Yeah this coaching staff is an extreme disappointment to me. Completely swinging and missing down the stretch. the worst part!????? If Golson or Hendrix can't save the program. we will have ourselves a situation. We took one QB last Year being Golson. this year he completely struck out on Kiel, Mauk, Kelly etc.
This is probably going to be Brian Kelly's biggest downfall at ND

Out comes chicken little again. lol

If this whole flip thing is true though...damn, that was pretty fast Decker.

Does BK still have his in-home with Taylor? I assume BK has it with a lot of the recruits left.

You're going to get eaten alive.

I'll start.

Arahop. You can't genuinely think that the coaching staff has been a huge disappointment. Last year, we had one of the top classes in the country. This year, we have an extremely good class. Our coaches are covering needs with big time talent. Last year we needed Dline help and we picked up 2 5 star dlineman, Tuitt and Lynch, and a 5 star dline/olb hybrid, Ishaq. This year, we focused on DBs and we already have a 5 star corner enrolled, Tee Sheppard. Another one recently decomitted, but we reportedly lead for another top 10 corner.

We lost our biggest offensive threat in WR Michael Floyd. So what did we do? We went out and picked up one of the best WRs in this years class in Tay B. We also needed to help at RB and have three very good RBs coming in this year. Amir Carlisle is a perfect fit for the spread, speed and versatility. Russel is another very athletic and versatile commit. And Mahone is a bruiser between the tackles back.

This staff is not the "star chasers" we have had before. They know what they are doing. Weis had great classes, and I in no way mean to degrade the players he brought in, but he didnt recruit top to bottom. He had top flight talent. But there was a huge drop off after the Clausen's and Floyd's.

Kelly is bringing in great players, filling needs, and building depth. But if that isn't enough for you, keep waiting by the mailbox for your apology letter from Kelly and co. for your disapproval.

I know everyone wants to call Meyer the antichrist because of this (and other things), but Coach Warriner is the real scumbag here.

Why is he a scumbag? He was not even given a contract extension and Kelly chose Martin over him to be the OC. He is basically doing his job.

It's Warriner's job and he's doing it successfully. It sucks but this is how it works.

It won't be all bad news from here on out. Try and not let your scope on things get too magnified.

Step back and take a look at what our defense is going to look like next year.

Re-charge yourself on some of the positives and realize that in recruiting it's really every other year that's most important. This class is filling needs and has a few superstars.

2013 IMHO will be even more important in terms of having sophmore stars ready to contribute when the Tuitt/Lynch class are seniors.

Last year we had the luxury of the " we are on the rise, be apart of something great" pitch. this year we had the exact same record. We no longer have that luxury. Just keep telling yourself everything is ok. Oh who cares about Darby?? Oh who cares about Decker?? if that makes you feel better about losing out on key recruits that's great. Wish it worked for me.

When you win you most likely don't have to worry about recruits decommiting. Kelly has to be better going forward, 8-5 will not get it done.

The 'swing-&-miss; extreme disappointment poster' must either have biorhythms at all time lows, or some syndrome, like "Other Side of Pluto Imperspective". The post is at a distance from reality that I can't bring myself to neg-rep it.

Oh, and young Mr. Decker: although your decision is in some sad way understandable, it's really not the best choice you had from a whole variety of perspectives [lifetime value of degree; lifetime alumni network and support; smaller more human institution; better faculty; plenty of playing opportunity; better institutional values --- and there's nothing to hinder you from getting to the NFL, Coach Hiestand has proven that in abundance at Illinois].

Everybody here will love to welcome you back. Come here and learn from Zach Martin; he's better than anybody they've got.

Warriner was not "even" given an extension? Or he left because he was passed over for the OC job, before the extensions were done. Because I thought I remember the news that he wasn't coming back coming at the same time all the other assistant announcements were made. You make it sound like Kelly ran him out the door; I doubt that was the case.

Either way, he works for OSU now, and is just doing his job. Doesn't mean it doesn't suck for us. Can't really blame Decker, either, if - as has been reported - he grew up wanting to play for OSU and got a chance late to do so, and for coaches he'd already grown comfortable with at Notre Dame. The real problem here is that OSU never offered him a scholarship nine months ago so we could have pursued someone else.

Regardless, until it's official...

Sure they're losses, but let's not call either of them key recruits. OL depth is great at the moment. Darby could have done some great things with his speed, but we have several solid DBs left on the board.

OL:
Prestwood
Harrell
Stanley
Decker

DB:
Shepard
Wright
Standifer
Poole
Redmond

You really are hanging this class on Decker and Darby? While Darby has elite speed, he certainly isn't a can't miss prospect. As for Decker, ever hear of Jordan Prestwood, we are fine, not to mention Stanley and then Steve Elmer for next season.

Perkins was a LB with legit, 4.5 speed. That's LSU-type stuff right there. Him and Darby would have been stars, IMO.

Our O line is fine IMO. I still do not see Jarron Jones on offense. He will be putting some serious heat on some QB's in a few years

Personally it was the line about Golson or Hendrix "saving" us that rubbed me wrong.

Savior quarterbacks was the Charlie Weis model, but we had no depth and our defense blew. Kelly's going at it the other way, trying to assemble all the pieces and not hang it all on the QB. That, frankly, was how we won under Holtz, too (to be clear, Mirer was a top shelf QB, but Rice and MacDougal?) I'm willing to be patient.
Obviously, Kelly's approach to QB play so far has had some limitations, but I'd still rather have this class than add Gunner Kiel at the expense of, say, Day and Russell and Tee Shepard.

Enough to beat the USC's Michigan's, Oklahoma's of the world? or the Purdue's, Navy's, Wake forest's?
