Assuming...is pointless.
Dude, the recruiting industry and everything it's built on is a shrine to assumptions. You either engage in it or you don't.
Assuming...is pointless.
I'm just amazed at how passionate you are to devote this many lines to letting all of us ND fans, to why the university won't be accepting Yuri's committment.
I'm dumbfounded.
You win.
Okay?
So who's next?
Not, so who's not next...
You've stated more in your first 11 posts than I have for most of the month.
I feel confident in ND's assessment of this student and if this incident is an isolated one, I think Yuri will take this life lesson & grow from it. Again, this is just my thinking, but if Yuri had a pattern of being verbally disrespectful, I would think it would have come to light before this post.
I think one of the things that people don't stop to think about when it comes to risking it on recruits is a corollary of the 40-year degree argument:
Recruits don't come to ND, spend 4 years behaving themselves, then go to the NFL and let loose. They're expected to graduate from our program and represent our school with pride for the next 40 years. That's part of the reason why the prudence of BK's decision to reinstate Floyd won't be known for another 10 years yet.
When we talk about taking Yuri Wright, we're not just hoping the kid can hold his mouth for the next four years. We expect someone who's going to not embarrass the university and what it stands for when he's a much more public figure in the NFL. ESPN and every other organization loves nothing more than to nail ND for perceived moral failures, hence the reason why they consistently identified Corwin Brown as former ND coach when they could have easily said former Michigan football star, or Patriots coach, etc. These are all considerations running through the heads of Jenkins, Swarbrick, and admissions.
Dude, this is seriously ridiculous...you're going to blast me like this for having an opinion? What's the point of a message board if not to be able to express differing views and argue with one another? If all the dialogue were one-sided it would defeat the purpose. Heck, if I wanted one-sided dialogue, I'd go to NDNation. A good portion of my posts was devoted to saying who I think is next: Standifer or Poole. One of those guys is going to take Wright's spot.

So you are confident that being at ND for four years, around the finest people on Earth, won't help this young man to see how to live a productive, successful life. I do not know Yuri, only what I have read, but from what I have read, his childhood has not been a model one. He has come up in a rough enviornment. He is a product of said environment, just as we all are. I am trying to remember, but wasn't Chris Zorich a recruit that was questionable because of his environment? He embraced ND and all that it offered and has done pretty well. Again, I may be wrong. He was at ND while I was busy being an immature twenty year old. If I am wrong, it ain't the first time I have had to admit it.

So who's next?
So who's next?
Well the news on Standifer is great, but seems like he has to finish an online Spanish class before being admitted.
"ay dios mios"
So, more than likely, he won't be ready until NSD.
In regards to who commits next? I'll go out on a limb and say Darby
Making assumptions about where a kid is going to go is one thing but how a university reacts to a kids who is kicked out of school is different. It doesn't make any of us appear to know whats going on and is hijacking a thread. So yes assumptions in this case are indeed pointless.
In fairness, no one on this forum had any problems dismissing the possibility of DGB on the grounds of academics. It seems far more the case that people are just holding out hope for Wright and that's why they don't want to speculate that the university won't take him. But in a thread dedicated to who's next, I'm trying to be a realist: I think we learn something from Standifer after he's home and has been interviewed. My sense is that he'll commit under the provision that he finish his coursework. I think that Poole may be a signing day surprise. And, in the more distant future, I think we nab Davonte Neal to seal off a tremendous class.
No, it's all good.
I thought you were trying to compare Floyd's DUI scenario with Yuri's recruitment.
2 different things entirely
NDinFL, I didn't want to leave you hangingso I went to 'Floyd is reinstated' thread to find out exactly what I was talking about.
Turns out, Floyd was reinstated right after SC announced Garcia was kicked off of the team for the 5th time!

I know you think it's coincidence, but I think it's just a good PR move. And back to my original point, I think ND will accept Yuri but we won't hear anything about it until this cools off or closer to NSD so there's bigger stories to report. If his scholarship was pulled from ND I think we'd know by now.
I wonder if kelly looks at this as a challenge to help mahe him a better person.
We follow ND recruiting much more closely than those guys. Do not read into those picks too much
