Everybody knows ND offers 4 year scholarships, doesn't pull them, and does not accept JUCO transfers. But there is already a rumor about another substantial athlete that wants to transfer in. What is wrong with bringing in a little older, more mature kid, that knows what he wants, and is willing to commit to it; where the staff can see how he will physically develop? Maybe 2 or three a year? Does this counteract oversigning?

I would personally LOVE to see ND start allowing this. Some traditionalists are absolutely stupid. If a kid wants to be at ND,is willing to put in the work, and is smart enough to accomplish it, why wouldn't we want them?
Not only that....it will also help level the playing field as far as getting our team back to the top of the mountain.

There have been some rumblings on another player, but it's all speculation. Not Armond.

That is all I know doesn't sound like a 2012 or 2013 recruit to me. Just using it as an example, like a hypothetical.

Maybe someone with more "know" than me could answer this. If Anthony Barr's father is Tony Brooks, then why is his last name Barr?

Two or three other significant athletes have children with different last names. Maybe the kid wants to make it on his own?

His quote after committing to UCLA....."I will always be a ND fan."

What would Barr play for us though? Wasn't he like an H back at UCLA? Obviously we don't use fullbacks, and he doesn't fit our RB profile ... I guess he'd be a tight end for us? Or linebacker?

EDIT: I just remembered Martin's comments about using more two back sets ... maybe we do want a fullback?

he was good in HS but what has he done in college...something about not even getting playing time at ucla makes me wonder about effort/work ethic...but i am only speculating

True. People assume that he's gonna swoop in and be a difference maker because of his high school ratings....we may just get a disgruntled bench warmer.

I'm always intriged about how these guys are gonna play out...One man's trash isn't always another mans treasure, it could just be more trash.

I'd still like to have him I think. Although we have a quality over quantity thing going on at TE. It'd be nice to have another guy who can play there. Maybe a Robert Hughes type of runner out of the backfield as well? I won't hold any of his UCLA numbers against him seeing as how they haven't been a very good team since he's been there.

By 7 pm this evening 90% of this board will have convinced themselves that it is a done deal that Barr is transferring to ND.

LOL, TRUE. And the fact that it seems so likely based on the circumstances -- Barr's family history/interest out of HS plus the oversigning issue at UCLA -- is exactly what makes me doubt it. It's too perfect to be real.
