for the record, most of gunners WRs wouldnt even play at cathedral or any other 5a school, they are downright awful

I doubt that he would be listed as a 5* QB in the pundits minds if he wasn't pretty damn good, regardless of the 53% completion pct.

Different competition...

Well an argument could be made too that the competition is different from other elite QBs in the 2012 class. Indiana is far from a HS football hotbed. I digress, just commit already Gunner, we want ya, and need ya!

Will visit Vandy today and will fly down to LSU on Friday for their game against Arkansas. Both are unofficials.

Also will visit ND again (unscheduled) and possibly Arkansas.

It is rather peculiar that they are unofficials. He is coming back this evening from Vandy, not even staying the night, and will only be on at LSU for less than 24 hours (arriving Friday morning leaving Saturday morning).

Like I said before, any other visits he goes on are a bunch of yahyah. He is being very deliberate about his process this time around. There is a reason they are all unofficial.

Are his parents well off? Going on all these unofficial visits are not cheap. Why not take the free trip?

getting a lot done fast...arkansas visit is interesting.

big question is: who could we land if gunner commits to ND, meaning if he commits who out there takes notice and takes a harder look at ND and possibly signs with us bcuz we get gunner?

I would say it increases our chances of landing either Agholor or Neal and an elite O lineman.

People can poo-poo this comment all they want, but it's true. Our chances to get Keith Marshall raise exponentially if we land Gunner. Keith stalks Gunner worse than I do.

Gotta admit...following recruiting the last so many years...this is one of the oddest ways of going about it. Not that it is a bad thing at all. Most kids like all the pomp and circumstance of the official visit (wine-metaphorically speaking of course- and dine). Gunner seems to go in and must have certain items/questions he wants to explore and move on. All in all, seems very serious and business-like about it. I like it. Maybe part of it is due to his jumping in at IU so fast and now realizes this IS a 40 year decision and I want to be sure I get it right.

My take from him trying to get all of his visits in a short period of time means that he knows he needs to commit soon to where he is going. He knows other kids are wanting to know about his decision, and that they will be making their decisions soon (KM on the 3rd). Also, him wanting to EE makes a decision by mid-December almost a guarantee.

Golson is being redshirted for a reason. I think he is the future - starting with next year.

Staff wasn't even looking until Gunner's recruitment kind of landed in their lap.

Anyways, Gunner is looking all over. Doesn't seem like he's set on ND by any means.

If he goes elsewhere, it wouldn't be Kelly's fault either

The other way to look at this is that Gunner is just doing exactly what he's said he would do all along.

The first time through, everyone had him Oklahoma all the way because big time QBs don't chose IU and Stoops is the man.

This time through, everyone is assuming Irish, since we thought that IU revealed that he was intent on staying close to home, and the ND visit confirmed that he was looking Irish despite everyone's insisting that he had no interest the first go around.

Based on what Gunner's actually said, I think there is a good chance that he ends up Irish because he'll fit in well here. While LSU and Arkansas football teams are graveyards for the human mind, the SEC is big-time football. That didn't matter the first time around, but maybe that reality is what caused him to de-commit.

I don't really know if there is enough out there that anyone should be confident one way or the other.

Yep Golson, and the option is returning to South Bend.... I agree about Gunner he seems to be scramblin to find a school he likes.. It would be nice to land him, but don't see it happening..

Gunner will play eventually if he comes here, because all QBs play in Kelly's system, and he is very talented.

That said, Golson is the man, so while I would LOVE to have Gunner, I'm not sweating it.

I don't know about that. We offered Gunner early and our staff stayed on him even after he committed to IU. Even if BK is infatuated with Golson, his time at ND has certainly showed him what a lack of quality QB depth can do. I don't think that Gunner's recruitment "landed in their lap", they positioned themselves to be an option if/when he decommitted from IU. If they were looking into simply adding another quality guy to sit behind Golson, they would have let Mauk commit. But they sat tight instead, stayed on Gunner, and have put themselves in a position for him. It is pretty evident that BK is all in with Gunner. I would be surprised if he picked up a qb at all in this class if Gunner went elsewhere. We have a lot of great options for next years recruiting class, so if you ask me, BK is all in with Gunner.

No, we didn't stay on him while he was committed to IU. We moved on and started recruiting 2013. When he decommitted from IU, that presented an opportunity for the staff, and they moved in. Even now, I'm not sure how hard they're pushing for him. How is it evident that they're "all in with Gunner?" I haven't read anything different about his recruitment vs. anyone else's. We are assuming he's all in. And, we're assuming that the information regarding "Kelly handling his recruitment personally" is accurate. I don't think Kelly is doing much on the recruiting end at the moment at all. He lets his staff handle that for the most part.

I guess if you don't buy that Kelly is personally recruiting him, that's one thing and you'd know more about that than I, but if Kelly IS personally recruiting him then although it doesn't necessarily make us 'all in' for him but it does mean that Kelly really wants him.

Well that quote came from a poster, not a paid writer. So, I'll take it as message board fodder for now

I was told and even read somewhere that we indeed stayed in contact with Gunner. As did other teams. I will try to find it, but I remember Kiel mentioning contact from coaches in an interview following his decommitment. To answer your question of how do I know that "we are all in"?, what other QB is the staff recruiting? The answer is none. We are passing on QB's unless we get Gunner. That is the reason why we were focused on '13 QB's, it was because Gunner committed to IU. Now it is a Gunner or focus on '13 type of deal. If we were still pursuing other guys for this class, then I would question it, but we are not. Hence, we are all in for Gunner.

It has been posted on many boards and blogs that Kelly is personally recruiting Gunner. Eric Hansen (ie paid writer) also stated this in his chat as well.

As far as Kiel, now that he's in play, Brian Kelly is personally handling his recruitment.
