Community service is another thing that is huge to ND on an application, whether transferring or applying for admission from high school.

what ive heard is that ND accepts 50% of people because of their great stats- like ivy type, incredible gpa and sat scores. the other 50% they accept are great "people," great essays, great extracurriculars i.e. community service, participation in school stuff, etc. best of luck guys. i would recommend not writing essays about ND football, I've heard that will almost automatically hurt your application. Just thought I'd offer that advice, from what I've heard. They want students, not football fans, if only it was the other way around haha

I think each part accounts for 50% of the application decision rather than accepting 50% because of each because ND prides itself on its well-rounded students. But you are right on about everything. For my admissions essay, I pretty much just wrote about ND Football and then replaced it with "The University of Notre Dame." It worked. :)

Yeah I have three essays I have to write for the Notre Dame supplement, and one of the topics is simply this: Take a risk. So I told them to take a risk on me haha. pretty risky on my part anyway.

I've actually been told by one of the admissions people that they accept 50% of students based on the kind of person they are. Albeit, they are still great students, but they probably wouldn't have gotten in if not for their extracurriculars. They actually turn down more validictorians than they accept.

Just be careful about referring to yourself as a "risk" to them. It might send a signal different than the one you're intending. You could turn it the other way: why leaving the comfort of home to go to school in bumble****, IN is a risk you are eager to take because you believe so strongly in the school's mission, core values, etc., etc. Just a thought.

It's a set up to see if you'll write an essay on playing Hendrix over Rees.

Hear what you're saying, thanks for the input. But I articulate it pretty well. I am not saying tht I am a risk, more just that I understand notre dame and even though my grades might not be notre dame, they are definitely not making a mistake in accepting me.

I think they would really enjoy one though with starting Hendrix over Rees. Hopefully they aren't team Rees

I almost want to submit a fake application in the name of NDNation member and write a 5 page rant about why they can't install a jumbotron or field turf and need to fire Kelly IMMEDIATELY. I am genuinely curious how many words of it they would read.

Good luck getting in. I was in your shoes last year, with ND being my dream school and wanting to do all I could my whole life to get there. When I got rejected (literally my only rejection), I was naturally crushed. I thought about my future and did the smart thing in going to the school I though would be best for my future (UF) and haven't looked back since. If you think HCC is the best for you, then go for it. But if you are choosing a school based on the amount of ND football games you can go to rather than your future, then you may want to rethink.

I though all up until my rejection and process ever that it was all about ND for me, but there are other great choices out there. Your Notre Dame fanhood will not change if you go to another school. It may be hard, but it's possible. I made it to one game up at ND (USC) and went to the game at Wake and haven't missed a whole game on TV while going to every UF football game.

Again, I stress to make the decision that will aid you the most in the future. If you have a chance at ND, then I know can you can get into schools way above HCC that will be better in the future for you.

Congrats man. I attended Holy Cross my freshman year. I had four or so friends from Holy Cross that did get accepted at Notre Dame. IT IS POSSIBLE!!! Just hit the books and make sure, as people said, your classes will transfer over. If you want to PM me I am pretty sure I know what classes you would need to take to transfer.

Holy Cross was a great experience to me. I got season tickets (Bad part was this was the 3-9 year.....), basketball games are amazing, I encourage you to go to hockey games as well. Get involved at Holy Cross. Join SGA, and maybe even try out for a sport. Also do be prepared for some criticism from ND and St. Mary's students, but don't worry about them. I made a lot of friends at ND in Sorin and Howard while I was at Holy Cross.

Best of luck!!!

The first time you apply to ND and receive a letter back (assuming it isnt an email), you need to go the Rudy bench by the river and open it.

Come to think of it, if I went to school out there, I would open and read all received mail on that bench. Credit Card offers, flyers, etc..

Yes whatever you do, don't write about football. Before I applied I was told by an admission staff member to write about why I want an ND degree over any other degree and what subjects (Math, Biology, Econ, etc) inspire or drive me.

Well Notre Dame denied me from admission yesterday. When I saw the small envelope instead of a big one, my heart dropped, but the journey is not over.

I look at is this way. Notre Dame is 57,000 dollars a year now. I will only have to pay that for 2 or 3 years so I will be in less debt than all my friends:smilewink

That's alright bro. We can join forces and tear it up in some intramural flag football at Holy Cross
