Pretty funny stuff

KALAMAZOO -- The Michigan State-Michigan rivalry was on full display for the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association today.

MSU coach Mark Dantonio and U-M wide receivers coach/recruiting coordinator Jeff Hecklinski apparently had different interpretations of their roles in a panel discussion about recruiting.

After brief remarks from Dantonio, Hecklinski was in the midst of a detailed presentation about the Wolverines' approach to recruiting and how important the state's high school coaches are to that effort when Dantonio interrupted.

"OK, here's what we're going to do," Dantonio said, cutting off Hecklinski, "we're going to get other people up here. We're going to talk about more than the University of Michigan."

Hecklinski stood in for head coach Brady Hoke, who was traveling back from Houston, where he was honored as a finalist for Bear Bryant coach of the year.

After Dantonio's interruption, Wayne State coach Paul Winters, Siena Heights coach Jim Lyall and former Alma coach Jim Cole were brought up to participate -- and Hecklinski's time was done.

Hecklinski chose not to dwell on the altercation, either.

“Look, I understand my place,” said Hecklinski, who thought he had a 15-minute window to speak about his program.

I have been "facilitator" on many "academic" panels in my life, and people screw up either their understanding of their time allotment or deliberately ignore it all the time. Trying to keep the big egos in line is sometimes impossible. I once resorted to making large drawings of things like STOP signs and cut-throats on near-poster-sized paper and went and sat in the front row to hold the things up. When they a$$holes wouldn't shut up I'd turn the signs around so the audience could see them. Enough laughter would finally get them to quit. Dantonio obviously likes a more abrupt approach.

I know several high school coaches in the state of Michigan who were there and they told me they and many other coaches who they were talking with have lost some respect for dantonio.

This is where the little brother designation we give them really is true. Whenever something isn't going their way or they don't like something that big brother does or says, they throw a hissy fit or cry.

Who knows why he did it. Maybe he checked their recruiting class rank on rivals and got mad.

It always cracks me up that you guys call them "little brother" despite the fact that they continue to kick your @ss year in and year out.

It's more directed at their attitude and the way they act. They win their first bowl game in over a decade, and then instead of talking about how they beat an SEC team. They whine and complain that Michigan got a BCS game (and won :))

Well Wolverine, you're an OK guy, but your homerism manifested here. When a panel speaker goes over his time limit it is he who is in the wrong and it's up to someone to shut him down. I have no dog in the UM/MSU race, but it looks like your boy was out of line this time. It takes the bigger man to admit that he or his boys screw up once in a while.

I guess its the eye of the beholder. I look at it as they went out and beat a better team, one that actually played in a championship game. So they backed up their thoughts with their actions. Just like they did when they played Michigan. Every time Michigan publicly uses the "lil brother" term, MSU goes out and beats the sh!t out of you. So as far as i'm concerned, keep saying it.

But congrats on beating one of Beamer's worst VT teams in a decade. At least you won, considering you got there with a worse record, lack of appearance in the championship game and head to head loss to MSU.

Can someone explain to me why I hate MSU more than everyone but U$C and scuM when we play them but for whatever reason I root for MSU against everyone else. It's not because it helps NDs SOS or anything. I can't explain it

I hope he keeps doing it because he's make an asshat out of himself in front of high school coaches. One of the coaches that I do know has a kid that has been offered by state and I know that he will be telling the young man about how dantonio acted.

I'm just glad Hecklinski didn't say anything back to him.

Now you sound like a typical state fan. It wasn't Michigan's fault that VT went for a fake punt in their own territory. It wasn't Michigan's fault that VT fumbled a kickoff. It wasn't Michigan's fault that VT made every field goal that night except the most important one.

Keep downgrading the win while I go enjoy wearing my Sugar Bowl Champions hat.

Okay. Keep relishing in your luck than actual accomplishment. That Sugar Bowl hat will always be tarnished because you and I both know that Michigan was really the third best team in the Big Ten behind Wisconsin and MSU. That's why they played for the B10 championship and you didn't. I respect MSU's as Leader's Division Champ more than I respect Michigan's Sugar Bowl Championship.

If luck means beating ohio, ND and winning BCS games every year. I could get used to this luck thing.

You guys don't go to BCS games every year. You just went this year, and you should relish in your victories this season, because I don't see you guys beating either us nor OSU next year. Next season will be all about your crash to reality, hombre.

The fact that you need luck to beat a MAC school says it all.

What in the hell are you talking about?

Michigan played two MAC schools this past season. Beat western 34-10, and eastern 31-3. How is that luck?

I've been hearing you say that for quite awhile now about the Michigan game. If anyone got a crash to reality, it has been ND with two straight years of BCS bowl hype and two straight years of 8-5.

Just like OMM said, if you run over your allotted time, you deserve to be called out.

Defend your scUM WR's coach if you want, but bottom line, he was in the wrong, and Dantonio called him on it.

Otherwise, STFU wolverine fan, take your tail back to mgopuke

Also, I don't recall any BCS hype for Kelly's first year. It would be dumb to expect him to sell his soul to the devil to be the luckiest team in football and play in a BCS bowl against the only team that deserved it less in his first year.
