Sounds like he could commit this weekend or soon after.

I don't see it, not at TE at least, the speed and quickness from what I've seen isn't anywhere near the level of what ND currently has at TE.

From the very short highlight video you've seen? I don't know his 40 time, but according to 247, which has him listed as the #6 TE, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Michigan have offered. That's good enough for me.

I also don't know if he's purely a TE recruit... I think he could be considered "big skill" or whatever the term is.

You are correct. He is a big skill player who could easily grow into a Tackle or a Defensive End.

It will be interesting to see if they take a verbal from him at this point.

Dont see his offer commit able.

TJ34 on Rivals intimated the other day that Matuska could well be our next commit, which strongly suggests to me that his offer is commitable (or will be when he shows up on campus this weekend).

Didnt see that. I dont think he ends up at TE though. Dont see the speed. Now if he is being recruited for the O line or DE position i can see it. I just dont see the speed for TE. TJ knows a hell of a lot more than i do so ill take your word for it. Thanks for the info.

I hope he is a TE that will come in only to block ( the kid has gotta know he can't catch as well as our TEs and other prospects) and motion into backfield to block( a fullback) . We can run the ball even better if we had one more big blocker instead of one more lean blocker

TJ said he could either play OLB or TE.

I don't think ND will be recruiting too many "blocking" TE's.

Yeah but u need either one blocking TE or one fullback. wonder we had redzone problems last year? No confidence in just pounding it in

I am seeing OLB with him. Though, I dont want his commitment to scare away Adam or Mike...

If he is good enough for Oklahoma to offer him, then he can definitely play at ND.

On Power Hour, they also said he could commit, so it most definitely sounds like his offer is commitable...

With all these people claiming he's too slow to play TE at 245 based upon a video of his junior highlights, just how is he supposed to be fast enough as an OLB to cover a TE?

Not picking on you Terry, there's a bunch of people in this thread being quite definitive in their judgements based upon very limited info.

He looked "fast" enough on those fade or timing routes in the end zone. Didn't look bad running all the way across the end zone either. Then there was that 50 or 60 yd TD pass play. He ran a long way AFTER the catch.

We agree. No harm.

Everyone is a recruiting expert now, didn't you know that?

Sorry to let facts get in the way but ND had 20 Rushing TDs, 12 Passing TDs, and 5 FGs in the Red Zone last season. Considering Floyd and Eifert those numbers should have been turned around. ND and Navy (with that vaunted Rushing Attack) were tied with 37 Red Zone scores in 48 chances. BTW, Navy had 2 more FGs than ND had.

IF ND had converted 7 more chances into points by rushing, throwing, or kicking they would have been 9th in the nation (right behind Pittsburgh who had 1 more Rushing TD than ND but kicked 8 more FGs than ND) instead of tied with Navy at 88th. ND would have edged out tOSU (only 15 Rushing TDs but 5 more FGs than ND).

IF ND had only converted 3 more chances they'd be tied with Boise St and Kellen Moore (BSU had 20 TDs just like ND but also kicked more FGs than ND).

Keep in mind all those teams mentioned had softer schedules than ND's.

NOW, remind me how many Red Zone TURNOVERS ND had last season.

Yeah, let's use a scholarship to bring in a Red Zone Blocking Specialist be it a FB, TE, HBack or whatever you want to call him so he can play in 3.69 plays per game (ND's '11 Red Zone Chances).

I still have nightmares of being at the big house last year and watching scUM repeatedly stop us on 3rd and 4th down with a yard to go. Maybe don't use a schollie on a blocking TE/FB but we've got to do something - perhaps a jumbo package with Nix?

Also like him as a D-lineman.

And this is all before he visits. We will see how he feels after this weekend.

Do you have a link to the article? Frankly, I think they're wrong, but would love to know the context of "trail"

Wiltfong also said it was just what he heard and that even if true ND could make up the ground since Matuska grew up an ND fan.

Apparently we trail Michigan for his services. Per 247

+ 1. We can only hope that their luck runs out on the field this upcoming season and leads to a downturn in recruiting. But I have a feeling that even a lack of major success on the field like last year will deter many of these recruits. I hate Michigan.
