Georgia Tech is a typical GoodSchool/ BadFootballAcademic Atmosphere place. Sure you CAN get a good education there [could say that about any serious sized institution] but the football culture there doesn't really support it. It's only the rare handful of schools like Notre Dame that are genuinely student-non-negotiably-first that can claim anything "statistically" without their noses growing longer than the goalposts.

The AJC article notes that according to the GT coach the GT student body SAT is around 1400. I read a month or so ago that ND's average SAT (2 parts) is 1405. That was in a PR not a casual coach's comment.

I found it quite interesting that despite the frequent mention of this young man as a solid student, 3.25, never had a C, etc that there was no test score offered. If you're bragging outstanding student you don't gloss over the TEST score the school claims need to be better. The HS coach panders with having the Clearinghouse Sliding Chart before him but he again doesn't offer the test score. Reading between the lines coach is saying he has the mimimum test score to get into FSU, Bama, Auburn, or anybody else who doesn't give a damn.

I don't know if GT is filled up and Johnson is Sabaning this recruit the SEC way or if GT actually has an academic concern. Jeers to GT for not addressing an academic issue sooner than 2 weeks before NSD.

GT can't comment on the test score or directly on the recruit per NCAA rules. But neither the recruit, coach or anyone else in the AJC article notes his score. From decades of following recruiting, that omission usually means smoke. His score whatever it is may be high enough for ND but ND's Admissions is tougher than GT's in general. And he's left himself with no time before NSD to retake the test, IF NECESSARY, and get a result back.

I think that was the coaches whole point, that GT didn't let him know the score was too low so he could retake and also did not give him much time to find another place.

I bet they are just paranoid after what happened with Tuitt last year. They probably think of Kelly like the Honey Badger:

"Kelly don't give a s--t. He just takes what he wants."
