Where was this playcalling and execution earlier...Are you noticing a major shift in the Navy D Wabash...it doesn't seem to be different than the last two drives, perhaps even more aggressive.

I'll just call it like I see it.....right now at this point, ND is a mediocre program regardless of whose coaching. The defense needs more playmakers like Mant'i and Dayne needs another yr. Navy showing us how it's done right now. Embarrassing. I'll still pull for my Irish, but they're nowhere close to Top 20 level right now

They are not even top 100 today. This program lost 10 years today. The most pathetic display of football I may have ever seen in my lifetime. Even worse than the '07 year.

There is some good news. This game will be over well before 1230 leaving me plenty of time to do some chores and homework.

Navy's playing a lot of Cover 2, forcing the under route to be thown, killing clock. Earlier, they were mixing in a lot of Zone blitzes, Cover 3, some Man-Free press....

That veer excuse was also a load of BS. Navy's been running look all year.

Not sure why Kelly punts there.

The veer is actually a totally seperate play than what Notre Dame was expecting. They were expecting midline option, not veer option. Now granted Notre Dame never made a freaking stop anyway he was correct. The difference is all about the blocking scheme being different. Still no excuse as to why our defense looked like junior high

That might take some explaining on your part. Of course I would have to analyze film, which I'm not about to do, but DLine seemed to play vanilla, so it didn't matter the semantics. I saw no diff in the Navy O to justify Kelly saying he was "surprised by the veer."

I wanna be a Red Lobster Scholar Athlete. Those cheddar biscuits are the shizzle.

lol. You got that right. Last time I was there (5 years ago, because I spent all the rest of my disposable income on the country club) I got full on those delish lil puppies before the meal ever came out.

By the way, I'm pissed.

Mich St. used the same fake field goal to continue a drive and close the gap to 21-24. Haven't tuned back in. Don't care.

The midline option is a tight option. The fullback is running between the center and guard. The veer is run right up the guard's butt. SO while they do look the same to us viewers, it is different. Again I agree, out D looked horrible. No fire or intensity. But I do understand what Kelly was saying when they weren't expecting veer.
Problem is, this is Navy, they are smart coaches and players. They know what defenses are expecting, and change it just enough to mess them up. We of course helped them out a lot.

True veer is split backs with dive back aiming inside tackle. Navy did not do that. I call BS on Kelly's part. You better have more than that if you want to talk veer, trip O, etc. with me.

Just saying...

The game and new lingo may have passed me by a bit, but you can't BS me about any history and progress up to, well, a few years ago...

But p.m. me if you want to compare notes :)

Hey I am not trying to BS anyone. I know that the true veer started with split backs I also know that it did start with it being a wider option. But it has eveolved some, and my high school did run an inside veer with I formation. It was based off the read on the dtackle(d-end in 3-4) for the give. While the hole was the 4 or 3 hole (between tackle and guard) the give itself was tight off the guard's butt. It seemed to me that Navy ran that instead of a traditional midline between guard and tackle.

PS. New to this how do I PM here?

i am worried about the fallout for this loss...hope our recruits dont fade

recruits won't bail. they know they can step in and play immediately at certain positions. if there's a situation where one or two do jump ship then it is what it is. notre dame isn't for everyone. today was a reality check for this rebuilding process. welcome to notre dame football coach kelly. i am closely watching their response next week.
