I have the feeling that Nike was thinking only of the Black and Tans one gets in the pub. Their marketing and advertising departments have no sense of history or of the Irish. I have two jokes to illustrate. Though I'm sure I'll do neither justice since, though I'm Irish and have kissed the Blarney Stone – a redundancy in my case and a pain in the arse for those who suffer through my ramblings, I'm not good at remembering jokes.

1) The Black and Tan in your glass is a clear sign that the Irish are superior to the Brits. The black of the Irish Guinness rides atop the tan of of the Brit Bass Ale.

2) Danny, a 68 year old pensioner was wrapping up his day (and night) at the pub. Michael the barkeep asked him to settle his bill. Danny patted his back pocket and says "I've left me wallet at home. Put it on me tab." In response Michael says, "I'll take a cheque." Danny searches his jacket pockets and declares that he left his cheque book at home as well. "Credit Card?" "In me wallet at home." Michael then points to Paddy sitting in the back and says "Just borrow what ya owe from him." Danny indignantly retorts: "Borrow from HIM? No fokking way! The bastage stole me bike when we was six!"

The moral/point? The only thing an Irishman never forgets is a grudge ...

Bugger off, Nike.

In reference to the Nike sneakers article. Isn't it true that a real black and tan is Guinness and Bass. They state the colors represent Guinness and Harp, ( Half & Half ) Harp is another Irish beer. Correct me if I am wrong.

Oh, yeah then. I guess I am okay, too, unless I try to correct you. This whole thing is getting to be **** cray.

Here is a very old Irish joke:

This is the Modern Irish version:
Triúr manach a thug diúltú don saol.
Téann siad ins an fhásach chun aithrí a dhéanamh ina gcuid peacaí roimh Dhia.
Bhí siad gan labhairt lena chéile go ceann bliana.
Ansin dúirt fear díobh le fear eile bliain amháin ina dhiaidh sin, “Táimid go maith,” ar seisean.
Mar sin go ceann bliana.
“Is maith go deimhin,” arsa an dara fear.
Bhí siad ann ina dhiaidh sin go ceann bliana.
“Dar m’aibíd,” arsa an treas fear, “mura ligeann sibh ciúnas dom fágfaidh mé an fásach uile daoibh!”

And the English version:
Three monks turned their back on the world.
They went into the wilderness to repent their sins before God.
They did not speak to one another for a year.
At the end of the year, one of them spoke up and said, “We’re doing okay.”
Another year passed in silence.
“Yes we are,” said the second man.
And so another year passed.
“I swear by my robe,” said the third man, “if you two don’t be quiet I’m out of here!”

So.... the uniform surprise involves beer and dshans.

Interesting, but not illuminating.

Guess that's why it's a surprise......

Not sure about the uniform change, but I did hear that the new field turf would be gold.

lol, wouldnt that be something, Boise State with the blue turf, Notre Dame with the gold turf. I dont think I have ever even seen gold turf...

that would make things interesting though.

Uh, check out the pants on the manikin in the back. Yellow pants?!

I dont think those are pants they look like some form of compression shorts. plus theres no way they would show off the new unis to recruits... or they wouldnt be a surprise. AND theres no way we would ever do pants that yellow. my two cents

Those were probably an idea from last yr.

The players don't even know of the unis till the week of the UM/Miami games

google pics from the actual game and u will c

These still look very gold compared to the pic I posted. But I don't think this is the 'surprise' anymore as someone above said that even the players don't know until the week of the game. I'm all for continued speculation though haha.

In some of the old days, old timers claim the original pants were more of a mustard color, before gold could be simulated. The uniform that Faust famously referred to was a Madonna blue jersey with a pair of mustard pants and leather helmet. If we go throwback to leather helmets that's too far; I want to see the shredder on the d-line!

Those are definitely the UTL pants from last year's Michigan game.

It's supposed to be "Old Gold" like the team wore prior to 1986 and which has more yellow in the hue than gold.

It's looks more bright and yellowish in that Twitter pic because there is a florescent light shining on it from 6 feet away. Lighting always matters!

My favorite part about this thread was it made me tell my dad to "expect some wild uniforms tonight" the day of the U$C game, acting like I had some JFK-type top secret info.

He called me afterwards and said, "I guess those helmets were a little shinier, but the uniforms looked the same, what was so wild about them?" "Uhhhhhh....." CLICK.........DIAL TONE........CRICKETS..........
