He's a consensus 4:s: CB and all indications point to his being Irish the moment we offer. I agree with Beau on this; we may have other guys rated higher on our board, but it appears we don't have a >50% chance of landing any of them. I hope we don't slow play Rios and end up losing him.

I agree with concern over a slow play. But here is another concern I have. What if we extended the offer, he verballed and he then proceeded to fail his foreign language course? He would be verbally committed and thus making our chances for other CB's nearly zero, but we wouldn't be able to sign him. It is quite the Catch22.

I'd like to think our admissions office has a contingency plan for that, such as summer school.

I hear that. I'm just saying IMO from what I've seen on tape I'm not very high on him.

ND just left the house and he couldn't talk about anything really becuz of info being leaked...but told me great news...I'm not prying further to respect his privacy and also nd...but thought I could at least share that

I believe the first score reportings become available the 17th of this mont but that's at the earliest probably about a week after that or so Im guessing from experience.

I wonder if an offer that is "conditional" on his ACT score means he can commit now to hold his spot, or must he wait to do so until he gets the score, thus potentially allowing another CB (Wright, Poole, etc.) to fill up the spot in the meantime.

It's no Catch 22. Verbal commitments aren't binding only the LOI is. ND offers (and other school's) are explicit that the scholarship is contingent on meeting the academic requirements. Every year some kids decide to cruise through their senior year or second semester senior year and don't get into their chosen school. I don't recall it happening at ND (kudos to Admission's Screening Process). I do recall a few like Aldo De La Garza who wanted ND badly and kept pluggin their senior year but didn't make it academically. ND chose others on NSD. There were two in Holtz's '95 class that he tried to slide through Admissions at the 11th hour. Both were reported by the services on NSD as in ND's Class but neither had cleared ND Admissions and NEVER did.

Marcus Rios isn't the first prospect to be told add a course, take one over and improve a grade, or retake and improve a Test score. Carson Palmer chose not to and took the easy route to Southern Cal. WR David Terrell verballed to ND but balked at academic improvement and flipped to UM. More power to Rios if he takes the tougher route and succeeds. The choice is his. This is one of life's character building moments for prospects, coaches, and administrators.

i will get a little more today hopefully...when we talked following ND leaving his house, he talked as if he was to remain silent about any info due to other recruits etc...so i am shocked to see this was published as he told me he couldn't talk about it...so hopefully i can shed a little more light

yeah maybe if i was affiliated w/ isd, 247 etc it wouldn't matter, but this isn't my job..so i will let him sleep :)
