Responding to a short exchange at the top of previous page---Re: next year. My discipline on keeping up with this as regards future flow has slipped behind Whiskey's in the last months, but I still have some, hopefully not lunatic, ideas.
A). I'm going to assume that we don't have a rash of transfers, and that our scholarship availability is around 16;
B). With only two O-Line this year [but five last] we still need serious O-Line addition. That to me means four --- even with the diminished scholarship pool. That would give Hiestand 3+5+2+4= 16 to work with, which is theoretical optimum. This leaves 12 offers only to go;
C). We passed on TE and Kelly always takes a QB. Two more scholarships, and we're down to 10 left.
D). I say Kelly takes two wides and passes on RB, but this is a highly debatable opinion. Kelly's offense thrives on receivers, and he will not starve himself there. We DO have a lot of potential RBs [of GREAT potential in fact] and he might just pass and go 8-offense, 8-defense.
E). 8 left for defense. where do they go? In a 3-4-4 the "statistics" would say: 2 D-Line, 3 LB, and 3 DB. I could see a strategy of getting the two D-Line and two of each other category, and then hard-fishing for the Best-Available-Studs regardless of defensive position. I might interject the unpleasant concept of Brindza NOT turning out to be able to handle both kicking chores, which has been the plan.
F). some energetic youngster might be able to inform us old tired and young lazy folks more about potential 2013 war room strategy by analyzing who Kelly has already offered &/or shown extra interest in. By looking at the relative numbers of offers in positions, it can possibly hint at war room leanings.
