I still didn't comprehend how his daughter is staying in Florida with his wife...? I was only half listening. Could someone break it down for me how they are handling that? I felt so happy for him and his family when he was talking about how much better his daughter was doing at her new school and how she seemed so much more happy.
I don't know anything other that the presser. I assume they're trying to disrupt her life (routine, surrounding, familiar faces, etc.) as little as possible. I don't know if the family moved to KC when he took the KC job or if they stayed in South Bend.
They all made the move to FL. They live in the Reddick area, horse country, 30 minutes or so south of Gainsville. Maura, his wife likes horses. I assume they have a big place with support staff. Charlie mentioned something about Hannah "liking school". I too was half listening at that point. I would expect from a mom's viewpoint that Northern Florida winters are lot easier to deal with than K.C. winters (or summers). And as for living apart, the Wieses are accoustomed to it. She's be a "football widow" most if not all of her married life. And keep in mind they're not 20 somethings.
I don't know how he'll work out visiting the family with the hours he spent "in the office" in New England and in South Bend but I expect that's something he and the KU AD have discussed and are both comfortable with. I can see lots of recruiting trips based out of Northern FL.
He probably made good money in the NFL, did very well at ND. Made 800K at UF so the Weis family doesn't live on the budget constraints that most of us here do. In season, Charlie will be in Lawrence. Out of season, I'd expect him to spend a lot of long weekends home. I can't speak to the KU Alumni Association but I'd guess they're not as spread out as ND Clubs are, NOR as demanding. I've got to believe this was all covered in negotiations. Considering the number of coaches that get in trouble each year for extracurricular activities I can see a school being flexible with a verified "family" man (and who's the highest profile and wealthiest football coach they've ever had).
