see this is again why you don't listen to a word they say!! just yesterday saying “Maybe I’ll narrow it down to three or five teams, but I don’t know yet.” and then today will decide next Friday, March 9.......NOT saying just w/ him because this is not a personal statement but a general recruiting principle...this is 1 THING that i have learned since following recruiting a few years back but somehow i always think when i hear a big blue chipper talking positively about ND i get let down!

Adam Breneman ‏ @AdamBreneman87

I am now ready to make my decision. I will be announcing my commitment on March 9th at 7 pm in the Cedar Cliff HS gym. Open to the public...

Hmmmm ..... he schedules it for 7 pm in the high school gym on a Friday night and it's open to the public right after PSU gets a top QB commit ..... You add all those things together and I think it tells you his decision. I'm guessing that gym will be packed out.

In some ways I wish he would've waited till after his planned visit to ND and given us another chance to impress. On the other hand, I don't think it would've mattered if he waited or not. The one benefit of him not visiting is that the staff can spend more time with other recruits that are more likely to choose ND

#1 Rule I follow is pay attention to what they do, not what they say. Only way you can keep from being truly burned.

Yeah once I saw he booked his commitment date next week that threw all hope away of him not being the HUGE prospect. Damn. Well we need a TE this year so full steam ahead for Heuerman.

Wasn't last years strategy of not taking a TE a 100% promissory note to Adam that ND wanted him that bad?? Honest question.

He also tweeted, "I visited every school that I have sincere interest in." Ouch. He hasn't visited ND, has he? Thought he was coming for the first time on the 3/24 Junior Day but maybe he's been here before? If not I feel foolish. Definitely thought he had "sincere interest" in ND.

He's visited at least once. For some reason, I was thinking he had already visited twice.

Edit:
He visited once last summer and then came back again for the USC game

Gonna be tough considering OSU will be doing the exact same thing.

i remember hearing this...although i believe it was formulated on IE as talk which ended up as being tossed around as truth

Hope he comes out to South Bend but if not best of luck to him.

The allure of home, your dream school, and a new HC who just left Gronk and Hernandez is understandable.

Agreed. Hard to pass it up, can't be mad at the kid for that. He gone.

Man, starting to think the worst thing this site did was start the whole 'italics means sarcasm' thing here. Holy crap, every recruits thread has about 5 of those damn things per page.

I don't know what's worse - the tired 'he gone' or the increasingly tired italics/sarcasm thing about ND recruits.

As for this stud TE, PSU has always been his favorite, and once they hired a TE friendly coach, we were at best in 2nd place. Throw in Urban Liar, and we're probably running third.

Another good reminder on why recruiting is merely 'meh' for me this year until September, when we start winning games. Until then, we'll lose many more recruits than we'll win. No reason IMO to get worked up about it since we know it's going to happen...

Ill take Ishaq, Jarron Jones, Deion Walker and Ben Koyack they can have Brenneman. He was always going there guys once O'Brien was hired. Kids a stud and O'Brien has been preaching the Gronk role the whole time. What kid wouldn't wanna be told that? Hopefully he can dance a little bit better. ND always produces great TE's. Its not like we don't have any talent at the TE position. We are still in it for Hauerman and Henry. ND went all out for this kid and he just wanted to go with his childhood favorite. Once again staff worked there butt's off but kid went int different directions. Once we start winning games we will win more of these recruiting battles.

Not gonna win them all. Many fish in the sea. Still 11 months until signing day. And it makes complete and utter sense that this kid goes to Penn State. Good for him for knowing what he wants and picking a good school (and if he for some reason changes his mind, I'm sure we'll take his calls).
On to the next one.

will be interesting to see how solid his commitment will be, PSU are gonna get creamed on the field in 2012. McGloin/Bolden is like a MAC team level of QB. You know well if they dont perform well the fanbase will have the knives out for O'Brien and he'll scuttle back to the NFL any chance he gets.

I know the general sentiment is that he SHOULD go to PSU because he grew up a Lion fan, but how many times have we heard recently about "lifelong" and "childhood" fans of ND signing, leaning, verballing elsewhere? Eff this noise - staff needs to (and I'm sure they will) stay on this kid like white on rice and make sure, at the very least, come NSD he at least has to think long and hard about this decision.

I agree with some of what you said. But we gave up a very good TE in McNamara fr some one we had a less then 50% chance of signing. IMO

listening to my local sports radio show...they had the psu qb coach on who i didn't even realize but he lived 20mins from me and coached hs football at a local hs for 1 year..anyways..they were talking about recruiting and how they have been getting some commitments and they talked about getting a verbal from a top tier qb and how that effects everything...radio host then goes on to say sure does help, i know a kid in the cedar cliff area that is expected to make his decision...coach then says something to the effect of how those are two big pieces psu needed this year..then tries to clarify that he can't talk specific recruits but alluded accidently that breneman is verballing to psu...i know it isn't a shocker but just reporting

Once the trial starts and their season begins, will definitely be interesting to see the type of class they can hold together.

Usually a new coach can hold a class together pretty good even with a bad season, since there is a perception of excitement having new blood in the program and they haven't had time to develop and implement, blah blah blah.

All that said, unless something even worse comes out about the program which would result in sever sanctions, I'm guessing they will probably hold on to almost all of their recruits

This statement makes no sense.

Don't hold your breath that a trial of a coach who hadn't been coaching at PSU for almost a decade and a half is going to hurt their recruiting----is what I think he was getting at.
