I normally wouldn't made a thread about the NBA if any and I mean ANY football was on. Since there isn't though, I thought I would see what others thought about Lin.

I am not a bandwagon fan for the Knicks, I will always be a Bulls fan. But when you see a story like Lin, it is rather unique. In my opinion.

He has started in 6 games and the Knicks have won those 6 games. He averages 27 points and almost 9 assist in those games. Tonight he hit a clutch 3 to win the game.

Should be an interesting story to follow throughout the rest of the season.

The man is smart. I am no basketball fan but he just seems to be guiding the team in the right direction. I def. will be a bandwaggoner for him. To see him call them back and then sit back and nail the 3 shows balls. Obviously he made it look like a different play but still.

Also, Mayweather is a bitch for his comments on twitter about this kid. Love this story and hope he does well for the next 10 years.

LOL i knew there would be a Lin-devoted thread within 10 minutes of the end of that game. I'm a very happy Knicks fan. To LINfinity and beyond!

I have been a huge Knicks fan since as far back as I can remember (early to mid-90's). I have never seen anything like this and it's amazing. PG is what the Knicks have been lacking which is why they went 8-15 to start the season, since Lin has been playing, 6-0. He is setting records along the way.

Sometimes words can't explain what you see. These is something that these 3* recruits can hold onto. Doesn't matter what people say about you, go out and do your thing with force.

ESPN is going to run farther with this than they did with Tebow. He'll be the lead on Sportscenter every night he plays and will always be the top story on ESPN.com

It's a money maker, way more then Tebow. Undrafted, American-Taiwanese out of Havard. Saved a coaches job, a team's season, and possible will be the reason Cablevision and Time Warner come to an agreement.

I believe he also caused the market cap of MSG to jump $28 million since he started. It's unbelieveable.

I am a lifetime Celtics fan so I can't say I am excited to see him do well with the Knicks because I don't want the Knicks to do well; but, it is amazing to see an unknown kid from harvard outshining all the big name drafties from the big basketball schools.

Jeremy Lin is a good player but all the hype is because he's Asian. Black players do what he does every night and don't get the same praise.

The truth is, he is getting a lot of air play because he is Asian. Not many Asians in the NBA, especially doing what he is doing. He might very well be in the midst of breaking down many barriers for Asian players. There was a time when college basketball, and in the pros, when it was all white players and Earl Lloyd became the first black player in the NBA. Look where the NBA is now, it takes one player to break the barriers.

Lin may be doing that. If not, it is still a great story to follow. Nothing wrong with that. This has more influence than Tebow because Tebow has been a star since high school. Lin has not.

Watched the whole game tonight. He was shakey in the first half with turnovers but his second half was stellar.

I have to give iman shumpert credit though. He completely shut down a red hot Calderon the second he was told to guard him

I disagree.

I think it's more about a virtually unknown player (regardless of race) coming literally out of NOWHERE (also nothing race related) and taking a way underperforming team and guiding them to a better record and helping the team "gel". (the third non race related point)

He could be green, purple, orange, or polka dotted. What this kid is doing right now is incredible

I disagree. While its a factor, he has zero scholarship offers out of high school and went undrafted out of Harvard. His parents were immigrants I am pretty sure. He's a genius. It's funny they compared him to Tyson chandler who got drafted out of high school and then Lin undrafted out of Harvard. Stark contrasts in education

And Floyd Mayweather

What Mayweather doesn't understand is that there isn't anybody doing what Lin is doing in the NBA right now. Sure, there are plenty of guys scoring 30+ points a night, he's right about that. But none of those guys are undrafted free agents from Harvard. None of them are playing for a team that looked on the brink of meltdown with their two best stars out. No one is doing what Lin is doing... no one...

Yeah I was going to write that too. I got side tracked though, sorry. I was going to start with the Asian part and lead into the undrafted, Harvard route. But again got sidetracked. Other players have went the route of being undrafted and performed well, without the publicity. For instance, Jose Calderon was undrafted and is pretty good. Not the point though.

I have a lot of respect for him and he is bringing a little more excitement to the NBA.

(Didn't mean to put so much emphasis on the race part but it does bring more spotlight to him. Which is not a bad thing because it is a fact the stereotype is that he can't play due to his look. He has over come that and he has over come being looked over by virtually everyone. His whole life)

Not only was he not recruited out of high school or drafted out of college, he was cut by two teams (Warriors and Rockets) and didn't play for the Knicks until half of the roster went down. Its truly incredible what he is doing. Its a definite victory for the "moxy" people, because even watching most of his minutes over the last few games, its easy to see why scouts overlooked him. I'm not sure how long he can keep this up, but sports fans should pay attention, enjoy it and never forget it. You may never see anything like this again.

Hate to say it but if his name were Jamal Jackson and he played his college ball at Cal this would not be as big of a story. I say that because I believe a similar thing happened about 2 or 3 years ago with the suns and a practice player named Sundiata Gaines (spelling?). He was a practice player that hit 2 game winning shots within the span of a week. This story made the top 10 but very little mention elsewhere. I just think Lin's race plays a huge role in his stardom. For the record I do think he's a pretty good player. Will be interesting to see what he's like when Melo comes back though because I doubt a basketball team can thrive with it's 3 key players hoisting up 20 shots per game each.

No what Michael Jordan has done in his career is incredible. A good 5 game stretch is not incredible. It boils down to a kid getting an opportunity and for the time being making the best of it.

You're right, but you're wrong. No one is comparing him to Michael Jordan. But what he has done in his first 5 games as a starter has literally never been done before. He has the most points EVER in his first 5 starts. And his team is 5-0 without their 2 best players for 4/5 games. That's incredible to me.

If he keeps it up I'll be impressed, especially when Melo comes back. Time will tell.

Thanks.

gk is exactly right. I never compared Lin to his airness.

My original post was in reference to someone claiming that this media frenzy is bigger for him because of his race.

Sundiata also played on scholarship for Georgia. Was much better built than Lin and wasn't ever asked to lead his team like Lin is currently. They are apples and oranges in my opinion.

If his name was Jamal Jackson and he played on scholarship at Cal, it wouldn't be as big of a story because it wouldn't be the same story. What people aren't getting, is there is a lot more things that Lin has overcome than being an asian in the nba.

I'm just happy for the kid. He's living a dream right now, and I hope it keeps on going for him. Seems like a genuine young man who is just doing his best. It is inspiring to see someone who was completely overlooked showing he can play the sport. Some people/media outlets may overhype it a bit, but it isn't hurting anyone. Let the kid play and keep on inspiring people.

Sorry but I hate when people say he is Asian. I get he is of Asian descent but the kid was born and raised in California, he's an American.

He has outscored everybody in the history of the game in regards to the first 5 starts. He is setting records, these other no names to triumph at times have not set records. All of the analysts are saying the kid can ball, not one has said he can't ball so he will last. He's not all of a sudden gonna suck.

When Melo returns, Lin's shots will definitely drop and is expected to but if he can keep a 15-18 ppg with 7-8 assists, that's what we need. Melo also has the most game winning shots since 2003.

Still, doing this in NY makes it even bigger. I'm loving this.
