Not bad Mike Farrell, showing ND some love

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Ask Mike: Notre Dame loaded on D-line
I was listening to Rivals radio this AM on XM and not sure who the guy was but...he was talking about recruiting. He addressed the situation about people accusing rivals of switching (by either dropping or adding) stars* when a player commits to a certain school (or de-commits). He said no way does it happen, usually what happens is that they get evaluated heavily at the all star games and their rankings are adjusted. He gave an example of an Alabama RB/LB commit that was rated a 5 star (going to Bama to play LB). After watching him in two all star games the scouts felt he just wasn't a 5 star talent. In the meantime he de-commits from Bama and wants to go to Auburn who is telling him he can play RB. So when the final rankings come out and he drops a star the Auburn fans scream foul. He said as much as fans accuse of this it just doesn't happen, that the scouts could careless where a player is going to school.
He also explained what the criteria is for handing out certain stars. He basically said a 5 star is given to players who are a can't miss NFL talent, someone who is highly likely to be playing on Sundays. 4 star is given to players who are projected to be very good, in most cases a All Conference type player-doesn't mean they won't go to the NFL, just not as for sure as a 5 star. 3 star is given to someone they feel is good enough to start on a D1 football team. 2 star is given to anyone they feel could earn a D1 football scholarship.
He also went on to talk about Tuitt and what a strange week it was for him. He said something was up, and I thought I was about to hear him claim foul on ND's part-but he didn't. His theory was that Tech was promising a spot for his HS teammate and Tuitt starting drinking that kool-aid. Then when ND came and put the full court press on made him realize what the better choice/situation was...it was a no brainer. He went on to say look out college football, if ND is blazing this trail recruiting trail on defense in year one with Kelly they will be back for sure. No question he'll get the players on offense, the big question mark was could ND ever get the talent back on the defensive side of the ball. He thinks with this defensive class things will be changing very quick in South Bend!
Maybe I should look and see who was on the air this AM on Rivals so I have a name to put with all this stuff! I'll work on that.
