Still confused on why a kid from California would even consider Auburn. After doing some research on Rivals I found out that Auburn has gotten three players from Cali since 02, but they were all Jucos. So since 2002 Auburn has received ZERO commitments from High School kids in California. Only Can meen one thing....

Arik's situation is kinda unique. He probably would never have decommitted from USC if not for his brother's mysterious medical issue. He'd be enrolled at Cal right now if not for Lupoi's bolting for UW. So right there, two top in-state programs whiffed due to freak circumstances.

Armond's inability to transfer within the Pac-12 is also holding off other strong regional programs like Stanford and Oregon. So Arik is looking nationally, where under normal circumstances he never leaves Pac-12.

Auburn was the defending national champions this season... but it was a terrible year for them. Malzahn's departure and a pathetically average season from Auburn should really have taken the shine off them.

I still have a hard time believing they're a major player here, but we'll see.

We all know about the coach moving to UW so with the reason above why do so many people now think Washington is a player?

I'm not trying to jump on you here, but you do realize that you're accusing the Armsteads of accepting payments right?

I know you put a J/K at the end, but it always kind of burns me when some people on this site throw around accusations because we dislike a school and it ends up implicating a kid and his family we're trying to recruit.

Doesn't make sense.

Seriously though, I don't mean the criticism as a personal attack.

Directed more at Auburn. We know how sketchy the SEC is and we all know the Cam Newton allegations last year. It was ment in a kinda joking tone.

Its just weird that Auburn literally never gets Cali players and now the #1 recruit in the country has them in his top 2.

The Armstead statement really did not even imply that the delay was due to incomplete information, or slow developments by others. They seemd to be perfectly clear that the delay was due to too much "stress",too much "drama", too much "pressure".

I think that ND is a very unlikely result at this point.

You may be right - who knows. I would just offer the counterpoint that had the statement indicated they were waiting for additional information, doing so would have led to additional speculation, which would lead to additional drama, which would lead to additional stress. Strategically, even if they are waiting for additional information, they wouldn't want to put that out there in their statement.

It pisses me off that they have a rule specifically and clearly stating that they cannot accept graduate transfers, but alas... no one in the sports world cares if Auburn and their SEC brethren cheat relentlessly.

SEC football is seriously destroying the college game.

...not being a wiseass...but trying to learn

who is "they"...Auburn or the entire SEC?

It's an SEC rule.

funny part of it is it's an SEC imposed rule and not an NCAA one.. so they (the SEC) can break it whenever they want to with no repercussions, but of course, no one is going to call them on it.. it's simply despicable though if they make this rule then the first chance (first public chance, at least) to uphold it, they sh*t the bed lol

That's cause for optimism. I'd imagine that ND's medical staff should be able to give a definitive opinion on Armond before the 24th. Auburn's SEC waiver may take longer, and Auburn observers have guessed there's a 50/50 shot of it being granted.

That makes it sound like Auburn is just in case he doesn't get passed by ND. I feel a little better now.

That's good news, frankly. If they feel less than certain about clearance from ND it would explain the (apparently) late timing of the SEC petition.

Forgive me if already asked and answered but I'm trying to.catch up on this thread. So does this make Armond a grad transfer is opposed to just entering a Grad program since he is continuing at USC, and if so how does that affect the situation?

That's a good point. A lot of people are assuming that Armond plans to petition the SEC, but maybe that is his backup plan in the case Notre Dame takes too long or cant clear him.

This thread is titilating.

If Armond is on campus by January 24, he should still count as a new grad student, regardless of what he does at USC over the next week. If this drags on past January 24, then I assume that Armond will simply enroll as a new graduate student in the fall.
