He will have some studs in front of him.
True, but if he redshirts Eifert will be gone after 2012...Welch and Koyack will be juniors after 2012...I mean I hope the kid won't mind sitting for two years or so.

Perhaps. But I'd probably take Winslow, Olsen, Shockey, Graham, and Bubba Franks in their prime over all the ND guys in their prime except Casper and Mark Bavaro.

I would, too.

Speaking of tight ends, Rudolph nabbed his first touchdown catch yesterday.

rodriguez will push him to notre dame. FO SHO

It should. The TE position doesn't exist in the Rich Rod system. If his biggest concern is our depth chart at TE then he should move along or stay in Arizona and block for 35 wide receiver screens per game. Come in and earn a spot.

yeah I was kind of making my point based on NFL success and excluding draft position and college success.. should have made that distinction

Fasano, Rudolph and Carlson are fine NFL tight ends, but none have accomplished what Shockey or Bubba Franks have accomplished, and furthermore maybe not even what Jimmy Graham has accomplished even though he's just come onto the scene this year, but he's exploded onto the scene

sorry for the confusion.. however, we have had excellent college tight ends who are always up for the Mackay these past 10 years

Seemed to really love his visit. It's a numbers game right now. If there's room - I think he'll be Irish

IDK...I think you can always use depth at TE. For instance look at this year: Ragone out for the year, Welch missed half the season & even Golic was out.

Got to offer first and see if BK wants a TE this class if we do than yes i agree. All depends on what Eifert does this year.

i apologize...i was always under the impression that he was offered, i must have been mis-informed...thought his rivals page showed an offer.

Btw I don't know if everyone saw but Golic may be done for good with a serious back injury. If Eifert leaves we would have just Welch and Koyack.

According to the most connected guy in the irish program that posts on message boards he has no officially been offered yet.

I know the majority of BK's decision on offering Taylor depends on Eifert, but I think if it gets late in the process and we haven't filled out our slots, he gets offered anyway. I believe he is Irish if they want him, hands down.

In my personal opinion, I say there's no way we don't offer him even if Eifert stays. Brenaman is not a lock to ND next year. Welch and Koyack are fairly unproven. I just don't see a reason not to offer McNamara.

Kelly is smart enough with the offense that he could change some formations and use 2 tight ends.

He's not a great fit for this system but he is a hell of a blocking tight end. I like the kid a lot, but he is not a spread TE.
