The thing about the lane violation, is that it happens all the time. The refs just choose when they want to call it. Pretty much sucks.

Won't ruin my night though. This squad should be very good next year. (I hate that phrase though)

Why are refs making this great point on lane violations in the NCAA tournament. Where has this been all season.

I like how Kellogg says "the rule states you can't break the 3-point line until the ball is released" then shows the replay where the ball is clearly out of his hand and Grant is still behind the line, and then Kellogg says "yup, right call"....what the hell is the rule then?

Guys behind the three-point line have the same rule as the shooter - they can't cross the line until the ball hits the rim.

YEs you can if you get beat by the other team ok but not when you beat yourself.

The way I see it is "they were playing with house money". I'm not going to get mad, it sucks it really sucks but good things are in the future for this team.

I've never seen a team chuck the ball out of bounds in a situation where a player is running up to foul the ball carrier.... with a lead and ~30 seconds to play.

I've also never seen a situation where, shooting for the tie with a 70%+ FT shooter on the line, someone commits a lane violation. Especially when that highly publicized incident happened with UNC Asheville?

Just so disappointed right now I'm not even mad.

Call it if the player misses the shot. If the ball goes through the net on a dead ball play, Grant's movement is irrelevant.

Completely agree. Too much blame on coaches in college sports. Why Atkins made that pass no one will ever understand. Just sad, this team might have been playing with house money, but there was a real, real possibility of a sweet sixth teen birth this year. Oh well... just another day for a ND sports fan

Just saw who is coming back for ND. Damn, the state of Indiana are going to have some great teams next year. This game was a bummer. I can't believe they made that call, but it was the right one. Cooley had a hell of a game, and he did great on that disgusting ogre Frease.

I respect that, but I really think we all could care less about what we're ranked as long as we don't underachieve when it comes to the Tourney...I mean we seriously need to make a Sweet 16 run next year in order for it to be a successful year given the squad we'll have...

That was a fantastic game. The lane violation at the end of the game was bullshit. You guys will be GREAT next year and Xavier will be lucky to get in the tourney. Good luck in the future and I will check back in come football season. Go ND!

If only we could have won this game and beat 15th seed Lehigh to make the sweet 16. The momentum would have carried over soo strongly to next years team. Oh well. Maybe theyll want it more.

I really think the worst part is how great of a draw we got. I told you all Duke was quite beatable... and we didn't even have to do the dirty work ourselves. Freaking Lehigh took care of them. We were going to get to play a freaking 15 seed. Xavier was probably more of an 11 or 12 seed than a 10 seed and we played well enough to win (51% from the field, 43% from 3). We would've needed a little luck to get by Baylor and Michigan State but neither of those teams were a Kentucky or UNC in terms of sheer talent.

Oh well. Officially on to lacrosse season............

It might have been but I guarantee the same thing happens 5+ times in this game and every game in the tourney yet it is not called. Going by the rule book how is cooleys foul flagarant? Debatable if it is even a foul at all much less second worst below an ejection

Also since this ref loves the rule book when are we gonna start calling more overturning and other minor penalties

Agreed, I will put all my money on the fact that, that same lane violation happens in EVERY game but is never called. It is left to the ref to judge, which they rarely do unless they want to. Apparently this ref wanted to.

It is sad, really sad.
