I like Mcnamara and think he would thrive here at ND, but Eifert stays he is sitting in the 4hole on the TE Depth Chart. I'm sure ND will be going all in on Breneman next year.

3 factors IMO

Decent depth if Eifert Returns
More Pressing needs with limited scholarships
Recruiting no tight end this year creates a better opportunity for the TE they really want next year Breneman

And I'll be in Puerto Rico for the Bowl Game. I'm sure the weather will be more favorable there. As far as Mr. McNamara goes, someone commented on just offering or more accurately, why we don't just go ahead and do so. Please realize that would mean we're carrying 5 TE's on scholarship if Eiffert is back.

I think McNamara has a lot to do with Adam Breannman. I think they promised Adam something that he will be the only TE recruited in the next two years. Hes number 1 on ND's board.

ND has already offered a 2013 TE not named Breannman.

Eifert's coming back for 2012 >>>> Commitment to ND by McNamara

Gives Welch and Koyack another year to prepare for the spotlight.

2013 ND won't skip a beat with the TE as those two will jump right into their roles.

Better chances to land Adam in the following cycle.

“@NDatRivals: Brian Kelly says that Jake Golic's back surgery is not career ending and he'll return to training in six weeks.”

And that about does it...

If Tyler Eiffert decides to go NFL, ND will be right back in the mix for this kid. The fact is we just do not have the numbers right now. We wil offer him immediately if Eiffert goes NFL.

Quote from Taylor with regards to ND: "They are out because (Tyler) Eifert and (Jake) Golic are both back. Great school great people. I loved it there."

So yeah... certainly seems like Eifert is staying (yay)... at least for now. No formal indication from him and I'm not sure when he gets his draft grades back.

Another classic example of "if we were Alabama" but I, for one, am glad we do things the right way.

IrishLax,
You are so correct in your Alabame statement. They treat their players like meat. They would just toss out the 4th string guy, which is Golic, to make room for McNamara. Glad ND has class and treats its players well and provides a true 4 year scholarship.

Yeah they offered Sam Grant from St. Eds near Cleveland but Arkansas just offered him too so it could be a backup plan.

Yeah, because Jake Golic coming back is much more important to the depth chart than Ben Koyack and Alex Welch.

Good luck to the kid - I liked him as well...

I feel as if he was just referring to why he wasn't getting an offer, no? With ND continuing to provide a scholarship to Golic, we don't have a scholarship to offer McNamara. Sounds as if that is what he was driving at.

I can agree that we are honoring a man within the program as opposed to "helping" him. Makes since for the ND way. I am OK if thats the case. Not like we are losing on K Marshall...

He would have been a fine addition to both school and team. Best wishes to him.

Good luck to him. He should have gotten an offer here -- I think the staff will regret that one.
