Opinions:
1). This is a tremendous talent and we will sorely miss that athleticism and speed, both at corner and KO returning. All of us should at least acknowledge that much;

2). Ronald received a HUGE amount of "love" from this board, both for his skills and his personality. We should not forget how we thought about him, AND NEITHER SHOULD HE;

3). everything about him off the field has been indicative of a young person very high on life and spontaneously having fun --- but quite young --- nothing wrong with that other than older people expecting older thoughts and behaviors out of him;

4).he has led a bit of a charmed life. Lots of being "first". It's just vaguely possible that he came to the impression that Tee Shepard was going to be "first" CB here, and that stole some of the enthusiasm. That's really too bad if it did, as there is room on every football field for two great corners;

5). impressionable people can be manipulated, consciously or unconsciously, by environments with contrary "messaging" and no good present counter-balance --- alone at an AA game is unfortunately a perfect fouling ground for such a thing; I do not view such a happening as some conspiracy, but rather as a too-familiar resultant of a young man with a lot of counter-messaging peers;

6). while Ronald may be off now, he could well come back if his parents are truly supportive of Notre Dame and all we represent within and beyond football. The IE board should begin reestablishing sanity and civilized commentary, and get out of the way of a process that they can only affect negatively if at all;

7). should Ronald stay away, the Sun will rise not only on NSD, but on summer camp practices, and the Notre Dame football program will keep on in its progress towards a BCS game in the foreseeable future. We are not exactly devoid of talent in the defensive backfield, as we stand, and Lynch, Tuitt, Nix et al are going to make life a lot easier on anyone we put back there.

This never surprises anymore. Bums me out definitely but not surprising. Hypothetically speaking Take a 17 or 18 year old kid whose been told how great he is at his given position since he was in the 9th grade. Starts getting mail from just about every major college in the country. They all start telling him how great he is. How he's going to fit into the system. He has mom and dad aunts uncles brothers friends coaches telling him where he should go. Goes to a spring game. Red carpet gets rolled out. All the emotions of the day. This is what scares me about early commits. I would rather see a kid wait until nsd. If Darby goes else where I hope the best for him. But there is no doubt I would love to see the kid wearing Kelly Green next year.

I'm no where near as pissed as when we lost Lynch last year. We still have Poole, Neal, and Wright on the board who are all top 10 corners.

And Will Redomnd as a potential late cycle fill in. We're going to get a guy, and you're totally right it's nothing like Lynch last year.

Hope he sticks with ND in the end, but he has to do what he feels is in his best interest. Best of luck to him in his decision....

As long as Shepard sticks ND will be ok. The staff has put an emphasis on DB's this year so they will probably get another guy. Darby has been unsure for a while so this is not surprising.

You both are right and I was just about to add Redmond, but you beat me to it LAX. What made the Lynch situation worse was Alice joining IE and becoming friends with us. We still love you though Alice!

Diaco stands in front of his front hall mirror, in a fresh suit, combing his hair. "I'll be back tomorrow morning, honey. I have business to attend to." Front door slams. End scene.*

Man I really wish we had room for Redmond. I like how physical he is but he also is plenty fast.

If Darby doesn't come back I think ND should have room for him. I thought Redmond played really well in the Semper bowl.

We all know Diaco just happened to be staying at a hotel in the area and is in his living room with his parents right now. He has until midnight I do believe.

If the dead period starts January 9th, hopefully Diaco gets there by midnight.

Its definitely bad news that he decided to decommit but after the way the staff closed last year, this is definitely not over. Good luck to Darby wherever he goes!

Wow. Fairly new to this board. Witnessing my first recruit-flip freak-out. Nice.

Reading Sapp's piece, though, this doesn't sound that awful. He'd been restless, that's been clear for awhile, and then FSU got in his ear at an all-star game. But it's not like he's committed anywhere else. We're still in it. I doubt we'll give up.

Also, how many visits does he even have left? Some places are listing five new schools in contention, but he's already OV'd to ND, Auburn and Maryland (right?). So he's not going to visit LSU, Bama, USC and FSU in the next three weeks. That said, if we lose him, I at least hope it's to a comparable or better program (i.e. not Clemson).

Anyway, it was pretty obvious there was going to be a dogfight to keep this guy on board. Now it's official. Whatever he decides, he'll be fine. And so will Notre Dame. Just hope we're fine together.

Optimist to the rescue....

There are a myriad of differences between Kelly's staff and Weis' staff. One of the biggest things is how they go about recruiting. When Weis had a decommitment, they basically sat on their thumbs and didn't know what to do. Kelly's staff is the polar opposite, they do as well as anybody in these situations. They are college coaches and know how this recruiting war is won.

I will make no predictions, but until i hear that Darby is 100% done with Notre Dame, then I will have confidence in this staff.

Lynch and Tuitt both decommitted late in the game, and ended up signing with Notre Dame.

Prestwood even freaking signed with Florida State and saw the light in the spring.

And if yesterday taught you anything, it's that this staff's impact remains on your mind even after you've played against them as a member of their biggest rival.

This story isn't over, just sit back and watch. Praying would help too.

Go get him Diaco!

Oh well, I really felt this for awhile now. It makes me sick to my stomach. Just what I have been reading here and other sites it has been coming. And watching a couple of his interviews elsewhere each time he got less and less committed.

I just saw him as a possible starter as a CB and return man.

Good luck Ronald on where you go, wish it was here.

Absolutely Buster,

This staff doesn't and won't just sit by and let a potential 5 star player slip through their fingers

Deep breaths, we haven't even seen the finish line yet

While this does suck horribly, I'd rather him do it now than on signing day. This way we still have a chance at him. Good luck to him wherever he decides is best for him.

I think we will get Wright, Neal, Armsteads, and Fuller. While it does suck that we are losing a world-class athlete and an island, I think Wright can be potentially as good and if not better. Neal and Fuller are both freakish athletes and everybody knows about the Armsteads. As long as we keep everyone in the mix we'll be fine. You guys are underestimating Jackson, Brown, Wood, and Atkinson who all will be good next year.

This is what the coaches get paid the big bucks for and our coaches know what they are doing. Darby has not been playing anybody, he had obviously been increasingly unsure for some time and now is unsure enough to pull his verbal commitment. I don't think ND is out, at least not until I hear that he has signed an LOI somewhere else.

It also makes me quite happy and impressed that the staff has been going hard after other CBs (Wright in particular). This staff does not get caught with their pants down when it comes to recruiting.
