.

I don't think that that can be argued right now, but some of you guys are blowing things out of proportion.

It's when guys start acting like there's no way we can beat Michigan ever again that they get labeled a pessimist.

True, and I'm by no means saying that we can't beat Michigan. We should have beaten them three years in a row and there's no reason we can't finish the job this year. What I was saying, along with numerous other people, is that we're being out-recruited. That's not being a pessimist. By no means am I a pessimist. I believe that we can still have a very good recruiting class, we're just not off to a good start regardless of when junior day is or how long is left til signing day. The notion that when someone gives a verbal this early, they're merely picking a leader and not committing, is one that we've grown accustomed to because we have been burned by it many times. That's something that has to change. We need to get our commits to stick.

I'm excited about this team and think we can have a really good year. I'm excited about the kids we have and watching them perform.

This thread has been hijacked long enough. Back to the Michigan Man.

you are not doing a very good job then

If someone says Michigan out-recruited us last year, they're quickly hit with the "michigan's class was all quantity, not quality" BS.

but its true, I would take our current class (without Neal) over UM's 2012 class any day. Scout.com: Football Recruiting<--- Avg star ranking (last column), 247sports has us above UM and Rivals has us just below UM, which includes Notre Dame's 2* #1 long snapper in the country. Notre Dame's 2012 class > UM's 2012 class.

If someone says Michigan and OSU are out-recruiting us this year, they get labeled a pessimist and told to wait until junior day or that there is a long time to go.

I would agree with you here somewhat, though it happened to us this year, so it shouldnt surprise you. We lost 4 "high star" athletes by the time Feb 1 came around and we never had that big of a class to begin with. At least one of the 10 commits UM picked up recently will decommit, its too soon for these kids.

We are getting dominated by those teams in our own backyard. We had a poor finish to this past class, a slow start to this year's class, and an almost non-existent recruiting presence in the Midwest.

This is what irritates me. We need to lock-down top athletes from Indiana, which is why I am glad we got Gunner Kiel and in the running for Jaylon Smith in 2013. If we dont get Jaylon Smith, I will be disappointed (unless for some odd reason Levenbery (spelling) commits to us before Jaylon Smith, but even then I would still like to think 2 top LBs would be awesome). Notre Dame has to lockdown the Indiana border, especially with all these 5* and 4* recruits emerging from Central and Northern Indiana.

You absolutely are insulting our intelligence. Someone wrote this:

the negative momentum of this past year's finish is clearly carrying over into the 2013 offseason, this is a fact.

And you responded with this:

C'mon dude, that's friggin' ridiculous. Almost everyone agrees that our horrible year is contributing to a slow recruiting start of the year. Seriously, who is arguing that??? But yet you're saying it's dangerous to have that opinion around here? Like I said, that's weak, and insulting to people's intelligence.

Yes, many of us are saying it's early. Yes, many of us are saying to wait until both Jr. Days to (over)react. Heck, I'm even saying to wait until the season, because ND has to show kids that they'll be a part of a winning program. That's my opinion, and if people want to disagree, fine by me. Not ridiculing their opinions - just don't agree with their reactions. I certainly am not going to live the next 11.5 months in misery b/c Michigan kicked *** on their Jr. Day.

Also, who isn't agreeing that UM and OSU are killing us in recruiting right now? They are. What many of us are arguing, and what cannot be denied, is that recruiting is a marathon, not a sprint. What cannot be argued is that we are still a LONG way from NSD 2013. I'd much rather Michigan kick our asses in recruiting now than in February 2013. If that happens, then yeah, we're in trouble. Right now? Not overly concerned personally. It sucks big time (and I don't blame anyone for being pissed - not sure where you got that from), but again, I've seen way too many horrible days followed by outstanding says to let one bad weekend completely ruin my outlook on ND football.

That was clearly written as a joke. Sorry if you don't see it that way. I'm not going keep going back and forth with you on this. It serves no purpose and has completely derailed this thread.

I totally get that it was a joke, but it went in line with everything else you've been saying. You and I actually agree with a lot of your arguments (not all), as does the rest of the board. But you've been making it out to seem that most of the board thinks everything is rosy and that recruiting is going swimmingly well, when it's simply not the case.

That is all from me...

The meme that the the only thing that really matters is average star rating has gotten a bit out of hand. In the extreme, a class of one four star recruit would rank as among the best classes in the country, in spite of being pretty terrible.

If scUM had refused commitments from all the 3 star players on Scout's list, they would have had a class of the same size as ND, but it would have consisted solely of 4 and 5 star recruits. At that point, their average star rating would crush ours, and their class would be the same size as ours. To suggest their class is worse than ours because they added 10 3 star recruits to their haul of 15 4/5 star guys is insane.

It's true that in a case like Mississippi State, the quantity vs. quality idea means a lot. They had a class of only 5 high level guys, and 19 three star dudes, but when you're using the addition of 10 three star recruits as a reason to make a class look worse (as opposed to just not adding a lot), you're doing it wrong.

In this case, with LTT, I agree the scUM class looks a bit overrated, because ultimately, they're only going to take 20-22 guys, and they're basically just recruiting at the same positions as last season. They still can't seem to get any skill position players for whatever reason, and are probably going to have to settle for lower ranked guys at RB and WR I'd bet until they can show that they can develop/utilize talent there.

It was a nice weekend for them, but only one of those guys (Bosch) was really a surprise. They just got their commitments a bit earlier than we expected. If you previously expected Michigan class to look like 14 4/5 star guys, and 8 3 star guys, then you should basically expect the same thing here. They're not going to pull 20 4/5 stars.

Some illogical and ignorant tweets to Luginbill IMO

Some illogical and ignorant tweets to Luginbill IMO

“@LoganTillman: It amazes me how players from the south get so overrated& how ESPN underrated our commits like com on we will have the #1class deal #ESPN150”

“@TomLuginbill: @LoganTillman Underrated ur commits Logan? Better check ur math dude! 11 #espn150 guys in 1st edition. ????”

“@TomLuginbill: @LoganTillman Think we would have invited u to UA game if we thought u couldn't play?”

Shane Morris had to cover him

“@S_Morris12: @TomLuginbill @logantillman we'll take what we can get Logan!!! Haha it all doesn't matter! No one knows how we will pan out in college!”

UM has the most ESPN150 commits at 11

Morris seems like a good kid. Good for him for trying to save the situation there.

ESPN does tend to favor Southern kids lol, but why not? Different types of athletes down there compared to the Midwest.

It's stupid that he's receiving threats but it's also stupid of him to post a pic of himself burning OSU mail. The kid is a bit of a DB (not defensive back).

If we had a commit doing this to USC mail, we would be overjoyed.

Would we? I wouldn't. No need to disrespect a school that extended a scholarship offer to you, even if that school is SC. We've had enough black eyes recently that we don't need a recruit adding fuel to the fire(pun not intended and just realized).
